I Still Remember; Self Para
Gently shutting the car door, Joon walked on the stone path to an all-too-familiar spot, one he was long overdue to visit. He figured since he couldn’t sleep, he may as well stop by, while no one was around to notice him. The cemetery was empty and silent, just what he needed at that moment to ease his tired mind and heavy heart.
Taking his last few steps, he sighed heavily, clutching the bouquet of flowers he had brought with him. Dropping to his knees, he stared blankly at the stone in front of him, unsure of what to feel, even after so much time has passed. Gently, he laid the flowers on her grave, clearing his throat as he gazed at the ground in front of him.
“I’m sorry they’re not roses... they were fresh out... But! I got carnations! I thought they were just as pretty.. They’re blooming really nicely this time of year. I promise, next time I’ll bring roses.” he spoke softly. Though he knew he wasn’t directly talking to anyone, he liked to believe she was listening. That, and it helped him cope when he spoke while no person is listening.
“I haven’t forgotten you.. I could never forget... the best woman I ever had in my life. The one person who understood me, loved me, and taught me how to be better man. Despite our tough times, you stayed, and you fought for us. Sure, we both made mistakes, but we worked through them. I’m not perfect, neither were you.. and I loved you, regardless. I really miss you. I haven’t been with anyone since you were taken away from me. The loneliness is hard to bear sometimes. Instead of waking up with you by my side, I find myself sleepless in an empty bed. I miss when I’d wake up to your sleeping face, and just gently run my finger along the contours of your face, tucking stray hairs behind your ear and adjusting the covers so you could keep warm. I miss the laughter, and pillow talks, and all the things we looked forward to.. I miss the comfort and happiness... I miss.. sitting under the stars with you... Like right now. Except you were alive.. Ah.. you loved the stars. I remember the look in your beautiful eyes every time the stars were out.. the look of fascination, deep thought... appreciation in your eyes. I found it so beautiful, how much you loved the stars... I love them too. Though.. the brightest and most beautiful stars were the ones in your eyes..” he let out a weak chuckle at how corny he sounded,wiping the stray tears that he had no control over.
