I stopped watching Abbott Elementary <5 minutes into Season 4.

(I don’t know how to censor content if it’s a spoiler. Is there an option to do that the way there is on reddit? If someone knows pls comment :))

When Janine and Gregory said they were broken up at the start of Season 4, I turned the shit off. What’s the point of having all this romantic tension blossom between them throughout the show, have them kiss on the final episode (of TWO seasons), just to have the pair on weird terms when the next season starts 😐 We’re not given really any proper footage of the fallout to compensate for all of the buildup, mind you.

Bc i’m curious, i’ve looked what ppl are saying ab the show now. I guess they got back together agaiiiin and have broken up agaiiiin.

It doesn’t feel like a show about teachers facing the struggle of tryna provide for their students with the little they got.

I enjoyed this show for the first few seasons. I was thrown off when Janine went to work for the district, but I kept watching bc she was growing and trying something new.

I never got into The Office, or any mockumentary sitcom series for that matter, so perhaps constant character regression is the norm… But i still don’t like it 👎

verse one is Lena:

a little girl whose mother is gone, whose father is physically and emotionally absent half the time, who is left trying to make sense of a house that never felt like home.

verse two is Kara:

a girl who lost an entire planet, both of her parents, everyone she ever knew, and then spent years trying to be okay for everyone else’s sake.

and then the chorus becomes the thing they spend the entire show asking of each other.

not “save me.”

not “fix me.”

just:

don’t let go.

because that’s what they do.

over and over and over again.

Lena spends years asking, in every language except the literal one:

please do not leave.

please do not lie to me.

please choose me.

please stay.

and Kara spends years asking:

please trust me.

please see me.

please believe that I am trying.

please stay.

for all the discourse about them, one of the things that always struck me is that underneath everything else, both of them are just profoundly lonely people who are terrified of being abandoned.

they keep reaching for each other even when they’re hurt.

even when they’re angry.

even when they have every reason to walk away.

so every time that chorus comes around, all i hear is:

hold, hold on, hold onto me.

because neither of them is as steady as they pretend to be.

and for most of the show, the person they want holding on is each other.

Re-watching Supergirl(2016) and I forgot the absolute emotional whiplash Kara and Lena‘s friendship was putting me through . Like dammm just kiss and all your problems will be solved. Kara and Lena are so in love with each other it’s crazy. Lois and Clark’s relationship in this universe kinda falls flat compared to Lena and Kara’s “friendship”

Moral of the story yuri will fix everything

Lex doesn’t remember whose idea it was. Not exactly.

It starts with an off hand comment from Chloe. An observation on how Clark never gets drunk. This makes that all familiar little furrow set between her brows. Her face pinches in an almost painful look of concentration, as her blue eyes glow as she starts to try and solve the newest case of Clark’s weird.

“What if you can’t get drunk?” She asks.

The corners of her mouth pull down in a sort of pained frown. As if Clark’s supposed inability to feel the effects of alcohol hurt her heart.

“Which makes sense, I guess.” She waves her hand impassively. “Invulnerable to a bullet, so invulnerable to the slow and pleasurable poisoning of your choice of alcoholic beverage.”

Lex snorts. He’s currently preoccupied with flipping through one of Clark’s books. Interest piqued by the annotations and highlights. Because it wasn’t strictly for school, or rather, the year written on the inside cover meant Clark had read this book in class nearly four years prior. Yet it stayed at his desk at The Torch. Spine cracked, pages worn and full of notes and highlights from numerous writing utensils. A well loved novel.

Clark glares at Lex as if his snort had hurt his feelings. “Maybe I don’t wanna be drunk.”

“Because Clark Kent is too demure to get shitfaced with his friends? Or because you’re too scared to really let loose?” Chloe asks. All brazen delivery and genuine interest.
