i am disgusted at the revelation of super soaker being ai-generated

i read most of it, encouraged by a friend who really loved it, though it got tiresome by the 20th-22nd and never finished it...

but admired how many people adored it, and the fan art was wonderful

I didn't really finish Super Soaker because personally it was not my cup of tea, but I feel like I just need to say one tiny little thing before moving on with my life...

I understand and I agree with everyone that somehow felt betrayed by the author. I also agree that AI should stay out of fandom spaces, we should be critical of it.

Having that said: I must urge you to be careful with your reactions. I'm not on X, only on Tumblr and on Tiktok, but I suppose the comments online have been increasingly heated throughout the day over all of these platforms. I've read some pretty extreme ones.

Even though Super Soaker (and some other fanfics I found) are very likely AI generated, there are still real people behind it. Claude AI is not posting that stuff on AO3 on its own. The real people behind it made a mistake, and I think we can criticize them without being mean. I worry we're turning this into a witch hunt, specially because these authors caught using AI are deep in the fandom environment, they're probably reading every single thing being said.

We must be critical, not harmful. Be careful, always 💛💙

Excuse my bluntness in this post, but genuinely, why are/were you all freaking out about the "Mike would've explored" thing?

Isn't this basically what "ambigous byler" has been about? That there was no actual rejection, and therefore byler was basically canon??

And hasn't Noah been a known byler for years?? Why are yall treating this like some huge revelation?

Surely, you guys realise that your own interpretations and opinions are just as valid and canon as some actor's take?

No disrespect to Noah, this post is not about him at all, I just think this situation showcases how some of you have become a little too hung up on the canon (and/or fanon), and are forgetting to think for yourselves. And more importantly - forgetting to value those thoughts.

This fandom has a severe case of herd mentality, but because everyone is pretty much on the same page/has come to the same conclusions independently, it doesn't feel like herd mentality.

But then something like this happens, and suddenly all of those conclusions go out the window, because now there's an "authority figure" agreeing with you, so the original conclusions/theories/headcanons don't matter anymore

This is what I've been thinking while liking all the 'mike would've explored' posts...

It IS a big deal but so are literally all byler crumbs we have gotten over the years and it doesn't change anything about my stance on the ship

Also just like the og post pointed out, Noah has expressed his love for byler a long time ago so it's not like his reaction is surprising in the slightest

But none of this diminishes the fact that it is nice to keep the burning fire that is the byler community by adding crumbs which serve the purpose wooden logs keeping the flames alive

People are starting to see just how robbed we were of genuine, beautiful queer romance by two leads in a story that wasn't LGBT-focused, and I don't think people get how important that is for normalization, integration, etc.

Think about movies where there's POC. To this day, there are still people who grumble and say that's the "token black person" or "diversity character". To this fucking day in 2026. And POC have been in film, open and unapologetically themselves, for a long ass time.

Gay people?

That's newer. And so we're still hated and seen as diversity at best and, at worst, "woke liberal pieces of shit". We get death threats. We are bullied. We are seen as lesser by many, many people.

If the Duffers hadn't queerbaited Noah, the cast, and the rest of us, we could've had a game changer for the LGBT community. We would've had that crucial integration that we almost never have. Because, yes, I hear you that we have popular shows like Heartstopper and Heated Rivalry, but those are mainly LGBT stories. They're LGBT centric. It's expected. And so the grumbling assholes can easily avoid it. Those shows don't help with integration for the bigots.

Stranger Things could've done that. It could've been that necessary point of, "See? Here are two powerful, incredible gay men in a loving, beautiful gay romance. And this show isn't even about being gay."

It shows the assholes that being gay isn't something to avoid. It's not something you can avoid. We are here and we are unapologetically proud of who we are.

But alas, all we got was Noah being baited by monstrous directors who wanted to bully, humiliate him, and give him literal panic attacks while filming in abusive conditions.

He deserved better.

We deserved better.

Happy joint birthday to byler !!

I hc that because their birthdays were so close in date that miwi used to have joint birthday parties on the 31st and Karen and Joyce would be hesitant at first but always helped them arrange everything, and Karen would buy some decorations while Joyce made the other part and the boys loved it each time (it was nearly always DND themed and their friends would come dressed as their characters and they would be dressed as paladin and cleric)

Byler later would go on to celebrate that day each year, because what is better than a birthday? - A joint birthday with the love of your life
