𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐘.
juniper was born and raised in a family of what the locals in her area called outcasts. the third in a line of five, juniper was raised in a lower-income neighborhood where her parents fought tooth and nail to put food on the table. and yet, there was never not a moment when she wasn't loved -- even if her parents were always at work. she often grew up going to her elder neighbor's house to eat a slice of peach pie, or to visit any of her little friends on the block, as her elder brother's called them.
june had a distant relationship with her parents, because they were like ships passing in the night. her father worked security at a local dive bar, while her mother was a manager at a coffee shop in a richer part of town. there was a lot of sacrifices that her parents made that she understands now, but at the time, she just wanted her mom and dad. but, she was lucky to have two very supportive elder brothers to look up to.
some people joke that june was born with a paintbrush in her hand, but it became a bit clearer when she was thirteen, and she won a local art competition, with a prize fund that allowed her to buy her first nice paint set. and then, the rest was history.
shortly before she turned fifteen, her mother was diagnosed with cancer. the young woman along with her elder brothers didn't even hesitate to get a job at a local grocery store in order to help her family -- lying about her age for about six months before she was old enough. what her manager didn't know wouldn't hurt him. painting became something she had less time for, but she eventually came to realize it was the only thing she could see herself truly doing with her life -- if she was going to make it mean something.
thus, between grocery store shifts -- june works with her art teacher, who saw her potential, to make a portfolio that any art school would be stupid to ignore. it's the only thing that keeps her growing amidst her mother's passing, shortly before her seventeenth birthday. when the acceptance to calarts came in the mail only a few days after her mother's funeral -- june took it as a sign. one she knew she'd be fucking stupid to ignore. she had to go, by any means necessary.
and so, while some financial aid was offered -- juniper did what she had to do. she made herself valuable enough to her professors to become a teaching assistant and bartended to pay rent in the house she began sharing with four of her college friends. all the while, she still found a way to send money home.
when she graduates, however, things become a bit less clear. after working so hard, coming so far, where was she supposed to go next? she struggles for a while, but fuck does she try. she had moved away from everything she had ever known in louisiana -- for what? of course she finds herself sinking into herself, becoming far more reclusive as she waits for something, anything to stick to the wall.
in order to keep herself afloat, she gets a bartending job at midnight tease -- continuing the career path that she thought would end when she graduated. and yet, she needs to put food on the table. if her art wouldn't, what was better than something familiar? something stable.
eventually, she's able to move into ellswick tower with one of her former roommates from calarts ( who june considers to be her platonic soulmate ) -- and she basically sleeps in her studio, which doubles as her bedroom. she still works at midnight tease -- one of the more senior employees now ( having started working there her within her first year post grad, she's been there for four years now ), even though she never expected to be. but, she's used to the routine by now.
june and devon were close -- something that she never anticipated, considering that they always appeared to be so different. and yet, when they actually had a conversation besides simple hellos in the hall -- they realized they were more alike than they thought. june supported the podcast wholeheartedly in her own way. even if she didn't always say it out loud, she listened to every episode. after his death, she finds herself wishing she told him more: that he was proud.
𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒.
june's music taste consists of nearly entirely 90's grunge, and is selective about the modern grunge and metal that she listens to. will she admit that she'll occasionally get down to some sabrina carpenter though? probably not.
most of her closet is thrifted, mostly consisting of black, grey and brown. she's had the same pair of doc martens since she was a freshman in college, and she rarely wears any other pair of shoes.
she's had various hair colors throughout her life -- going through plenty of boxes of splat and arctic fox. however, she's stuck mostly with her natural brunette for the past year.
often smells of jasmine perfume, with a kiss of tobacco from the one vice she can never quite let go of. cigarettes.
overall, a very respectful neighbor -- more so because it's like she's invisable. she keeps her music at an adequate level when she's painting and when she's not in her room? she's at work.
MORE TO COME.
