Beatrice smiled apologetically. “Not enough sleep, I suppose. Seems I need at least three hours.”

“Christ on a bike, love, that’s a tiny dog and a half!” Daran laughed as he slowed to a jog. “Sorry, sorry, I shouldn’t be laughing, ‘sjust that he’s barely the size of C’mere’s head!”

“C’mere? That’s the dog’s name?” Josie chuckled watching her little dog roll around in the grass. “He’s small, but a terror.”

Bewildered at her reaction, Luke squinted. “No…you’re my cousin. Jesus. I saw you like a month ago. I’d have hoped you’d at least have recognised my face, let alone my voice.”

“I know who you are, Luke, but just because you’re my cousin doesn’t mean I won’t kick your arse. What are you being so defensive about, show me.”

Bea looked up, a confused expression on her face for a few moments. “Sorry, must have been muttering away again. Trying and failing at marking.”

“No worries, I just thought you’d said something to me and I was blanking you.” Josie smiled, putting down her drink. “How come you’re failing?”

“C’mere! Dog!” Daran chased after both his dogs, giant, reddish-yellow, hulking masses of fur, which were indeed named C’mere and Dog. It was walkie time, and they were running rampant through the park as he struggled in vain to rein them in, leashes flying behind him.

Josie laughed as Sammy ran up towards the bigger two without a care in the world, his body bouncing through the grass. “You’re dog’s are adorable.” She laughed, keeping an eye on her sausage dog.

As Luke heard Julia’s engagement ring drop out of his pocket he turned around quickly, to stop the person behind him grabbing it first. “Don’t touch that,” he yelled out, somewhat aggressively. “Sorry,” he then apologised before they could get offended.

Josie was snapped out of her daydream by someone yelling, stopping in her tracks she raised her eyebrow in surprise. “What are you...” She began, noticing him pick something up. “I’m not a thief.”

“I din’t jus’ catch you breakin’ into tha’ car, did I?”

“Don’t worry, it’s my car. Like the ditz I am, I left the keys in the ignition.”

“I have eaten too many pineapple slices and my mouth is on fire.”
