Thanks For Dinner
its late at night, and i just got off work. i picked up some dinner for jack and i, until i remembered he’s working an all nighter. but, why let it go to waste? i can always surprise him and drop off dinner.
i’m walking into the ER, and lupe recognizes me with a wave, as i walk up to the counter.
“i’ll let dr. abbot know you’re here,” she says through the mic before i speak up. “actually, i want to surprise him, can i meet him in the staff room?” i ask nicely, as polite as i can, as i know it’s not really allowed for me to be back there.
“sure, i’ll let him know someone’s waiting for him,” lupe says with a smile, more excited about the surprise than i am. she loves stuff like that.
the pitt is always busy and crawling with patients and nurses and doctors, so it’s not hard for me to just walk through without worrying of jack recognizing me, but he knows me well so i should walk fast.
i finally make it to the staff room and begin to setup the food i had brought. i remember he might not have time to eat it, so instead i grab one of the tupperware boxes in the cabinet and start filling that up so i can take my share home and he can have his later. wow i am so smart.
when i begin scooping the food into the box, i hear his familiar voice behind me. “hey, what’re you doing here?” he asks me, his voice soft like he doesn’t want to scare me away. “i wanted to surprise you. i brought dinner, im just packing it for you” i say walking up to him. i hardly see him work so im not sure what “work mode jack” is really like. i tread lightly, about to open my arms suggesting a hug, but i feel his strong arms wrap around me first and pull me into his chest. “fuck, i’m so glad you came,” he whispers into my hair. i squeeze him back, reassuring him, and try to pull away so i can see his face. “what’s wrong? what happened?” i ask, because he’s not usually this stressed.
“nothing i just,” he looks at me, both his hands on either side of my face, holding my hair within his fingers. “just a patient, from earlier.” he finishes. i nod, not wanting to press further. maybe someone died and he was glad to see me, or maybe someone just was in danger? i’m not sure, but i do want to make sure the rest of his shift is tolerable.
i shift my body upwards so we can kiss and plant a soft one on his lips which he returns. i can feel him relax, as if he’s melting under me, not pulling away from my mouth. it’s me who has to step back, laughing at his romance i say, “make sure you eat something, okay?” giggling at the ticklish silly kisses he’s planting on my collarbone.
“oh, i know what i want to eat,” jack says his hands slipping slightly under my sun dress before he lets them fall again, teasing me so. “jack, you’re at work!” i say, unable to control my flustered giggles. “give me five minutes, i can do it in five minutes,” he says whispering in my ear, nibbling on it. i look over at the window of the door, hoping no one can see us in here. biting my lip, i know it’s not a good idea, but it sounds so hot, and he looks so hot, and ugh, fine.
i move to the wall, my back pressed against it when jack goes to lock the door. with the way we’re against the wall, no one should be able to see us, but we’re fucked if someone tries to come in. jack’s lips meet mine before his hands can reach me, and when they do they explore under my dress almost immediately.
our kisses are messy, and we’re laughing, and i hold my breath to keep in any moans of his name id let slip out if we were back at home. “thanks for dinner baby,” he whispers, his voice roughter than before, as his head dips below my dress and disappears between my legs.
