the idea that women are "more allowed" to express emotions than men under patriarchy honestly seems like a lie that serves patriarchy itself.
women are constantly pressured to dissociate from the way our circumstances negatively impact us, and we are straight up not permitted more emotional expression in any meaningful way that is received well in patriarchal relations. in reality, we are marked as "more emotional" and therefore taken less seriously than men.
nobody under patriarchy is allowed a healthy and full expression of their emotions, but framing emotional expression as an advantage that women have is bizarre.
Women are not allowed to express themselves emotionally more. Emotional expression is seen as weakness and women, seen as inherently weaker, are simply expected to fail far more often.

i really really hate seeing black men as portrayed juxtapositions to innocence and kindness in memes, internet jokes and the like. and seeing them proclaimed as “wholesome,” when they are just like. Being “human” people that aren’t being masculine in the way they are thought to be being exceptional and surprising ! it snitches on you! every time!
you gotta ask yourself, why does this idea of opposition effect you? why does a black man handling a kitten illicit that response from you? why does a meme talking about kindness and love with black men in the bg holding up gang signs feel the way it feels? what are these jokes saying about your humor? humor is a tool to interact with larger society, it’s a tool you gotta make sure isn’t being sharpened as a weapon in your hand
@closet-keys thank you so much for reminding me of my favorite videos on this topic. good context that is mentioned in this clip is also that demi is a short man (5’4”-5”), dark skinned and has locs so i bet he gets this A LOT.
i especially appreciate his insight on how it makes him feels desexualizing and like a fucking puppy because two things are happening here.
the desexualization speaks to the default image of black men in the social consciousness. they are “bucks,” “studs, “mandigoes,” and so on and so forth. the juxtaposition confirms the expectation of what a black man is and isn’t. black men are Meant to be sexual objects defined by aggression and desire so it’s surprising when they aren’t !
the feeling of a puppy, personally makes me think of the inverse of it being a dog or a cur. there is ownership here, there is an expectation of wildness and dehumanization. god it even has infantilization! it’s got it all. a dog is only good when it can be controlled, unthreatening, and malleable to training. that is how white women Especially see black men. and im going to also say that white queers, yall do this SO FUCKING MUCH, to black men it’s disgusting. whether it’s in fandom or in the news, it’s omnipresent and disgusting
I wanted to give sparklink stars a chance even when i was preeeetty wary of it being a disney project, but then they came out proudly stating how much they love using ai and the designs are sooo generic. So like. Honestly so disappointed but mostly in myself for having hopes in a disney project
I keep up with new joseimuke/musicpro releases pretty actively (a lot of my favorite projects came out very recently, actually!), and it definitely made me curious at the start (again! Especially because I love Coly projects!!!) but the more information we get of Sparklink Stars and the series itself… It’s not just generic, it’s really not doing anything special at all. Even outside of the AI usage, it feels like it’s a hash of basically what they were doing around 2015-2018 in music projects. It’s very much an Enstars, Project Sekai style series… It reminds me a little of Fragaria Memories too, but without anything that makes that series exciting and fun. It’s very dull
What drives me crazy (that nobody’s discussing) is also… How very UNDisney this project is? I don’t like Disney as a company, I don’t really care about their IPs like that, but as far as companies go… They are very, very particular about their characters and the way they’re portrayed. Mickey characters should NOT mix with Disney Princesses, should NOT mix with Pixar characters. It was to the point that Yana Toboso really, really wanted to give ideas like this to Disney for Twisted Wonderland, and was shot down immediately over it. …So why is it ok here??? Why is it fine here? You can’t have characters mix even at your own amusement parks, but you can do it in this gacha game that’s just now coming out? Not even your money making one??? It’s a very strange lack of Disney integrity that makes me kind of wonder. It only adds to the soullessness of it, which makes me really cautious about the quality of the game, honestly
I really can’t fault people who were excited (I’m always excited for new projects!), but… STILL excited, after everything… I think for better or worse, whatever happens after this game gets released will be a turning point for the joseimuke sphere and that really, really worries me for the future of the genre. We’ve had some of the most compelling projects come out as of late (I even said we were in a golden era before!) but after this, Ayakashi Daikou and all sorts of fully AI generated series I see pop up… I’m bracing myself
vaguely related but man i wish more franchises would hire an artist for each character the way some franchises do. Because you just end up with WAY better design variety overall like my god i'm so tired of same face syndrome
So, I think it’s nuanced. I think a lot of “same face” issues in certain art are less an artist’s style and more a refusal to even try, it’s an industry thing, a lot of good artists DO actually put variety into faces and design- the B Project/Break My Case artist is a good example, but in general I think they should start designing characters with a little more variety as opposed to just very. General anime boy face. On the other hand, I also think some artists genuinely do just have styles that blend together even though they try to have differences in designs (A3/Tokyo Color Sonic artist comes to mind especially), and it’s a little complicated there? But overall I agree just based on the fact I ADORE when series get to have multiple artists working on something. I LOVE series like Ichu, Cordgem, Astro Dive, Fragaria Memories, Paradox Live, etc etc where the units are all given different artists working on their designs and art. I LOVE when artists are commissioned to draw card art or promo art for a series (especially if it’s a different artist drawing each card, oh my god, I LOVE that stuff). PLEASEEEE GIVE ME MORE ARTIST VARIETY I EAT IT UP EVERY TIME!!! I also just like seeing artists I love working on projects I love. Please hire more artists always forever
If there's sexual abuse subtext no there isn't, if there's allusion to sexual abuse you're ruining it for everyone else by talking about it, if there's a metaphor for sexual abuse you're reading too far into it and it's actually a metaphor for anything more palatable, and if there's on-screen sexual abuse? Well that's exploitative torture porn, of course.
whether or not men benefit from feminism has no bearing on whether feminism is worthwhile
put another way. i dont care about how men are impacted by feminism
already have people mad about this. okay here's another take. men should be feminists for no benefit.
Prefacing by saying I don’t like generative AI, I think it’s bad for many different reasons, the biggest issue I have in its usage in joseimuke is refusal to hire somebody who could’ve done the job (and lack of originality/artistry especially) but there are lots of ethical concerns regarding it and the recent push towards its inclusion in everything
But it is really, really sad to see I.Adore still have the reputation it does among fans when I’d argue it’s one of the most refreshing takes on an idol project we’ve had in a VERY long time- when the music is gorgeous (some of the commission picks have been crazy!!), the character concepts are very fun and shockingly original/tropeless (closest I can think of is Nanashi who’s very gyaru, but EARNESTLY gyaru which we haven’t had in awhile), the plot itself is nothing like what’s in the scene already at all and the themes have been very interesting (genuinely, AI could not write the heart that this series has, the story is hilarious, charming and sweet, and it’s been very helpful in a particular part of my recent life)- yet series that use AI more consistently and egregiously get a pass because I.Adore’s always had an unfortunate, undeserved reputation of “killing” Hypmic
I don’t excuse I.Adore’s AI usage, but it was a one-time use, in one aspect of the very first MV, that was credited alongside all the other artists who did put human effort into it. I don’t like it, I’m genuinely disappointed King Records couldn’t hire an artist to make the 3D models, but we have credits proven that they were touched up by human hands, so I assume it was for time restraint purposes… But people act as if the entire MV was generated from the ground up, as if the music itself was generated, as if even the script and series were generated and that’s not only such a disservice to the talent that’s being put into this project (on EVERY level, script writing, musically, artistically… That is SO many creatives you are writing off for no good reason), but a really really concerning lack of understanding at what AI usage looks like
It’s very sad to see people prop up Sparklink Stars and try to downplay its own AI usage… I love Coly games, I love Break My Case and Mahoyaku, I even love On Air, but whether we’d like to admit it or not, Coly has stated they’re going to use AI in their projects, ESPECIALLY in Sparklink Stars. They’re using generative AI, both in its writing and in its visuals. Yes, they’ve hired artists, they’ve hired a team of writers, but people using that as proof they’re “not” is very bizarre... We have explicit proof that members of its team are VERY familiar using AI (we have people who have worked on fully-AI otome games working here), where is this same level of outrage for something so much worse? People don’t seem to care whatsoever, just because it’s Disney? Because they like Disney as a company? (Even though Disney themselves are definitely pro-AI…). I have a lot to say about Sparklink Stars and about it as a project but it’s very concerning this is getting the attention and praise in the scene, when I can name off so many more projects that are so groundbreaking and creative comparatively…
It really seems as if people don’t have true morals with this, when it’s projects they like they’re willing to turn a blind eye (I mean, see how many Hypmic fans are still diehard for the series, despite that property being what King Records chooses for their AI chatbots… See how frequently Charisma House has implemented it without people really doing much beyond complaining for a little bit), and when it’s projects they dislike, they’re ready to write it off completely and defame it. It’s very disappointing
