Why do so many dancers stop dancing once they have a large following of subscribers? I know that they have busy lives and can't upload dance videos all the tine, but the ones I mean are those that upload many vlogs and hauls of outfits, but no dancing. The really good dancers just seem to fade away from dancing. It is a shame, as new dancers do not have anyone to look up to and learn from.
I was asked by Munirah to review her channel She is aspiring to be a singer and entertainer in Japan. It's a shame there is no music as I think that would make the cover absolutely wonderful. I love how you don't put on a high pitched "kawaii" voice. Also your Japanese is really good!! I have seen many aspiring Idols on youtube who can't speak Japanese very well (and to be honest I am one of them) I also watched your Viva Happy cover (http://youtu.be/VITjUpGWpg0) Yur dancing is very energetic and fun to watch and you look like you really enjoy dancing. However the camera is not the greatest quality and many of your moves become blurred. I personally think you need a decent camera to make high quality videos in order to show you're not just another J-Pop/anime lover dancing in their bedroom on Web cam. The space where you film (although not a favourite of mine) is decent enough. There is good lighting and enough room to move. Though you need to be careful with angles. Some of your other videos ended up cutting off either your head or feet. I would like to see how you manage dancing and singing at the same time, as that is very important for singers in Japan. Granted I am no singer. So if you wish for more detailed advice on what it is like being a singer in Japan I suggest you ask Aminyan. As she is currently in Japan and signed to an agency. I am sorry I can't give you very helpful advice. But I hope this review will help just a little.

I was asked to review superstarhollyann, and although I have been busy recently I have finally managed to get round to reviewing her channel. www.youtube.com/user/ superstarhollyann The first video I watched was her Secret Police dance cover. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEJ5Kt1a2h8 The atmosphere of the dance is enjoyable to watch, as it is clear a group of friends are having fun together. I always think this is a very important part of dance videos. If those involved are enjoying themselves it makes a much more happy video. I was glad to see such a cheerful atmosphere to this video. The Dancing could have done with more energy, but as it was filmed at a convention, I am unsure as to how active those involved had been previously. Perhaps they were getting tired and this is why there wasn't much energy. It is very clear that this video was filmed without a tripod, however the Dancing was kept as the main focus. Sometimes videos done without a tripod can wander if the person filming is distracted or they get tired of holding up a camera. I know it isn't possible for everyone to have a tripod with them at a convention, but I was impressed with the person filming here. They did a good job. Overall I think this was a very nice video, though I would have preferred an audio overlay so we can clearly hear the music. I then watched the Ai Kotoba Ⅱ video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82R7T5AhMZ8 The introduction was lovely. Simple but effective in my opinion. I loved the choices for outfits, though I would have preferred the Dancing to have been done outside as well. Also the Dancing part could have been positioned better, so then the viewers could see the entire body. We miss half the dance moves when we are unable to see below the knees. The lip synching of the video was very obvious, it would have been better to actually sing along and then just mute the video. It is clear when someone lip syncs as they don't form the words with their mouth the same way they would when actually singing. To me it looks unprofessional. The timing was also a little off so that looked somewhat odd. The singing however was great. It was a nice soft tone, and without the fake high pitched voice many people put on thinking it will make them sound cute. I really enjoy the singing and hope she will continue. I also watched the Sharing The World dance cover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvWPUZSf314 The lighting is great in this video. The sun is used to it's full potential and the camera is positioned in a way where we can clearly see the Dancing without parts being too bright. The positioning of the dancer in this video is a massive improvement over the last video. The energy levels seem to be higher as well which improved the video immensely. It was very enjoyable to watch. I feel that if you do wish to focus on your own choreography you will be very good at it, as long as you remember to keep the energy up and not to repeat the same move too much. (This is from personal experience and not what I saw in your videos) If you were to begin hosting Nico Nama keep an eye on your positioning when dancing. Make sure your entire body can be seen so the viewers don't miss half the dance moves. Also I suggest you show off your singing. You have a very lovely voice and I think your viewers will enjoy hearing it. I wish you luck with your hosting of Nico Nama.

What is lolcow?
Pretty much a gossip site where people talk about internet personas.
Most of the comments on there can be pretty harsh. Though some can be quite nice as well. Mostly harsh though.I only go on to see what they say about J-pop dancers. If they start talking about someone I haven't heard of I look them up to form my own opinions on their dancing.
Do you have any tips on how to make dance videos more interesting for the viewers?
It depends on what kind of viewer you want.
If you're not too bothered about the perverted viewers, then there will be no need to censor panty shots.However, this is not recommended by many dancers.
If you wish to appeal to other dancers, ensure your body is positioned clearly, so the audience can see each move (in other words, don't cut your feet or hands out of frame)
Make your moves clear, sharp and energetic. That way others can copy your moves if they wish to learn the dance themselves.

Even though her background changes, Penta stays within the frame perfectly. We can see both her moves and facial expressions clearly.
Other ways to make your video appealing is the thumbnail. Have an interesting thumbnail and people will be drawn to your video.
Some people add effects to their dance covers, however, this may not work in the way you want. I personally don't like effects on videos (Unless it's something simple at the beginning like the dance title). Other people may really like effects.

They believe either Mico, or one of the Otaku Owls owns this blog. That was amusing. I have never been in the Otaku Owls and find the name ridiculously pathetic. They say it was a joke name, but I personally believe it was a decision that backfired and therefore was labelled a joke so nobody would look upon them negatively. But it could have been worse. I am very surprised we haven't seen a group with Chibi, Kawaii or Senpai in the name.
Totally off topic here, but what is with the Idol Wannabe groups having "Project" in their names? I've seen about five or six now, with that as part of their name. Think of something more original.
Anyway, I do feel sorry for Mico, she has been given such negative comments because of my review. Mico, I'm sorry. I didn't want anyone to be accused of owning this blog, I simply did it for honest advice.
I suppose I am a bit of a coward really. Hiding behind the anonymity this blog gives me in order to tell my honest opinions of dancers. I simply did it so if someone didn't like what I said, they would hate this blog, rather than my own dancing. I am not popular, and I don't mind if I never become popular, I just don't want to receive negative comments about my dancing simply because someone doesn't like something I've said here.
Mico says she has a few ideas on who could own this blog. I would love to hear them. If you do read this Mico, and would like to message me, I would happily answer privately, to see if your suspicions are correct.
Who are your favorite jpop dancers xD
I am guessing by this you mean those that post their videos on youtube, and not Japanese Idols, as technically they are J-pop dancers.
One of my favourite Japanese dancers is 足太ぺんた I love watching her videos for her locations, outfits and energy. Plus I think she’s just adorable.
I also really love watching 紫音リア. I think she dances wonderfully. She is so graceful.
I have several favourite Non-Japanese dancers.
Surimuchan is one, even though she dances inside, she has lots of space and can put lots of energy into her moves.
I also really enjoy watching Miki Peach. She looks very tall in her videos, but she still has a lot of cheerful energy and fun (I have seen tall dancers look awkward).
Mico, simply because her smile is adorable, and Abbie, because she is just so cute.

Her latest video Love Timer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GMmDOOIVIE) is set in a wonderful location. I definitely prefer this over the living room dance covers. Then again, I just prefer outdoor shoots in general. I love how she managed to find a clock in a park to fit in with the song!
I'm not a fan of the pretending to hold a microphone thing that happens in dances. I can understand that it may be part of the dance but to me, it just looks kind of strange.
I love Mico's dress, it suits her so much, though I'm guessing with the censor that flashed up, she wasn't wearing shorts underneath. However, I do know that she had several problems when filming in this location, so I can't fault her for simply censoring. I should probably say I'm not a fan of censoring, not that I want to see panty shots! I just don't like the flashing up of images/boxes to cover up a dancer, when they could have easily worn shorts underneath and avoided the need for censoring.
I probably can't really explain that very well without still sounding like a pervert.
Anyway, her dancing was wonderful, the energy and smile made it look like she had a lot of fun while filming. I wonder how busy the park was, and whether she had to stop filming at any point due to interruptions. Whenever I film in public I can pretty much guarantee I will need to do multiple takes because of people walking passed.
I would personally have preferred her to hold the end pose a little longer, but I can understand that she probably just wanted to finish the filming as quickly as possible. Her smile at the end is adorable!
Although many of her dances are filmed inside, Mico never wears clothes that blend into the background. I love her style, and even though I personally would look ridiculous in it, Mico always manages to look both beautiful and cute. They have a childish feel to them, but they don't make her seem childish. I have no idea how to actually explain what I am trying to say here, so I shall just leave it as Mico is a beautiful person!
I fully recommend watching Mico's videos, not only for her dances, but the appearance of her dog Suki. I ended up having to watch Mico's Lamb cover twice. Once because of the dance, and once to watch the dog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8R7_s9MJjM&index=10
I have noticed a lot of the time, Mico seems to look off to the side when filming in her house. Perhaps she has the video playing so she can match the movements? I have seen many dancers do that, and I prefer them to keep the video playing next to the camera, simply to prevent them looking off to the side for most of the dance. I have found that if you place the video so it is playing just underneath the camera, it appears as though you are still looking at the camera while dancing, or at least, more than if the video is playing off to the side.
Either way I love Mico's dances, and her outfits are wonderful. I can't wait to see where she takes her dancing next.
It is now so normal for dancers to wear shorts under their skirts, it actually shocks me when I find a dancer who doesn't.
I have just been watching a dancer with over 9,000 subscribers. She does both J-Pop and K-pop dances in her room, but I noticed that most of her J-pop dances are done in a short skirt. And she doesn't wear shorts underneath.
Panty shots all over the place.
Is that the reason behind her 9,000 subscribers?
It saddens me when amazing J-Pop dancers venture into K-Pop and decide to no longer dance to Japanese songs.
I just feel as though they are giving up on the 'roots' of their dancing.
I don't mind if they want to do K-Pop, it's their choice, but when they give up on J-pop I feel sad.

I understand about the singing. I can't sing at all, and all the songs I wish to sing along to are full of notes I will never be able to hit. Keep practicing though! I'm sure with practice, you'll manage to find your vocal range, and then find songs that fit you better!

The first impression I got of Faith was by looking at her thumbnails for her videos. Many of them seem very busy and colourful, which can both be good and bad in my opinion. At first I think they look a little too busy, with the effects added they seem to lack a focal point for the video itself. However, when you remember she is dancing J-pop which is often cheerful music, the hyper looking thumbnails seem to work.
The lighting in her videos changes quite a bit (obviously due to what time of day it is when she films) but even the darkest of the lighting gives a clear shot of her. She seems to choose her outfits to contrast with the lighting, so if it's a rather dark video, she wears bright colours to be seen. This works very well in her favour. I have seen dancers who wear dark colours in a dark-lit video and they often blend in. The opposite is more often seen. White clothing with a white background. The dancers often blend into the background, and the entire video looks washed out. Faith manages to avoid this with the outfits she picks. Well done!
Watching her latest video, Melt (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vF8B0tcfM8) I am instantly loving the opening effect. I have no idea how she did this, but it works very well for captivating the audience. The dance does not start as soon as the music does, and instead of simply standing stationary, the effect gives movement and draws the attention of those watching.
I would normally complain about the large TV on one side of the video, and the drawers on the other. I personally am not a fan of videos filmed in bedrooms. However, with this particular video they seem to act as a frame, the angles created by the items seem to point to the centre of the video, and to where Faith is dancing. I'm not entirely sure if this was done on purpose, but it works really well, I'm actually quite surprised at how much affect these simple bedroom items have on the video.
I personally don't really like the appearance of the little Miku Chibi's throughout the dance, as I think it distracts from the actual dancing. But, if Faith likes them, and feels they work then who am I to tell her not to use them? It's her video, I have no control over it.
I'm not too sure the white top works in this video, and it seems to blend into the background. Though the red pants are a definite bonus. I'm also not very keen on the wall behind her. The posters make the background look a little too busy in my opinion, but then again, many of her viewers probably enjoy seeing if they recognise any of the posters. Each of my reviews will simply be a matter of opinion, so therefore if anyone disagrees with what I say they obviously are free to ignore it. I don't expect Faith to go and rip down all her posters just because one person on the internet doesn't like them.
Anyway, moving on to her Aitakatta dance cover (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtF-2vOOd94) Once again her clothes work brilliantly in standing out against the background, and even though the lighting seems too bright, you can see her dancing clearly. Her energy seems a little low in this dance, perhaps it's because the moves are quite simple compared to other AKB48 dances, or perhaps it's because there is only so much room in a bedroom. Faith seems quite cheerful throughout the dance though which is nice to see.
Watching her Be Myself cover (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFCnT8Xf0O0) I will honestly say I got slightly distracted by the calendar moving behind her, also the writing in the middle of the shot at the start is a little off putting, but that seems to be more on the older dances.
Her moves are clear and although I personally would have liked to see her arms a little straighter during the chorus, you can see she is definitely enjoying the dance. I feel that is a hugely important part of dancing. There is absolutely no point in doing a dance you don't enjoy. I feel that Faith had a lot of fun during this dance, and it's clear both in her movement and the smile on her face (And if it turns out she absolutely hated this dance, her acting was brilliant).
Faith has also done a few song covers. I'm personally not a fan of this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ368sbeQ4E The fact there is no music is very off putting for me, and her voice sounds rather strained, as though she was trying to match a singing style that she wasn't comfortable with.
I also watched her Atelier Rorona song cover. I am a huge fan of the game, and I think it's awesome she has attempted the song, however, I think the pitch is a little too high for her voice, and it doesn't sound quite right. (Then again, I would probably sound so much worse if I tried it so I definitely have to give Faith credit for having the guts to post her singing online.)
I think she did a lot better with her Sankarea Opening song cover (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAhW2qVcqdc) Though she still seemed to struggle with the high notes. Perhaps singing isn't her thing and she should stick to dancing. I personally think she does a lot better at dancing then singing.
In order to improve, I would suggest attempting to film somewhere that isn't the bedroom. That way she can put so much more energy into her dances and really bring them to life.
