Analysing things is my love language, so it's clear that I have a whole lot of TLT analyses. I want to collect them in this post, because I have trouble finding them myself. Much fun!
I'm an Ianthe stan
Ianthe and ADHD (my favorite analysis post of mine, I'm serious, it's very me-core)
Corona, Ianthe and the Threat of Killing Oneself
Ianthe is the Underling (she is such a good girl)
Ianthe's the Most Repressed Nun Third I've Ever Seen (Emotionally)
About the Thoughtfulness of Ianthe's Lies
Dying as a Skill Issue (Dying is for suckers, bitch!)
Ianthe apparently knows more than she says
The Unwanted Guest is a Genius Mindfuck (my very first post, click here to meet baby cemetegee)
Ianthe Goes Poetry
Ianthe is not the pure evil, but a very normal person
Ianthe Lore
Could Ianthe see Cytherea's Corpse?
Ianthe is Actually Angry With Harrow because of the Lobotomy
Does Ianthe Have a (Deadly) Disease?
Ianthe Must be Borderline Horny in TUG
Ianthe's relationship to Corona (not gonna lie, probably neccessary to understand the posts above)
The Tridentarii Power Shift Dynamic
"Corona's Con" | Who's in Charge? (Whooo is in ControOoOl?)
Family Ties (or Third House culture?)
Corona hanged herself in in front of her eyes
The Tridentarii & Lolita
A very smart user said the Tridentarii would maybe only *perform* their Tridentariicest (maybe to disgust everybody from further investigations in their relationship?), and I'm OBSESSED with that take
Ianthe's Relationship to Babs
Ianthe and Babs Were Best Buddies (well at least a bit :(...)
Does Ianthe Regret the Murder of Naberius Tern?
Babs Died for her Plot Armor (that's literally the whole post, you don't have to click on the link)
Coronabeth Tridentarius: An Approach to her Character
Coroniphis & Ianthe (the explanatation for Ianthe's name seems to be more connected to Corona than to her)
What in Hell has she Done to Babs?
Than to Love and be Loved by Ianthe the First, Saint of Awe
Corona is a Very Third Person (Nobody Notices Somehow)
Corona has killed Babs (haven't thought of that myself, but I find it interesting)
TLT Mechanics
How Could Cytherea Infiltrate Canaan House Without Being Betrayed by a Missing Thanergic Signature
Who/What is Kiriona Gaia? (my poor saddest girl in the whole world :()
How Could Wake Use Cytherea's body? (Necromantic Explanatation)
Why can Cavs and Necros Use Each Other's bodies? | How Could Palamedes Use Babs body? (just some basic theories about necromancy my friendos)
John "Jod" Gaius
Why Didn't Jod Heal Cytherea's Cancer?
Jod is not Obliged to See Gideon as his Daugther, as Hard as it Sounds (Hear me out) (mostly about questioning blood relation as synonym for family in this case, what is also interesting to me in regard to found families)
Strange Pre-Ressurection Behavior Against Mercymorn
John is not the pure evil, but a very normal person
John was Pretty Fucked Up when he Decided to Kill the world (Correction to what I said in the post: he *did* technically kill her. Pulling out the soul of a body is dying by definition)
Hugs for John (I don't agree with his actions (such as for example killing the world) but his life can't be easy since then)
John 00:00 (Or John has the worst OCD ever known to men, in my opinion, and I apologize him because of that) (Correction: I said in that post John would intend to die. I still think that (see post below) but he likely doesn't intend to die forever)
John has to die for a Second Resurrection [Theory]
Any Thoughts About the Theological Implications of the character John "Jod" Gaius?
TLT Meta
Determinism in TLT
I Would Like to Talk About the Implications of TLT pls pls 👉👈 (pls ignore how much I sound like a snob in that post lol. I AM NOT, that was just me trying to formulate my wish in English :D)
The characters of TLT aren't the pure evil but very normal people
I recently thought about the German youth book author Cornelia Funke for that reason, because she does something you wouldn't expect of a youth book author. Most of her books don't end well.
i believe in the locked tomb podcast they mention that Moira Quirk just thought she would have one, but i could easily have mistaken or misremembered a fact (i will re listen to it soon cause it's been awhile and it's a good listen!)
you know what i really don't like? this weird bone-bra thing from HtN book cover that also some fanartist draw
like I don't see Harrow - a character who feels uncomfortable with long hair, doesn't want to be seen without a whole facepaint and hates dresses - wanting to emphasize her boobs like that
but also she is obsessed with bones, she loves boneeees, i think she'd rather go for accuracy not this little mermaid shell bra situation, like be for real
I think one of Gideon's funniest moments is when she learns that Pal and Dulcie have a Thing and she's so distraught about it because she feels like a complete homewrecker. Like she just made one of her first ever friends, this weird little man whom she diagnosed as Bitchless upon first sight, and then she learns he actually does have A Single Bitch but it's the woman she's been flirting with nonstop since she got there. So naturally her reaction is to start mourning for him because literally, how was her new bestie The Most Bitchless Man Alive ever supposed to compete with her
Gideon wouldn't read yaoi because she has never really considered that men could be capable of complex feelings and sexual attraction.
Harrow wouldn't read yaoi because the notions of romance and sex are almost as disgusting to her as the concept of men. However, if she had to pick, she would read yaoi over yuri, because the most she would feel towards yaoi is disdain, while yuri would vaporize her on the spot.
Fic idea where Ianthe follows her surgeon career and lives that basic af rich girl life but secretly writes yaoi fanfiction on the internet. (That increasingly become a fix it fic for her attempt to get Harrow in a relationship.) She would. It's her sensitive side.
I find it very telling that Tamsyn Muir, who came up through this hellsite, wrote books where the evil emperor starts out as a basically okay leftist millennial tumblr user.
What makes the villain the villain (inasmuch as it's useful to examine TLT characters through that kind of simplistic lens) is that when the chips are down and he has to choose, his priority is punishing the wicked, not saving the people left behind.
I would invite anyone whose engagement with their cause consists of finding the 'correct' group of people to hate, to consider whether 'evil emperor' is the next career move you see yourself taking, and if it isn't, to gently suggest disembarking from the hate train.
Because no one wants their God King to be a tumblrina called John.
i love that harrowhark nonagesimus' father is named PRIAMhark and her mother is named PELLEamena, priam being the father of hector and of paris and pelleus being the father of achilles. hector is killed by achilles who is killed by paris. harrow is all of them. harrow is her own destroyer.
something aomething names in the locked tomb series.
john renaming all his friends with fancy neoclassicist names, naming them after shakespeare, because calling them by their original names doesnt feel right.
john, when he gets the chance to name his own child, of his own blood, he calls her kiriona - maori for 'gideon'.
alecto - one of the furies who sought to sow discord during the Trojan war, all in the name of Jove, punishing crimes committed by mortals against god.
how john hates that name.
calls her annabel lee.
he named her. annabel lee, after the poem by edgar allen poe about a love that transcends death, because the name annabel is made up of two words: anna for grace, and belle for beauty/woman.
but also;
it is derived from the latin word "amabilis", meaning "to love".
"that was a good one," he said, and then he wept again.
"If you can do it, so can she. If she can do it, so can we" - Wait for Me (Reprise), Hadestown
This has been sitting finished in my files for months now. But I was reading The Locked Tomb and listening to Hadestown a lot around the same time and this happened.
[ID: Digital art of characters from The Locked Tomb series. Harrow is walking up a path through a cave. She is leading Gideon and a line of children. Harrow has her skull face paint on and the sword encased in bone on her back. She is using a large piece of bone as a walking stick as the path gets steeper. Behind her, Gideon is walking confidently, wearing her sunglasses. While Harrow and Gideon are fully rendered, the line of children is just the shapes of people, like ghosts. Behind Harrow there is a red light that trails down the hill behind her. Above at the end of the tunnel the light turns more bluish-green. /End ID]
I feel like it does need to be considered, if we're opening the "powder offhand" question again, that the offhand is a weapon primarily intended for sport, not for warfare. There doesn't seem to be a formal list of admissible options but it does have to be functional in a formal duel, in which necromancers are definitely not allowed to participate.
Re-reading Harrow the Ninth and the older I get, the more I understand Ortus. He’s been working on his WIP for god knows how long, will almost certainly never finish it, and quotes it at anyone who will listen. Doesn’t want to get involved in literally anything else. I get it.
Remembering the way Gideon is somewhat rude to Nona and Camilla defends Nona immediately, and then Crux tells Gideon that he wishes she were dead and calls her scum and an animal and literally nobody defends her.
