Let’s get this show on the road! 🎥
I think I made the jump between “Penny acts that way cause she’s a robot” and “Penny acts that way cause she’s autistic” about the same time I realized that a lot of the cues autistic girls have are cause of relentless bullying into a specific brand of conformity, something that Penny’s father has shielded her from. She’s weird and stimmy and fixated and joyful because, for the majority of her life, no one has ever made her feel that she should be otherwise.
There’s two reasons that Penny is in my opinion the only good autistic robot. The first is because she’s the antithesis of every stereotype we get slotted into in that trope—in the Emotion vs Logic character pairing contrast of volume 7, she’s the one who embodies emotion. Penny wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s literally Atlas’s conscience.
The second is that the narrative never makes her change who she is and, instead, gives her divine proof that she’s just as much a Real Person as anyone else.
i’m neural typical, so i realize i don’t get a say, but the whole ‘robot as code for autism’ always rubbed me the wrong way.
people with autism aren’t machines. they’re fucking people. when Penny showed up, i loved her from minute 1 and it wasn’t until months later when i got the courage to check out the fndm (truly a horrible decision) that i realized that she was coded as autistic. i have no idea where i’m going with this, but i would die for Penny
It’s been mentioned before, but the main reasons are a) Ruby, the protagonist of the show and a human, is also coded as autistic, so it’s not like this is our only character, and b) usually when we see ourselves in non humans, be they aliens or robots or whatever, it’s cause a neurotypical writer wants to show how inhuman they are and their main arcs are about becoming human (ie neurotypical). Penny’s arc is about how she always was human despite others trying to reduce her or change her, something a lot of us can relate to and find joy in.
You’re not out of bounds, normally the trope is really annoying and dehumanizing, but I see Penny as a subversion of the typical arcs given to such characters, one that focuses on affirming her humanity rather than changing her to fit NT norms. Hence why we’re a lot more comfortable labeling her as such.
Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
post so nice had to reblog it twice and force it down everyone's throats
At minimum about 4.5 thousand people liked this without reblogging it.
We gotta fix that.
reinstalled shinigami eyes to take a look at the damage and it's so much worse than a year or so ago when i deleted it. virtually every intersex blog i know of regardless of how they feel about tme/tma is marked red unless they are especially vocal about liking it, countless trans men are marked red regardless of whether they are vocally inclusive, most who are marked green are either famous guys or are (somewhat) infamous for their transphobia and exorsexism if not also racism.
Plenty of transphobic cis folks are green. Virtually every trans-positivity account is red except for the ones who are unapologetically transphobic to at least part of the community. Countless trans women who vocally uses the term transandrophobia are marked red. Several trans women who dont even use the term but have at least on one occasion defended or sympathized with trans men are red. Several trans women who are bigender/NB/Etc with inclusion of any "male" or masc terms are red regardless of whether they seem to have anything to say about trans men.
It is BLEAK. I've been trying to remove reds and greens as I assess, but it is really really gross that it was a pretty well-known soft rule a decade plus ago that you didn't mark trans people red at all even if they were shitheads, unless they were actual proud terfs, because the flagging was guaranteed to isolate them from community.
Inability to assess risk and a total aversion to narratives that contradict what you assume to be the case for others is getting people into a lot of trouble.
Shinigami eyes is completely dead and less than useless, but since so many people still seem to trust it, I do not want people to keep getting flagged as violent evil transphobes cause they started identifying as genderqueer.
Finished up Blake’s that goes with Yang and Weiss’ attire after looking at AION’s artbook for too long.

could you imagine if it happened this pride month
awww the like button turns into a rainbow when you press it! that's so cute...hey staff what's with all the trans women you keep nuking?
i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
Happy Pride Month, RWBY FNDM! ❤️🌈
To those who are LGBTQ+, or are allies, let’s give it up for celebrating and fighting for love! 🥰
These are the confirmed canon LGBTQ+ characters in the RWBY universe! Please do not argue about their Pride flags; if their exact identity has not been specified by CRWBY, I gave them the main Pride flag. 🏳️🌈 I also originally posted this drawn back in 2023, but with this update I added the canon non-binary characters Shion and Somewhat!
Sweet and heartfelt moments after the fact. There is an nsfw version in my pc files, lol, not sure where that's going to be posted
Rainbow carrots?
Can't say I've ever heard of them, but I've learned enough weird vegetable facts over the course of my life to know that "I've never heard of that kinda vegetable before" doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
They're not actually rainbow so much as white and purple and yellow as well as orange.
Still beautiful, though!
Just got to the episode with Santos and Langdon and the seizure patient. First, Langdon’s recommended is wrong. They’re at four minutes of seizure activity and have already given eight of lorazepam. Santos is right that at five minutes when you call this status epilepticus you need to give the anti-seizure medication. She suggests levetiracetam which is one of the first line options. She is completely correct in her knowledge of how to manage status, which is impressive for a new intern.
Langdon wants to keep giving benzos we assume because he knows that what the patient got was actually saline. Putting that horror aside for one second, his suggestion that they repeatedly give benzos and even intubate a patient in status prior to giving an anti-seizure medication is just wildly incorrect management.
Robby lets Langdon get away with continuing this incorrect management but another attending might not have and then the patient what, would never have gotten benzos at all? That’s insane to think about.
Which brings me to how shocking this is on a rewatch. Langdon is taking an action that could have killed or caused serious permanent cognitive impairment to this patient. Who knows how many patients have been harmed. The ED treats a whole lot of alcohol withdrawal which is treated with benzos and is potentially lethal if not treated correctly.
It’s completely understandable that Santos feels like she’s being gaslit when he’s welcomed back warmly. The problem isn’t the substance use disorder. The problem is his utter disregard for taking an action that might have killed patients. Robby too gets a lot of pushback for not welcoming Langdon warmly, but again he knows that Langdon stole drugs and could have harmed patients. And Langdon’s many apologies seem never to wrestle with the real moral failing of his, forever hiding behind addiction to not take responsibility for having possibly done real harm to numerous patients.
Side note that what happens to Langdon after season one wasn’t up to Robby but up to the residency program. And having seen many residents be allowed to graduate who truly should not practice medicine, it’s unsurprising that no serious action was taken.
here's where to find it on windows 10
Already know I wanna send this to people on June 1
Audio:
Erika, referencing ebenezer scrooge: You, boy! What day is it?!
Brennan, as a young boy: It's Pride, bitch!
