The sound of snow slushing beneath the tires and the sudden feeling of coming to an abrupt stop broke Jake away from his thoughts, his eyes flickering open as he shut his iPod off and glanced out the window. School always looked like a different place on Saturdays, when you didn't even have to be there, it seemed. Quieter, deader, more haunted, not that there was any reason to actually fear the building. It just held a different air to it, and that kind of bothered Jake just thinking about it. Of course, it didn't help that he was there for detention, of all things. Not something he was new too, of course, but whatever. He was new, however, to this sense of dread that came with going to school today. He got detention for, in his opinion, the stupidest offense. He didn't start the exchange between him and Ryder. Hell, he never did. But it happened, and Coach pulled them apart and gave them each a detention. "Time to get your acts together, boys. We've gotta be a team if we're going anywhere from here, and I need you both with your heads in the game, working together". Coach Beiste needed them to get over their differences, and she needed it done today. Which is why both were coming today, to be locked up in the library together until they sorted their shit out. Somehow, Jake didn't imagine this going well.
"You just let me know when you need to get picked up," his mother said, gripping the steering wheel as she waited for Jake to gather his things. The boy glanced up at the woman, not saying a word as he offered a small smile and leaned over to kiss her cheek. She already gave him an earful for showing up home with a bruised lip later than usual from practice, now she just wanted him to get this all over with so she didn't have to worry about her son causing more trouble at school. "See you later," he said, gripping the strap of his backpack as he exited the car and bounded up the steps towards the school. He figured he could get some homework or something done while he was there, which was kind of a weird thing to say aloud since Jake hardly ever did his classwork. Not that he was dumb or something, he just didn't really care to apply himself. Lately, though, he'd been putting in an effort, and figured he could waste some time doing that, or maybe doing some sketches in his sketchbook to pass the time. It would be long before anything got resolved, and he needed his distraction. Keeping that in mind, Jake headed straight for the Library, where Coach would be waiting, just hoping the day would pass by and he wouldn't have to deal with Ryder Lynn again any time soon.
