“It’s bloody freezing! Aren’t you bloody freezing!?”
Really? Which one is your favorite?
“Honestly, I really dig the old Halloween movies. Michael Meyers is the man!”
“All out? We have that….” She pointed at the menu. “There. It’s even better than what you described.”
“Wait.. You serious? That’s a real thi-- ..I can’t believe that. ..I’ll take that, then!”
— Gail looked up when Jordan commented on himself being a zombie, her expression softening. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for Jordan, of that she was sure - but one thing she’d never been exceptional at handling were moments like these - in which one had to evaluate an emotional reaction. She was naturally a very emotional person, feeling strongly and with every part of her heart, but she was constantly being choked by the anxiety of what exactly others wanted to hear or see as a response. ❝ You’re not a zombie, Jordan, ❞ she said, nudging him lightly with her elbow. ❝ Though I wouldn’t enjoy your company any less if you were. ❞
“Well... Okay, so I’m not a zombie. But I do feel like one with the hours they have me keeping,” He yawned, leaning back in the chair and stretching. “Speakin’ of, why are you even here this late? What do they have you doing, now? And why can’t it wait till bloody morning?” You’d think an IT guy would be able to go home after dark. Nope. Someone wanted him late just in case there was an emergency break down or something. Ugh.
“I don’t watch classics unless they’re horror movies.”
“..Okay, forgiven. I do love me some classic horror.”
priyadugal:
“I can ask if you want me to, but I have to say that our pancakes are the best if you just want something for breakfast.”
"Pancakes! Perfect! I’ll have those, then. And you know what, why not some eggs? And hash browns! And bacon! I’ll go all out!”
Karin nodded in agreement for a moment before saying, “Yeah, I don’t think I’ve seen that movie.”
"It’s a classic, how have you not seen 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea???”
— Gail’s lips curled into a grin when Jordan finally spoke, and she shook her head. Jordan was always ready with something new to talk about - she rambled a lot and she rambled often, but most so with him. It was easy to do when you worked together so often and when you shared as many interests as they did. He was definitely the easiest person around here to talk to. ❝ Then all you need to know is that you can be confident that the zombie apocalypse won’t happen. But hypothetically, if it did, you’d probably want to go somewhere as cold as possible. And they won’t be able to move as quickly as some movies’ll want you to think. Even if they can’t feel physical stress, they’re walking on dead limbs - those won’t carry weight very well. ❞
Who in their right mind would want to live somewhere as cold as she was describing? No one sensible, that’s for sure. Although, it was a good plan... He’d have to store that idea for later. “I still think you should be prepared for it. I mean-- you never really know. It’s a good idea, though. More thought out than whatever I have. ..Hell, technically I’m a zombie. I came back from the dead once.”
— ❝ No, no, no, you don’t understand - it’s really quite simple. They’re biologically impossible. The whole concept is flawed. Not only does it work under the assumption that the body is functioning without the control of a functioning brain, but have you ever seen even a gangrenous limb? And you think they could actually function and have the ability to overpower a living person? Besides, they’d be stopped instantaneously in the cold, they’d absolutely fall apart in the heat. Not to mention the whole concept of the contagion itself is flawed. No. And don’t try to talk about the fungus and the ants, because ants are completely incomparable to human beings, they’re far too simple. All of this is to say that zombies are not possible, they can’t happen, and they won’t happen. ❞
Jordan knew she’d have something to say about the zombie apocalypse. What he didn’t know was how much. Honestly, he just wanted to watch her talk about something she was so passionate about. She really came alive, then and it was all Jordan could think about. And he knew there was no possible way zombies could be a thing in the real world. He just thought it was cool to talk about. Playing on his “lack” of knowledge on biology, Jordan blinked a few times and cleared his throat. “You, uh.. You lost me at concept.”
priyadugal:
“Good morning! Can I get you something?”
“Morning! Do you guys have cereal? I forgot to go to the store last night and I had extra time before work, so I figured might as well eat something at Grany’s....”
YOUR FAILING WORDS ONCE MOVED HEAVEN AND EARTH
— JORDAN GRAUDIN / 27 / IT FOR THE PD Jordan is portrayed by IAIN DE CAESTECKER and played by FLYNN.
BUT NOW THEY CAN’T MAKE ME BELIEVE
Jordan always said that when he grew up, it would be the age of the nerds. Geeks would be taking over the world and no one would be able to bully him anymore. Alas, he was right. The geeks have taken over. Being a geek is part of the norm, now. But every nerd has a story. This is Jordan’s.
Jordan Graudin used to be a good, Christian boy back in Scotland. He went every Sunday and Wednesday, for bible study. One of the more quiet and studious boys, he made his parents proud. It was all good and fun– he certainly didn’t know any better. It all changed when Jordan had a near death experience.
At the age of 17, Jordan was in a car crash, the other car hitting his side and putting him in critical condition. While in surgery, Jordan flatlined. The doctors did everything they could to bring him back for three minutes until they gave up. Right as they were to announce his death though, Jordan came back to life. No one knows how, all they know is he did the impossible. But doing the impossible comes with severe consequences.
Back in his hospital room, his parents came to visit him. They didn’t ask how he was doing, or even if anything hurt. All they asked about was Jesus. What did he say, what did he look like. What did the light look like. But that was the thing. Jordan saw no light. He saw no Jesus, no pearly white gates. He saw nothing. He felt cold. He was alone. And if that’s what was waiting for him on the other side, he didn’t quite care about the afterlife anymore. Finally, Jordan couldn’t take it anymore and told them that he saw nothing. And if they were more concerned about meeting Jesus than how he was doing right then and there, that maybe they should leave. His relationships with his parents and family has been strained ever since.
A year later, Jordan decided to get as far away as he could from Scotland and decided to study in the States, applying to the University of Colorado, Denver. There, he was to major in Biology. After his near death experience, he wanted to know everything about the human body. Though, Jordan would soon find out that Biology just wasn’t his thing, for what Jordan really loved was computers.
Two years into his Biology degree, he’d been working on coding a program that would help the school’s system with applications. It was just for fun, but the director of the computer science program caught wind of Jordan’s work and asked if he’d like to switch majors. Sure, it would be more work, but Jordan was the most cut out for the course. With slight reluctance, he switched majors and decided maybe it would be best for him.
The way Jordan zoomed through his classes was unlike any other student at the university. He graduated a year earlier than his peers, and he could have any job he wanted. But honestly, he didn’t want anything to do with computer science & engineering. All he wanted to do was play video games and get paid. He’d been doing it throughout his time at CU Denver, so why not do it professionally? He had friends doing it professionally.
And so he began to, moving to Aldyria three years ago and applying for a job as the police department’s IT guy. He’s been going by ShadyLemonade on Youtube and it’s rare that anyone in the town even talks to him about it, simply because no one watches him. And that’s okay. As long as they don’t talk to him about religion, either.
