Let's Make This An Issue
Hello everyone, I’m Alli. Today I am going to be talking to all of you about something that is far too under-talked about; mental health. A lot of you may not care, understand, or may even be in denial that mental health is a problem that NEEDS to be addressed. I know more than half of us suffer from some type of mental unbalance or illness. Every mental illness is just as serious as the next one, just like physical illnesses. Mental health is essential when it comes to physical health and everyday life. I’m here to hopefully educate some of you on mental health. No I am not a professional, but coming from someone who has dealt with mental health issues for most of my life and still continues too, I have some insight. Mental illnesses can be just as debilitating as physical illnesses. Some believe that some illnesses are worse or more debilitating than others, I personally think they can all be debilitating. Schizophrenia is for some people a daily struggle. Paranoia and hallucinations are terrifying and can hinder someone’s life potentially. Depression, feeling not good enough and just overall unhappy can be debilitating and life threatening. Yes, depression and many other mental health illnesses can be potentially fatal. Post traumatic stress disorder isn’t just caused by war, yes it can be though. Just because someone didn’t go through the war doesn’t mean their PTSD isn’t as severe as the person who did. Self harm and eating disorders are not addressed enough as well. Eating disorders, substance abuse, not taking care of yourself are forms of self harm. Not all self harm is cutting. Anorexia Nervosa is not the only eating disorder that is hindering lives daily. Suicidal thoughts, attempts and suicide in general needs to be talked about more as well. We need to be the generation that shows this is more than an issue, this is life or death for some of us. There are way more mental illnesses that I didn’t mention that are just as important! Most people chalk mental health imbalances to just a “simple imbalance in brain chemistry,”. It’s way more than that. It could be event, events, surroundings, imbalances in brain chemistry and more. We are all humans and we all have worth and value. Your happiness and well-being are more important than school, money, popularity, etc. let this show that mental health is more than just a simple- fixable problem. It takes hard work. People who struggle with it daily are not crazy or insane. We are people and like everyone else. Mental illness is not a fashion statement, a trend, etc. it is a real struggle that impacts and even takes people’s lives daily. We need to start addressing it!! If any of you EVER need someone to talk too feel free ANYTIME to message me. I WiILL respond. Hope you all are having a great day.
You should’ve kept fighting for me, but you didn’t because it was easier for you to give up rather than try to be with me again.
Why wasn’t I worth fighting for? (via idktorn)
