Explain to me the appeal of MistuMayo. I just don't get it. aahhh
There are many, nay, several reasons why MitsuMayo is my OTP. I’m no good at essays, so I’ll make use of the bullet points feature.
First of all, let’s talk about Edgeworth’s relationship with the ladymakes. It seems like all the women who know him either idolize him or demonize him, and most of them unsubtly want to get in his pants. Maya just treats him like a person. She admitted that he was hot, but she’s not desperate to suck his cock (pardon my vulgarity). She admires him when he deserves it, but she also doesn’t take any of his crap. Remember the end of 1-4 when she made him thank his defense team properly? She also doesn’t seem to be intimidated by him, which is always a plus for a relationship.
Neither Maya nor Miles seem interested in romance, so for some reason it makes sense in my mind that they should be paired together. Womp womp.
Admittedly, the two of them didn’t interact with each other a whole lot in the games. But I enjoyed every second they did. I like imagining interaction between them: I think that it’s a comedy goldmine.
Maya’s very existence challenges Miles’ core belief that supernatural phenomena is a sham.
They both love Steel Samurai.
I believe that, given their histories, they are able to understand each other. Think about it: they both had an evil “step parent” who was secretly plotting their downfall. They both had their destinies decided for them: Miles was groomed into becoming a prosecutor, and Maya is next in line to be Kurain Master. They both decided to embrace those destinies. They both put on a mask to appear strong to the world: Miles wears a mask of stoicism and Maya wears a mask of cheerfulness. I think that they both see through those masks (in fact, it’s canon that Miles does).
Even though I believe that Miles is primarily attracted to men (my headcanon is that he’s bi with an extremely low libido), I always enjoyed pairing flamboyant, stereotypically “gay acting” men with women (Frasier and Niles Crane are the inspiration for this. Also, for the record, I also enjoy shipping stereotypically “straight acting” men with dudes!). I don’t believe that Maya would freak out of she found out that her boyfriend was bi. In fact, I think it would turn her on, lol.

It really just boils down to preference. In every fandom I’ve been in, I’ve always paired cranky older men with energetic younger women. When I played the games, I saw subtext between Miles and Maya because I wanted to see it. I think that for something like Ace Attorney, where there is a ton of great interaction between a bunch of different characters, there is subtext to be found for just about every possible pairing. I think that if you played the games again looking for MitsuMayo, you would find it.
Last but not least, I believe that they have a mutual love for Phoenix. In my mind, either they BOTH get him or NEITHER of them do. In the latter scenario, I think that their mutual love for their friend would strengthen their bond.
