Help Leylâ and Jessica Move!
Hello dear friends and kind-hearted strangers! We are a multiply disabled, autistic trans lesbian couple who have each survived lifelong abuse and complex trauma both inside and outside of our families. We have both been struggling to get to safety and stability for a very long time and have suddenly come across a way to make those things into reality. We recently found an extremely affordable little home and are very close to being able to move in. Moving to this place would mean Leylâ can finish her degree and that I can finally gain full independence from my abusers. This would be more of a home than either of us have ever known, and give us the ability to build a life together without relentless stress and crisis where we can finally breathe, heal, and grow. At this point we have everything we need to cover expenses and secure the lease except first month’s rent ($750), and various application fees that come to a total of about $900. Our move in date is August first. Due to the urgency of the situation and the slow processing speed of most crowdfunding sites we ask that you donate directly to my squarecash account at:

We are so extremely grateful for the loved ones and strangers who have made it possible for us both to make it this far. We don’t have much time at all to come up with this money so please please donate if you can, and if you can’t, please share this link as widely as possible along with the hashtag #TransCrowdFund. We are both so excited to finally know what it’s like to have a home and we are so grateful to all of you for all the support you have shown us along the way. Thank you all so much.
J. Skyler, a trans woman of color, writer, and speaker, has come up with a concise hashtag for signal boosting! Use #TransCrowdFund on both Twitter and tumblr to help boost visibility for your fundraisers or donation pages! I’m hoping to help set up a blog that would specifically reblog anyone using this hashtag, so please contact me or check the tag.
If you’re cis, and would like to help signal boost, please ask the trans person in question before using this hashtag.
I’m hoping to start a new trend and hashtag go viral to help out fellow transgender brothers, sisters and non-binary siblings, so any help in gettin...
Synopsis of the creation and purpose of #TransCrowdFund.
OVERVIEW Hello everyone. My financial situation has drastically changed. The employer I have been with for the past several years recently announced they would no longer be offering year-end bonuses. This comes as quite a devastating shock, as my year-end bonus (which has ranged between $1800.00...
In Case You Missed It: Cinema Journal's "IN FOCUS: Gender Identity and the Superhero" featuring "Trans Representations and Superhero Comics: A Conversation with Mey Rude, J. Skyler, and Rachel Stevens" is now available as a free PDF. Download now!
Activist J. Skyler discusses the ways the media can address misconceptions about trans identity and provide young people with a diverse range of stories.
In my online discussions of transgender representation in media, I’ve mentioned that I expect a degree of transphobia is every medium I read, watch or listen to. That’s simply how pervasive the problem is -- and it may take the form of a joke, an off-the-cuff remark, or a non-essential character created intentionally or unintentionally to perpetuate stereotypes about gender variance or utilizing gender variance to underline said character’s psychosis. It’s with a heavy heart I’m forced to discuss this long-standing media trope within the context of Batgirl, the one area of geek life I considered to be a safe-zone. Within the pages of Batgirl #37 we come across an impostor posing as Batgirl who ultimately plans to kill her in order to assume her identity. As you might imagine, my eyes nearly rolled into the back of my head, accompanied by an aggravated sigh, when the would-be murderer was revealed to be an individual assigned male at birth.
