Dale Bartholomew Cooper is transgender, not only is he transgender but Dale Cooper was his birth name. He just added the ‘Bartholomew’. He came out in 1961 and both of his parents were radically accepting. They wanted him to have a happy midcentury boyhood but it was difficult to provide, not because of his gender identity but because he was severely asthmatic and stalked by a manifestation of all of the evil in the world. Being transgender causes him little to no consternation. He is stealth but Albert does his medical evaluation every quarter so that is no obstacle. He occasionally forgets he is transgender.

from generation 5 on dealing with child sex abusers. thought it was really interesting; I feel like a lot of discussions about transformation justice treat any sign of leverage, sanctions, force etc being used in the process as a sign of unforgivable cruelty and a distraction from Protecting The Victim, but I feel like stuff like this is a good exploration of ways that abusers can be controlled and prevented from perpetuating more harm.

this feels especially important to me--I feel like a lot of abuse prevention discourse puts the onus way too much on making sure kids feel comfortable "just saying no." like a child who feels comfortable telling Grandma they don't want a hug is not going to be any more equipped to fight off an adult twice their size, or prevent that adult from physically intimidating them into silence.
