“The unfortunate fire incident at Absalom, to be specific. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure investigators are doing everything they can, but it’s certainly easy to overlook certain things when they’re as busy as they are.”

“The fact that you are relying upon unpredictable and unreliable members of the public to offer you tips is laughable. You are aware that this is Beaumont, right? The civilians know better than to snitch on whomever burned down Georgina’s shitty little business.”
“It’s not relying, but it would be silly to close off all options, don’t you think?” Juno bristled inwardly, but she knew better than to betray her defensiveness easily. “Besides, I don’t think it’s too much to expect that someone will do the right thing sooner or later.”

“Let me guess, it’s just a bunch of snot-nosed kids or concerned elderly neighbors? Typical in a city like this. May I ask what this tip line is for?”
“Try way too many of the former. It’s like some people can hardly seem to take anything seriously.”
“Sure! It’s for the...ah, incident at Absalom. You wouldn’t happened to have heard anything, would you?”
“Why didn’t anyone dissuade me when I thought an open tip line would be a good idea?”
Juno || Absalom ||

“They’re not just begging, they’re suicidal that’s what they are,” Georgina spat watching as an official came through scribbling on their pad. She scoffed knowing damn well that the BCPD wouldn’t be able to find any leads, nor would they put in any effort. At least she had people on the payroll to do that work for her. Walking over to the Juno, Georgina considered the suggestion. Juno had a point that they would be watched and whoever had the audacity to pull such a move would likely try to strike in the future. “Whoever did this is an idiot. Every soul in this godforsaken city knows that when you touch something that belongs to the Amadors you’re already one step in the grave.”
She pinched the bridge of her nose, reining in her violent thoughts to think clearly on the situation. “Spin it as an accident. Make the statement that we are going to let the police handle this, but you let every loyalist know that a prize is up for grabs.” A slick grin pushed the corners of her lips as the thought came together.
Juno watched Georgina, knowing fully well that the woman would be in a terrible mood for some time. Not that she could blame her - an attack on Absalom was a direct attack on the Amadors, and privately, Juno wondered what that would mean for the immediate future. The family had kept her loyalty, but they had earned it at first because of their reputation as the group not to mess with.
“They are. They just don’t know it it yet.”
She held her bag at her shoulder, nodding presently even as she thought of ways to make it happen. Spreading the word amongst the Amador loyalists would be easy; she just had to speak to a few people before the rumors of compensation would spread like wildfire. Spinning this for the rest of the city would be a challenge.
“An accident. Understood. In the meantime, I’ll keep close contact with the guys down at the station in case they hear anything.” She hesitated slightly. “You don’t think whoever this is will try anything else, do you?”

“Do you have to throw me such a judgemental look? A glass of red wine is the only drink that should keep one hydrated while enjoying a well-prepared meal. That’s not considered day drinking.”
“Sorry, did it come off that way? I was trying not to look so jealous, I swear. Wine is by far an essential addition.”

Yellow taped wrapped around Absalom like a tinsel on a Christmas tree. Charred pieces broke off what was still standing as Georgina could do nothing but walk through the remains with a permanent frown etched on her face. The sirens finally stopped but the flashes of red, white and blue continued to warn people to stay away. Whoever had the balls to set the restaurant on fire now had a target on their back and Georgina
“Look at this. All gone and now we’re gonna have to rebuild this place I mean–just look at it!” Frustration in her voice, Georgina threw her hands up in disgust wondering if the day could indeed get worse.
Juno practically ran out the cab that had take her to the what used to be Absalom - and when she finally did take in the full sight, she stopped in shock. She was not originally one of the Amadors, but she was personally indebted to Georgina, and any attack on the woman stirred Juno up. She swallowed, trying to wrap her mind around the sheer gall of the act before speaking.
“It’s...I can’t believe someone actually did this. That’s - that’s practically begging for a bullseye on themselves.” Watching Georgina, Juno closed her eyes and breathed in, breathed out, smoke flooding her nose as a bitter reminder of what their short term future looked like. “Okay...Officially, we could spin this as an accident. If someone had the audacity to do this, they’ve probably already begun their next move, and we don’t need the police on our backs while looking into this.” She looked to Georgina for her thoughts - she wouldn’t be surprised if the other woman didn’t want to take that approach, even if she hoped she would.

“But I suppose I can see why a person working for the press may not attend. After all, there’s still the potential threat of the remaining Baldwin Boys members.” An unpleasant expression crossed her features, brows knitted together. “Can you imagine those idiots coming in here and ruining such a lovely evening?” At the compliment, Claire’s expression softened and she offered the redhead a warm smile. “Thank you! I wouldn’t have a clue what designer made them or where I got them from. But I must say, your hair is incredibly.”
“I can certainly imagine it, but if I were them, I don’t think I’d risk the humiliation. I mean, what real point would there be? Nothing would bring them back at this point.” Juno shrugged, having been fairly honest. She didn’t see a reason for any of the Boys to do anything besides cut and run at this point.
“Oh, thank you! I’d say it was effortless, but we both know I probably spent far too much time preparing for this party. It’s just very nice to actually enjoy something for once, don’t you think?”

“Perhaps I am being too harsh, but then again, I am relatively new to Beaumont so I haven’t done a whole lot of anything.” His words were followed by a shrug, a slight smile clinging to his thin lips. The journalism side of writing had never attracted Drew so he was more than willing to support such a toast but he had to admit he was somewhat curious as to why the redhead had sounded so bitter. “I hope you won’t kill me or something for asking, but are you okay?”
“Well, sometimes an outsider’s perspective is just what’s needed as well. It’s too easy to get caught up in the details and miss the forest entirely.” Juno pointed out. The irony wasn’t lost on her that she used to be that very perspective, yet now she was as embroiled in the city’s drama as any of its natives. “Kill? Oh, you’re talking to the wrong person,” she joked with a light laugh, even if he supposed it was true. “I’m fine. Just bringing baggage and ruining what’s otherwise a great night - thank you for asking, though. I’m Juno, by the way.”

Smooth save, Caspar thought to himself, though what the woman said satisfied him enough to make him smile. For now. Yes, he was that kind of man that could be pleased with ass-kissing; but that was because it stroked his ego in all the right ways. “I quite agree,” he said with a nod. “I, myself, have been craving a good party. So this is just the right occassion.” Politely, he then outstretched his hand to introduce himself. “Caspar.”
“Exactly. And it appears you aren’t alone, judging by the turnout.” Then again, to anyone who wasn’t willingly blind, it was apparent there were many more things going on than just celebration, but confrontation wasn’t Juno’s style. “A pleasure, Caspar.” Smiling, she shook his hand firmly yet politely. “Juno,” she replied, her smile not wavering despite her hope that he wouldn’t recognize her name. “And charmed to meet you. I was just going to visit the bar - you’re more than welcome to join.”
georgina-amador:
She muttered a soft “hm” before dropping her now empty glass onto a waiter’s plate before picking up another. These events were only as good as the wine and right now it was the only thing enjoyable. “They better be able to find something useful. What’s the point of bribing an officer if they can’t be useful in situations like these.” Nowadays it seems as if the vast majority of BCPD was bought off by a group with a few exceptions still trying to serve justice wherever they could. “Yes please do. You’re one of the most capable people we have, Juno. I have yet to see you make bad mistakes so there’s no reason for me to worry.”
“Mm. No real point, even if most of them try hard. There’s a few I wouldn’t mind seeing go, but it’s not my call,” she said, thinking of the officer she dealt with most frequently and didn’t care to deal with at all. “Regardless, I’ll get right on that. And...thank you. I’m still grateful for the opportunity you gave me after that unfortunate incident back at The Post - and I’m not one to waste that.”

“It really is lovely, isn’t it?” Claire offered the woman a nod in agreement before she continued to speak. “I think it symbolizes how the city is beginning to rebuild now that the Baldwin Boys are behind bars.” The blonde did not have a great knowledge about the goings-on of the Post nor who exactly was a journalist that was in attendance. “I’m sure Miss Lawson has people who are picking up the slack for the journalists.”
“Absolutely,” Juno said. She didn’t agree at all, but it wasn’t hard to feign agreement when the other person was at least polite. It was a nice change. “Oh, definitely. I’m sure she wouldn’t miss a chance to let this press go to waste. If I was in her shoes, I sure wouldn’t - and speaking of, your shoes look fantastic.”
[voicemail]: Whatever it is you're doing or working on stop right now. I need you over at Absalom now to do a massive spin on the clusterfuck that I'm dealing with currently. Thank you.
A year and a half of working for the Amadors had done Juno’s sense of safety no favors, and when she slept now, it was lightly and with her phone close at hand. When it vibrated, she started slightly and fumbled for the device, listening to the message. Her eyes flew wide open and her face, previously drawn with sleep, was now alert as her brain began to consider the possibilities. Juno fumbled out of bed, and stopped only enough to tap out a quick message to Georgina: “On my way” before she was out the door.
georgina-amador:
“How he and Ms. Kessler have been able to create NE3 and have it continue to grow is beyond me. You’d think something so ambitious would blow up in their faces.” She would die before letting either one of them know she was impressed with their plans, but it only meant that they needed to die before they had a chance to spread. “This is a smart idea, Juno. I know I should run it over with Joaquin, but he’s better off being in the dark. I’m sure one of our contacts in the BCPD can give us a head start on this project.”
“Well, you know what they say about monkeys and typewriters. Blind luck says that someone would succeed eventually.” Juno shrugged lightly - truthfully, she knew how carefully one had to craft anything in Beaumont. Just living here seemed like she was balancing a house of cards sometimes. “Definitely. I know one of the detectives might be able to find something,” she said, shooting a probing glance over to Georgina. “I could give him a call if you wanted.”

“Depends on your personal definition of lovely, I suppose. The word lovely being used to describe anything in this city just makes me laugh.” The words that followed were met with an arched brow, a hand running through his beard as though he were in deep contemplation. “The journalists at the Post are about as competent as a dog glued to a cat. Completely ridiculous and incredibly useless.”
“Maybe you’re being a bit harsh. I mean, every place has something to admire about it, even if you have to do a bit of digging,” she suggested, though she couldn’t help but agree with the man privately. At his comment about her ex-coworkers, she was about to politely disagree again, but then she remembered Jeremiah and the way he’d done her wrong.
“Here’s to The Post, I suppose. May their judgment be forever lacking,” she said in a slightly more bitter tone than intended.

“What exactly do you think is lovely about this?” Caspar asked with an eyebrow raised, the back of his fingers slowly rubbing against his jaw in thought, head tipped to the side a bit. Of course people were enjoying this evening, and Cas would be lying if he said he didn’t use this opportunity to stir a little trouble, actively seeking for offence. He’d be damned if the citizens forgot the Baldwin Boys.
“The hors d'oeuvres, the drinks, the general atmosphere. It’s quite clear there was a lot of effort put into this.” She smiled sweetly, though she watched him carefully for his reaction. “This city’s been long overdue for a celebration, though - maybe the payoff makes it all the sweeter.”
georgina-amador:
An approving nod sent in Juno’s direction, Georgina was happy to hear at least one loyalist was smart and ambitious enough to think of their next plans. If they were content with their position it would only serve as their downfall like the Baldwins.
“So we let the bumbling fools still hell bent on justice fall–I like it. Nice and simple without any real effort on our part. Now, let’s hear these ideas of yours on Kershaw. I certainly think it’s the best time seeing as we’re celebrating the fall of one group and hopefully orchestrating the next.”
“Exactly - at least for the moment. They can distract themselves for the moment, and when they’re looking the other way, we just finish whatever they’ve started.” Sometimes, even now, Juno surprised herself with what she found herself thinking. She had been blindsided herself, though, and knew how effective it could be.
“As for Mr. Kershaw, I do have to admit he’s helped run a tight ship so far, but he and his friends are growing - and no organization can do so without a few cracks somewhere. I propose we find that, and...well, we’ve all seen what this city does when it gets wind of blood in the water.”
