My Favorite Sanjay Korpal Quotes
Recently I've been working on the script all about Sanjay Korpal! I'm really proud of this section I'm working on regarding 'The Upper Hand'
Please know that this is only a small section of a much larger script and analysis of 'The Upper Hand' so some context may be lost as it may be in another section that isn't shown here
Why Sanjay Did Not "Fail" In His Negotiation With Vendetta (The Upper Hand)
So the biggest thing that was in my head was, what did Sanjay actually offer that caused him to anger Vendetta, leading to her demanding to speak to someone more competent?
Well, I decided to look back at the deal Domina and Vendetta made as a referenceâŠ.and I just ended up with more questions than answers.
âVaira has established herself as one of Vendetta's greatest resources, supplying her with funds, connections, and hard-light shielding for Vendettaâs stable of gladiators. In return, Vaira has negotiated for exclusive rights to redevelop any communities âaffectedâ in the aftermath of Vendettaâs plansâa surefire way to take Vishkar, and Vaira herself, to new heights.â
Funds, connections, and hard-light shielding. I'm pretty sure Sanjay could have done this. What did you offer that wasn't this? A stick of hard-light gum? For a while, I contemplated what Domina offered that was so unique to her that Sanjay couldn't have offer.
But then I realized that this was much more complicated than what I imagined. Weâve already established why Vendetta had a preconceived notion of Sanjay, given the bias she shows towards Domina, but we fail to establish what made Sanjayâ offer an insult. Letâs walk through the timeline.
After her talk with Maximilien, she contacted Sanjay, already formed an opinion on him, talked to him shortly before meeting him in person before demanding a change.
âIf Vishkar had any real intention of partnering with Vendetta, she insisted they send someone more competent to talk business.â
So what happened during the actual talk? It seems whatever happened, it left Vendetta feeling insulted and underestimated, like he didnât see her worth. Implying he merely offered her scraps.
Doesnât this seem strange? If Sanjay had real intentions of partnering with Vendetta, why offer her scraps? Did he not have access to shielding, funding, and connections? Why wouldnât Sanjay have access to this? But then I started looking closer into the words he used to describe her.
âdelicate conversations regarding the value of your partnership.â
The Value
Like he was still considering if Vendetta was even worth considering as a potential investment.
Sure, he was involved with initial talks, and even gave her a deal. But look at how else Sanjay described these negotiations.
âdelicate conversations.â
Itâs almost as if Sanjay was hesitating. I mean, Vendetta is the one saying this about Vishkar wanting to partner with her, but Sanjayâs saying something entirely different.
And if Vishkar truly wanted to partner with Vendetta, why would she need to blackmail Domina? Domina didnât even get a chance to âtalk businessâ before Vendetta pulled out the dirt.
The answer is clear
Vendetta wants this partnership much more than she claims Vishkar does.
Time and time again, Iâve shown evidence of Vendettaâs own shortcomings and offhanded comments; she has far beyond proven to be an unreliable narrator.
So whatâs my point? Well, The Upper Hand invited discourse about Domina and Sanjay, especially their titles as negotiators. Many people believe that, as a result of this negotiation, Domina is the superior negotiator for successfully acquiring this partnership.
But that's not how negotiations work. Itâs not a game of who can get the most allies. Itâs about making the smartest decisions for the company.
My theory is that, by making Vendetta the narrator for this story, we are on her side, and to her, the most preferable outcome is acquiring this alliance. So when Sanjay doesnât recruit her, many people believe he failed where Domina succeeded.
But look at this from Sanjayâs perspective. From the evidence I have provided here, there's nothing that says Sanjay couldnât have offered shielding, funding, and connections. So why didnât he?
And then it clicked.
It wasnât that Sanjay couldnât have offered this.
It was that he refused to.
I've shown evidence of his hesitancy, evidence that Vendetta is the one who's desperate for this deal. It all makes sense

NEW LIFEWEAVER AND SYMMETRA LORE BITS FROM "REBUILDING RUINS"
So I got my copy of Heroes Ascendant today and THERE WERE SO MANY GOOD LITTLE MOMENTS IN THIS STORY I MUST gush I MUST
So here are some new bits of Symmetra and Lifeweaver lore that we got! I bolded my personal favorite ones. đ
(spoilers!)
Oh this cowboyâŠ
I want Domina to have a uniquely different character and story compared to Sanjay so she'll be more compelling and interesting. Otherwise she flattens the world of Vishkar when she should provide an entirely new perspective on it
That's one reason why I'd like to see her take a different direction than just replace Sanjay. Another reason is thatâif she replaces Sanjayâno one would care
One potential issue I'm worried about regarding the current narrative is keeping Domina and Sanjay's relationships with Symmetra unique and distinct from one another
Currently, they both treat Symmetra very similarly, but there are a couple of distinct differences
I like to highlight this one in particular:
Domina seems to resent/not understand why Symmetra's work is so celebrated, which is consistent with her own insecurities surrounding her hard-light mastery (or rather, lack there of)
She recognizes that Symmetra is seen as a valuable asset but doesn't value her in the same way
Sanjay, on the other hand, IS the one doing that very thing
He calls Symmetra "Vishkar's best architect" and almost treats her like a trophyâlike her accomplishments reflect well on him
If it turns out Sanjay had any hand in training or supervising Symmetra, this would further substantiate this idea and would be an excellent way to reframe their relationship while being completely different from Domina
I also wish that we had some confirmation on whether or not Sanjay is an augmented architect who was later promoted out of the field as this will help separate the characters even further
I hope Domina interacting with Symmetra provides her with a new and interesting relationship dynamicâotherwise, Domina would just fill the same narrative role as Sanjay
I think it's really important to give Symmetra multiple different types of relationships within Vishkar to give us a better insight on how the company operates and isolates her
I just watched the video about the topic of Cassidy leaving OverWatch after a new interaction in game.
I don't mind this narratively, however, it makes me question, was Cassidy's morale truly one conversation away from him going back to his roots? It makes me question whether he wanted to join back in the first place or if he's simply looking for a sense of purpose. I know it hasn't just been plopped down in front of us and if anything you can argue that ever since echo was announced he was questioning his role. "They want me, but they need you" ironically after ANOTHER interaction with the DL Gang
I had hoped that Cass enjoyed the found family of overwatch, and thought they filled the hole DL left behind. Yes I kno Gabe gave him the initial influence. But I assumed he grew to like it in his own right. But I digress, watching the man u once looked up to become a literal shadow of his former self, right under your nose, leaving you to question any if everything he taught you, including yourself, would have the effect on him.
If you think about it, a lot of the veteran OverWatch members have had this similar storyline. Back on the Reinhardt got the recall " this is what he was born to do. He will come no matter what" Mercy questioned her purpose back in her short story as well. I even remember tracer's (one of them at least) short stories thinking OverWatch for giving her the opportunity and giving her life to it. Same thing with Sourjrn and Winston
Lol, looks like he might join that club with Gabe, Jack, and Amelie.
Speaking of Widowmaker, if Cassidy leaving and possibly genji going with him (the video that I was watching brought up the premise of genji staying in Japan to help Hanzo and kiriko) and possibly teaming up to find a reaper. How would it tie in Widow.
WHO could she run too. And/or WHO wud run to her. Could she go back to her family? Did Gerald have any family left to convere with? We know that since she does not have the supply of the drugs she will start remembering more of her memories. And I'm going to assume that she wants this. She could have easily just been another bullet for Vendetta to use but she left.
She's choosing a life without talon, a life without that security, and also denying her usage of the drugs means she possibly wants to remember where she came from. As though she's had the urge to or the want to. OverWatch being OverWatch, they will take every, if not all, the bad guys that have crossed them( besides Vendetta and doom) back with open arms. Lena's gonna be pissedđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł but I'd argue they would definitely take her back. Mercy's even has an interaction after widow eliminates her of Amelia possibly still being in there......
Wait a minute.
Never mind, that's a whole nother can of worms.
I'm rambling.
ANYWAY
Amelie will always continue to be a very fascinating character
But where will these old memories lead her is the question. I was going to say she could possibly go meet up with Anna but Anna's with OverWatch (for the time being at least) And I for one would love to see snipers just sniping.
P.S. I FORGOT CASS AND HANZO WERE IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER!!
MCHANZO UNITE!!!

Does Sanjay possess a gauntlet?
In OverWatch's most recent depiction of Sanjay, (Vengeance Comes), Sanjay is seen with two intact hands.
This is a contrast to his in-game spray which actually depicts him with a gauntletâAnd on his left hand! A significant detail considering that Satya is the only other Vishkar employee (that we have seen) with this trait
So what is more likely to be canon?
Personally I love the idea of Sanjay having a gauntlet and being an architect before he was promoted into a negotiator (probably abandoning his true passion) in order to climb higher within the ranks.
The creator of the spray (JaviDraws) actually did an interview where she implied that she got 'pointers' on the direction of these sprays. I really wonder if this involved the detail of whether or not Sanjay has a prosthesis.
I wish I could pull up a statement from the artist, for Vengeance Comes, Irene Koh, but I have nothing from them
What if it's canon that he isn't augmented?
Well, that leads us to an interesting question
Are gauntlets not mandatory?
I never really looked into it. I excused Domina since she's a neo baby. She went to another school entirely and was able to transfer, I do believe she was offered to augment her arms but refused it.
What about Sanjay? Let's assume he isn't augmented, what does this mean for the company?
1. Depending on your major, you may not need a gauntlet
This is honestly a very strange idea, And I don't think Satya has ever provided us with enough evidence that this is how the company operates. We don't really have any ideas that indicate that there are different majors.
But I suppose it doesn't sound too far fetched that Sanjay is someone who decided to focus on the art of negotiation, social engineering and liaison work first. It's honestly a theory I do not want to entertain
2. Sanjay transferred just like Domina (and is also a neo baby?)
Okay so if Domina can transfer, can Sanjay?
I can see why this can be unlikely, maybe Domina just has so much power that she is an exception however we actually have some evidence to back up this idea.
Satya implies that anyone can join Vishkar!
Meaning that there is a very likely chance that Sanjay could have gathered experience from a different school before joining Vishkar and as a result of his work, didn't have to augment himself. I could even see him having a high position in a different company before joining Vishkar.
It's just a little jarring considering his loyalty for the company runs so deep that I find it difficult that he wasn't indoctrinated from a young age
Which is why I actually think it might be likely that he joined Vishkar but just didn't have to augment himself due to his connections, maybe his parents?
I've always considered Sanjay to be someone from a privileged background, definitely not Domina levels of privilege, but certainly much better off than Satya
3. Satya's generation, specifically during the "orphan snatching" era of Vishkar had to be augmented. Sanjay was not part of this generation
Satya was part of a movement from Vishkar right after the Crisis, that involved taking hundreds if not thousands of orphans to enroll them into the system in order to replace those who were lost during the war
I have no idea if Sanjay is older or around the same age as Satya, if he was older then maybe he wasn't part of the generation that was forced to augment themselves. Either that or he wasn't an orphan and voluntarily joined the school. There is little to nothing back in this up since we don't know Sanjay's real age
4. My personal favorite theoryâcontinuity errors
There's actually a couple:
His name tag is seen in one drawing and then lost in the other and the bands on the sides of his uniform (around his shoulders) are sometimes missing. And he's missing his infamous hair spike!
I don't blame this artist whatsoeverâthose details are hell to get down! Plus he's just a background character there
I just really like the idea of him having one for my fan fictions lmao
But if he doesn't have one, I would really like to know why because the implications it has for Vishkar as a company are very fascinating
I was inspired by this post on Twitter
Cole looks so cute in the Vishkar uniformâI should keep drawing him like that
