I'm wondering if you know, has anyone ever done something like an explanation or just a compilation list of intertextual references in Howl's Moving Castle? (as in, references to other literary works within the book) because I know there are such references, like what Howl sometimes quotes etc but I have only ever heard of a couple here and there, and it would be cool to read about all of them in one place somewhere...

Explicit references:

"Song" by John Donne (the curse)

Somewhat more ambiguous but you can make a convincing case:

The opening line follows Pride and Prejudice and its "truths universally acknowledged" that then get undermined in the novel

Jane Farrier as an Emma allusion (@toasterchan makes a convincing case for this)

Calcifer and Howl's deal is reminiscent of Faust and his deal with the devil

Sophie glares at Howl and he says "I think that turned me to stone" - Medusa?
