Redesigning the front yard from scratch
Redesigning the front yard from scratch
When I decided a few weeks ago to redesign our front yard I had no idea what I was actually in for. As per usual I walked into a project which I have no experience in guns blazing. A week latter I realised what I had gotten myself into. I donât even own a lawnmowerâŠ. The lawn was over 3 feet high and there was clearly more weeds than actual grass. The flower beds had just become an extension ofâŠ

So proud of my raised garden bed I made using old wooden pallets that previous occupants had left behind. As I already had the wood all I needed was something to stop the 2 crates from separating and losing soil. I spoke to my friendly Home Hardware guy and he suggested the weed matt and the sail staples that I used to attach it to the pallets. I didnât even nail the pallets to each other as the weed cloth holds them together.
The great thing about the pallet garden bed is that as I renter I can move it and the other thing I love is that sowing seeds is so easy as the straight lines are already there for you to follow.
I ended up growing kale in it and was very impressed
 Measuring up the weed cloth
I used sail staples intsead of nails as much easier to hammer
half way done
finished

My new Wordpress blog. It;s going to feature all my gardening and craft projects
In my recent blog I showed a link to an awesome tutorial for upcycling a bowlÂ
I am really pleased with the results and I canât wait to try the rest of Decoartâs Dazzling metallics. I went with Shimmering Silver
This post is brought to you by Deco Art Inc. I received free products to try. As always, all opinions are my own! Ever find yourself browsing the thrift store and you come across something and thinkâŠâwell, this is kind of cute but needs an updateâ? To be honest, I havenât been to the thrift [...]
Iâm going to give this a go tonight but instead of using the Americana Maxx Gloss Paint Iâm going to try out my new Americana multi surface satin in Flamingo and Pink Cadillac. Iâll show you the result once finished :D
To this, itâs the perfect gift for a 5 years old girl. All I did was paint the edges of the plaque using Americana Decor Chalky Finish and glued paper (from Kaisercraft) while waiting for the glue to dry I painted a couple of layers on the letters, just adding white as I went for some depth. lastly I painted the birds and glued it all together
This year I decided to make my own Bonbons (Christmas crackers) I always have a huge stash of Christmas themed papers and canât use them for another 12 months. I used kaisercraft Holy Night 12x12 and trimmed them down to 30cm x 20cm then it was as simple as using double sided tape, string and left over wrapping paper for the crown
2 garden beds weeded with fresh compost mixed in, tomato, capsicum and eggplant seeds planted. Holding off on sowing the corn as we're meant to have rain over the next week. I'm a bit late getting it started but it should be fine
Gardening Calendar
I just have to reverse the seasons
Seeds: Roma (large pot) and Tiny Tim (hanging basket) tomatoes Seedlings: Eggplant I made the trellis myself. One bamboo and one using using an old frame with chicken wire
After school garden clubs, summer garden camps, school gardens, parent/child workshops, youth garden education training Youth Grow programs encourage the next generation of veggie eaters and growers to be healthy. Our programs improve nutrition and decrease the risk of food insecurity by teaching low income children lessons in where food comes from, the importance of âŠ
Awesome idea!!

And really, I could spend hours pottering away
I know the arguments both for and against using tires for veggies A) I'm not growing root veggies just capsicum which needs warm soil and B) While it is a fact that rubber tires do contain minute amounts of certain heavy metals, the compounds are tightly bonded within the actual rubber compound and do not leach into the soil. http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/sanders98.html
There's no way I'll win but it helps me stay motivated and on top of things
Half of my tomato trellis is completed using reclaimed materials. Took less than half an hour and much sturdier than a store bought one
