Something that makes me cry a little at night
The mistranslations from japanese manga to english back in the early 2000s.
In the published English manga, they make mistakes like:
The Tinkle Shield instead of Twinkle Shield.
Not to mention the other unfortunate mistranslations:
Death Label instead of Death Rebel
Black Links instead of Black Lynx
It makes me cry a little because I think that's what happened when ikuto states his grade being a senior.
Schools systems around the world are different.
HOWEVER, most people don't know that in the Japanese school system, high school isn't compulsory (aka it isn't required by law to attend high school).
High school (upper secondary education) in Japan isn't free. Over half of the high schools are private and it wasn't until 2010 that public high schools stopped collecting tuition fees. Shugo Chara was published in 2007.
This means that Ikuto could've just been working at Easter with nepotism considering how the founding family of Easter was going to have Aruto be in the business. Considering how Hikaru was already working there.
For all we know, when Ikuto calls himself a senior, he might just mean that he's in his last year of required schooling (aka middle school). The term "senior" is a western term, rooted in Latin, used in England that transferred over to North America. I would not be surprised if the publishers in the early 2000s said:
"Our education system applies worldwide"
"I don't want to research or exaplain the Japanese school system"
"Our english kids should always aim for university not think they can drop out in high school!"
AKA Ikuto might just be 15!
And that explains a lot! Like:
By the looks of it, Ikuto still has to go to school. If Kazoumi really wanted to fuck up Ikuto's chances of inheriting Easter, preventing him from going to school and getting an education would be a way to go about it. But the villain has to legally send Ikuto to school. Knowing that high school is NOT compulsory in Japan indicates that Kazoumi could have done that and no one would be any wiser, but he can't because of legalities.
2. I think people can tell that Utau & Ikuto have similar uniforms, which indicates that they go to the same school. Like I know Seiyo academy has an elementary and middle school based on Jewel Joker, but even then the uniforms were extremely different as seen with Kukai's uniform and this snippet:
3. Even the Shugo Chara wiki states that Ikuto's age ranges from 15-17
Anyway (and going back to my original point), I think whoever was translating Shugo Chara at the time was SLOPPY.
I'll never get over TINKLE SHIELD.
