This week was very interesting when it came to our experiment. As we were told to draw three different faces, continued to ripe them up, put them together, and rip them up again and put them together, i know, myself was very hesitant. It was an interesting look at taking risks. I know for me, with making art, i am so hesitate to change this or try that, when i think i am close to a final project. I am so afraid to messing the whole thing up, something i spent time on, even if it was for 20 minutes, even if it’s a simple drawing we did in AED class. This idea of fear of taking a risk in art is what holds someone back. I remember last semester as i was in ceramics, i would always hear “ try it, it’s just clay”. But to me, it wasn’t just clay. It was something important to me, i worked hard on it and i didn’t want to rush into something stupid. But this fear of risk, this fear of trying something new is what truly holds you back. How do you expect yourself to discover incredible things, stand out and be different if you only rely on what is already know. In art you need to be able to trust yourself as an artist and rip that piece of paper, mix that color or make that new line. You need to be able to have confidence that you may create something incredible or you might fail miserably, but know that either way you are making a change. you are taking a new step into knowing yourself as an artists, and building upon your strengths.
This is something important to bring into the class room. Teach these children that you never get anywhere new without taking a risk. You should be proud of your work, but also be proud enough to say this is a little simple and i could try this or change that to make it better.
