A conversation between past and present
"Will it ever get better?"
"For a while it will get worse. So much worse. And you'll feel hopeless and just succumb to everything. The pain, the sadness, the anger. You will rage for quite a while, believing that's all you'll ever be. But eventually you will meet someone who makes it easier. Someone who's staying and won't betray you. And then you'll meet another. And another. There will be many people in a life dictated by lonliness. You'll build your own haven all on your own. At first, you will not realize the gift of their presence. You'll think of them as beneath you and yourself above feeling anything remotely vulnerable. But then the anger will fade. Your eyes shrouded in pain will clear. And for the first time in your life you'll feel calm. Content. Safe. Home. It will be a long journey to get there, it will hurt a lot, it will feel impossible to reach your happy end. Be kind to yourself when it feels impossible. You've gone through so much pain, it's okay to rest."
"Every day. But the type of fear will change. What once was fear for my life, of people and of abandonment, will turn into fear of harm coming to those i cherish. I worry a lot. It's still burdening but much easier to carry. And whenever i am scared i can turn to them and they'll be there and I'll know that everything is okay."
"What should i do from here? I don't know where to turn or how to bear everything."
"You're stronger than you think. For now and for eternity, all you have to do is make it through the night. You will learn as you grow and grow as you age. It's going to be okay. It sounds difficult and it really is, but all you have to do is persevere and survive. With time, all will fall into place. The burden will never disappear, but it will lighten."
"I'm scared of the future."
"What if I can't make it?"
"I am you and you are me. We carry the same soul. That alone proves your strength."
"Can't you take me with you?"
"I'm sorry, little one. But this journey is something you'll have to experience yourself in order to truly understand the value of what you have. Life and fate aren't kind or merciful, but they are good teachers."
"I cannot. I have a home I belong to now. Always remember to take care of yourself. Because even if you haven't met them yet, someone really cared about you."
