Oh? You're interested in me? Well... there's not much to tell. I'm a player who got tired of sitting idle. Yep. Just a cowardly hacker with a hero complex looking for a truly perfect ending. Perhaps... one with a future I can finally be in. (Independent, and fairly non-selective PLAYER RP/Ask blog. “Video Games? Well i’ve played a few of the ones over at the hot springs before, but I wouldn’t say I’m very good at them and I don’t get them nearly as well as Red Fox-san does, so I don’t really understand. What do they have to do with the kind of animal that you are? I guess I could kind of imagine the first thing you said a little but…” Kaban thinks out loud trying to wrap her mind around exactly what PLAYER was trying to say and not really getting anywhere with it all quite yet…  

“Wait are you something really rare? something that was featured in a video game maybe? But otherwise isn’t well known… something that’s from mythology maybe?” She still can’t see how it would connect to ‘human mind in a robot’s body’ yet, but all the games that she’d played featured Friends from the park as the characters in a way that was meant to teach the player a little about animals involved. But none of the animals she remembers from the games she’s played seemed anything like PLAYER so maybe that wasn’t the idea after all. 

“Well. I suppose you could call me a one of a kind being. This body of mine is sort of like a character in a video game. I can control it but it’s not really ‘me’. I’m just a disembodied soul controlling it. It confuses even me a bit honestly. I assure you that I used to be a perfectly ordinary human at some point though. At least I think I was.” How long ago had that been actually? It feels like a distant dream now.

“That’s part of why I took on the moniker of PLAYER. It’s more or less what I am. A player controlling their avatar to interact with the world around them.” It was also a means to distance themselves from their previous life as well and the negativity they fled by becoming this existence. A fresh start. That was the intent at least.

A small mischievous smile breaks across their face at the knowledge of someone who might pose a challenge in video gaming. “That said, Red Fox huh? I wonder if they’d be up for taking on a new challenger. I do enjoy a good video game and it’s been a bit since I've had a worthy rival. Well outside of other ‘world code’ benders like myself.” Ms. Violet came to mind in that regard. Not that PLAYER expected Kaban would be even remotely familiar with Yukari Yakumo.

Feeling their body compile in a new place… Ah. Not Undertale. Not that PLAYER was particularly searching for one of those at the moment. They needed to clear their head a bit so they could come back at it with a fresh mind. 

Taking in their surroundings, they took a careful breath. Natural environment. Fresh air. They were somewhere outside in nature. Location unknown as nothing proved immediately recognizable. Holding up a hand, they opened one of their data windows, feeding environmental data into it. Building a profile for new locations as was habit for them.

They immediately noted this was a 'true world’ as some might put it, though to PLAYER all worlds were considered real. Which meant that what they could affect with their abilities was severely limited because it was what one might call real. Speaking of such things… someone or something was approaching them. Living being in either case. Meeting one of the locals would tell them a lot.

The little park guide was coming back to her campsite after a trip to the closest watering hole. Things so far had been pretty quiet. Another Friend had been getting a drink and she said that she’d heard Cerulean activity was a little higher than usual though. Kaban would have to be on the careful side and that meant avoiding getting lost in thought while she was on foot like she was right now. With that in mind, she noticed the rather strange seeming figure up ahead right away. Kaban doesn’t think she’s met them before since she figures she’d remember it. They didn’t seem to have ears or a tail either.  

“Ah good mourning. If you haven’t gone to the watering hole today, it wasn’t very busy when I left, it seems like a good time to grab a spot. I don’t think we’ve met before. I’m called Kaban, but i’m my species are called humans. It’s nice to meet you. That thing from a moment ago, was that some kind of technology that you use? It reminded me of something that Lucky-san can do. He’s my guide robot.” Kaban held up her arm to show PLAYER her lucky beast turned ‘smart watch’ who was currently still in sleep mode. 

“Oh? You’re a human? Greetings, Kaban. I am called PLAYER.” They took in the absolute glut of information that could be gleaned from the sentences that Kaban the human spoke to them. So much useful context in. “It... Yes, I suppose you could say it’s a type of technology.” They reach open an open a mostly blank one for Kaban to examine, the semi-translucent red screen floating before them.

“Think of it like a book made of light. All you need to do is reach out to it and think what words you want to put on it and they’ll appear.” That was a terrible oversimplification of the screens, but it was good enough for someone who might not be familiar with such a thing.This ‘Lucky-san’ that Kaban spoke of was of significant interest to Kaban, though they didn’t seem like much at the moment.

“As for myself... how to describe me... Think of me a bit like a human mind in a robot’s body.” PLAYER rubs their chin. “On second thought, that’s hardly close... ah! Are you familiar with videogames, Kaban?” That would make things very much simpler on PLAYER’s part.

Alyssa grinned, realizing one of them needed to be the one to at least keep their cool. “I will make sure you find your end..it will be here with us…with the monsters..it is what you want…what you will! Your will is strong” Alyssa let them go carefully setting them back onto their feet giving their head one last comforting pat. Seemingly it seems the human knight has some new goals. Protect the hacker…they are apart of this now. “Know I am willing to fall for you..I know its not what you want to hear but you are a monster…in your own right” Meaning one of us.. 

Seeing the gem before her Alyssa slowly reached out for it. “If you trust me with something like this-”  The moment her finger tips touched the new codding the world seemed to freeze. The Knights body shuddering like a program glitching and trying to reset. Her body fazing from a clean unharmed version of herself to a version where her armor was pierced by arrows a shattered green and red soul laying on the ground dying slowly as its life drained before them. Alyssas brown orbs cold and held death her body frozen shaking ever so slightly. The knights image changing from a living grinning Alyssa to the grim future of herself. 

A dark creature sad behind her their skeletal fingers on her shoulders gripping the red cloth around her shoulders tightly, their long fingers curling and tugging gently -almost demanding not for her to reach and grab it. 

“This…is..not- ✡⚐🕆☼ 🕈⚐☼☹👎 ”  "Not theirs to cho-ooose- ❄☟☜✋☼ ☞✌❄☜" “Not yours….” “✋❄ ✋💧 👍⚐☹👎 ☟☜☼☜”

The words were cut off the voice sounding distant and around them.Black thick ooze started to dribble from Alyssa mouth her cold eyes strained on PLAYER their free hand gripping onto their shirt, empty eyes glanced over her shoulder. 

“❄☼✡ ✌☠👎 ❄☼✡ ✌☠👎 ❄☼✡ ✌☠👎 ❄☼✡📬📬📬” “💧❄⚐🏱” “💧❄op” “Stop”

The world went black for a moment almost as if the lights went off the only light being the save fragment before the light switch turned back on, the figure behind her fading away staring directly at PLAYER before coming nothing but a voice drifting along with the howling wind.

Alyssa shook and sputtered before that nasty version of returned to the smiling weepy version.  “then you must truly trust me” She continued on with her original sentence before standing up holding it in her palms. “Amazing” She let go of Players shirt giving their shoulder a pat almost like none of that happened. But her eyes darted away a moment shaking her head. 

PLAYER gave a soft smile as they listened to Alyssa talk. While they didn’t want her dying for their sake, that wasn’t their call. As a knight, that was her choice to make in the end. Before they had a chance to formulate a response, the sudden chance in the world washed over them.

An ill feeling settled in PLAYER’s stomach as they begin to watch things play out, trying to process just what was happening. On some level they understood at least some of it. What could be the outcome for this knight they had grown attached to. 

Eyes widened, chill running down their spine, their eyes lay upon the figure before them. Terror. Terror was an emotion that PLAYER had thought long dead. Now however it rooted them in place like heavy iron weights. Frozen like a victim of sleep paralysis forced to face their innermost demons, they could only watch as the scene before them played out.

As the hand gripped their shirt, PLAYER’s heart felt like death’s own hand had closed around it like a layer of thick ice. Their gaze was hard locked on the figure behind Alyssa as they hyperventilated, on the verge of a total and complete panic attack. Nonononononononon-

And just like that it was over. Feeling themselves unlock a bit as the light returned and Alyssa returned to normal, they took several careful and deep breaths, their heart still racing. Safe. They were safe. Shaking their head a bit, they put bring their panic under control and try not to think too hard about the possible consequences of their actions. “Y-yeah. It’s probably my best work. I don’t usually create artifacts like that but... I figured i’d give it a try.”

This ex mama looked around, she understood that yes they are in a fight but in the end player was young and lonesome. Her shoulders sagged as the other began to break under the pressure of it all. The constant failure their new found human buddy low key losing their shit over the new information about this world and theirs. Setting her sword to the side, Alyssa scooped up the smaller of the two and cradled them close to their armored torso. The whole once being a mom thing kicking in, natural need to nurture over taking the need to fight and slaughter.

The two probably looked out of place, Alyssa stepped over to the side and out of sight. “This war can wait a moment” well, not really but off they go to the side like this whole thing was a big game and they needed a time out. “My past is what makes my future, it maybe a sad future or a happy one. The pain of what happened will always weight in my heart..but it molds a person to be better or worse and sometimes for the best” She brushed away any lingering tears her own welling in her brown hues, a very steady hand brushing through players iron red locks.

Alyssa inhaled nice and slow trying to be the grip between the two. Keep them steady before they broke. “I’m sorry I’m talking nonsense about your friend, that is rude of me isn’t it?” She hugged them tight enough not to crush them…they’re so small…hurt and trying so hard. It almost broke the human but it was a relief to see someone so determined to protect the monsters, Even if in a way its for their own gain and sense of being needed fulfilled. 

“This is like a book to me. The way to explain it. There’s a start, middle…and end.. you’re currently at the beginning of this book.. rewriting it so that perhaps the ending would be better, I believe you will be able make it so” Carefully Alyssa got onto one knee setting PLAYER back onto their feet, Alyssa cradling their shoulders in her hands “You’re lasting here longer because each adventure has a slow start. The story yet to be told and so with you here in the beginning you might already be changing the ending of this tale.. or I think that is whats happening here… you just kept starting the book at the ending” She rose to her full height giving Players head a pat. 

The first thing she might note about PLAYER was just how incredibly light and frail they felt despite the power flowing through them. They hesitantly hug Alyssa back, hot tears still fresh in their eyes. This... this has been a long time coming.

“I... My life wasn’t exactly the happiest before all this. I came here because I felt like I could actually make a difference. That I could fix things here rather than stew in a world where I felt powerless and would probably die before I was 20.” Given the trajectory that their life was headed on before all this, that was very likely as well. 

If someone didn’t put a hit on them for their hacking, they probably would have crossed a megacorp eventually. Not that any of that would mean much for someone like her. It would be tricky to put it into terms that would make sense for this world. Perhaps if she swapped megacorp with merchant’s guild?

That was besides the point. The both of them were having a bit of a moment here. They relaxed some at her words. “I... maybe I have.” They give a heavy sniff, wiping away their tears. “You... remind me of someone who meant a lot to me. I almost forgot their words to me.”

“Even if this timeline should reject me... I can at least give you something. Hope. With what little power I have, I can do that much.” They open one of their coding windows. “Maybe you’re right. I’m still a the start of my story and I've still got a ways to go on my path... But that doesn’t mean I can’t help you with yours.”

It seems they’ve accepted that this is a timeline they would be able to stay in... but... With some quick work, they code together an object which flickers into existence at their fingertips, and present it to Alyssa. It resembles a savepoint forged from crystallized light, but it’s something else entirely. “When the time is right, you’ll know what to do with this... and remember these words a friend once told me... There’s no such thing as limits. There’s no such thing as absolutes.” With that done, being removed from this timeline is now a matter of when, not if. Yet PLAYER feels no regrets.

She listened taking in what they had to say. Games? Players? Different realities? It didn’t make much sense to Alyssa. But what did she expect? They poured their heart and truth to her and that was all she needed to hear. With a low chuckle “Alright good enough for” she stepped forward glancing back at them a brow raising at them.

 "life isn’t meant to be easy..trust me, I-I know. But you must remember… What you change here In the past could change someone else’s future and it might not even be the person you’re trying to protect that you’re chang-“ she stopped mid sentence staring quietly at them her heart picking up with new thoughts…greedy thoughts. Squeezing her eyes shut as she turned away from Player. "Sorry I.. lost my thought there” Clearing her throat the soldier straighten out gripping her the handle of her blade tight. “I can’t speak for you…or for who this person you wish to save it.. but i wish I could do the same….go back, change my past and hope for a better future” Inhaling a shuttering breath Alyssa squared her shoulders before giving a snort.

“From what you say, it’s me who isn’t even real, so…I guess it gives me a really fucked up sense of relief…that my son isn’t really dead because he never existed” That sounded crazy, She’s had to be going crazy she has to be.Or she must already be dead and this being, this PLAYER.  Must be just a lost soul themselves leading a broken knight around a familiar battle field. Or it is all real either way all Alyssa could do now is accept this. “Have you, ever decided to stay with them? Perhaps forcing their freedom might be the reason this greater thing keeps pushing you away”

“I know... and I know I probably can’t save everyone. I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t try though.” PLAYER was given pause at considering her own desire to change her past laid out. “You know, where i’m from there’s a tale of a weapon that can give it’s wielder the chance to kill their past. If we make it through this, might not be a bad idea to seek your own ‘blade that can kill the past’. Your world’s full of so many amazing things, something like that’s bound to exist.”

PLAYER wasn’t sure if they were giving her false hope or not, but hope is still hope. And if she succeeded... all the better. In a few words, the world and fate could kiss PLAYER’s ass. They were sick of those two things hurting the people the young hacker found themselves caring about. That in mind, they froze up entirely at her next words.

“Alyssa, between the two of us I could argue that you are undoubtedly the most real one here. You have actual stakes that matter. The consequences of your actions hold real weight. Me? I can’t even die properly even if I wanted to.” They understandably don’t deign to elaborate on how they know that ‘lovely’ detail. 

“What I am or am not doesn’t invalidate your existence or your struggles. You matter. In the grand scheme of things, you matter. So don’t talk that way about yourself, because that’s my friend you’re talking about.” Tears well up in their eyes at that. “Real... not real... who the hell even CARES?!” They honestly want to throw something right now or scream until their lungs burst. If they weren’t in the middle of a battlefield, they’d even settle for hugging the human warrior until they cried themself to sleep.

“S-shit. Now i’m crying. Fuck.” They mentally slap themself for swearing so freely. Toriel would be judging them so damn hard for it. After a bit they manage to get a hold of themself, sniffing deeply as they wipe away the trailing tears and finally process Alyssa’s question. “I tried that a few times... just sitting back and letting Frisk fall and do all the stuff that would lead to the barrier breaking eventually anyways. It all went well enough for a time. Even got to see the surface... for all of 5 minutes. The world still rejected me. This is honestly the longest I've ever been up here.”

She stared, she wanted to trust this creature. The more Alyssa watched them the more and more PLAYER looked less human… unnatural. “But they’re trying to help Al” The knight scolded running a hand through her messy locks, While she covered in blood and matter and the other simply pushed by. It did not feel right. Did not feel human.  Stepping over the groaning and quiet sobbing bodies of the afraid and helpless one grabbed her leg before being kicked off. The soldier shook and trembled muttered “demon”.  Reaching to stand beside Player Alyssa shrugged. “I thought you were a mage? of sorts…you had said anyway” She put a careful hand on players shoulder “Before we continue on, what are you really? I watch you…and you move like you do not” They met eyes for a moment, brown ones searching into red ones. “Not exist somehow” it was the way their body kept glitching.  

Why did it even matter? They WANTED to help! Save those she called friend, brother! ally! Her hand slipped off the other shoulder “there are seven on them..scattered among the camps and possibly in other fights separate from this one, each having their own power, own creation of sorts…They may already know we are here may know what you are” She huffed taking a step forward giving the smaller of the two a lazy grin. “At least let me do my job, just a little bit, they will probably remove me before focusing everything on you so watch yourself” 

“Mage is... the closest analogy I could think of. What i’m able to do is less mage craft and more grabbing reality by the fringes, and pull it to my desires until it gets pissed enough to bitch slap me into the next universe.” A crass but not entirely inaccurate way to put it. PLAYER froze up however, when Alyssa touches them.

Her words rattle around in their head, another’s words echoing through their head. “Friends don’t lie to friends...” They mutter to no one in particular. With a careful but shaky breath they address the human beside them as the glitching dies down around them. “Alright... i’ll tell you everything.” 

Their expression becomes drawn as they prepare to lay everything out, hands clenching and fingers digging into their palms. “I suppose to start... i’m human. Or at least was one. I’m not sure what to call what I am now. Where I came from... this world... and so many others... from the point of view of the people there, they’re interactive stories. ‘Games’ if you will.”

PLAYER has no idea how Alyssa will take all this, but they made a promise. “I didn’t live the happiest life. But the story of this world... drew me in. I became invested... and then it ended. No matter what I did... there was always one person I couldn’t save. I suppose you could say that it... broke me, and in my desperation I did something terribly stupid. I tore my soul from my body in a desperate bid to change things.”

The reality of it all rattles them a bit, saying that out loud. “I went to sleep not knowing if i’d ever wake up... but if i’m being honest, I wasn't made for the world I left behind. Probably would have died before I was 20. That said... for some, worlds are games. People like me. We play games. We’re called players. That’s where I created my moniker. PLAYER. When I left my world behind, my past stopped mattering, and with it any significance my old name held. So I cast it away.”

“I suppose my new name is a bit ironic though. For me, games are worlds... and in this world there is a boy who deserves his happy ending. He doesn’t deserve to be shut away in the darkness of the underground, never able to experience a real future... and to die well before his time. He doesn’t deserve the world taking everything he had to give, and giving him nothing in return. Even just once, I want to give him back his stolen future... and maybe if i’m lucky i’ll be able to share in it. Find that world I finally belong in as well.”

With that laid out, they turn to Alyssa with a tired smile. The sort of worn down expression that a kid should have no right having. Just... how long have they been at this? “And... I’m sorry. I never had much in the way of friends... or a social life where I came from. Friendship doesn’t come easy for me. I need to remember to be more willing to trust in others to be able to handle themselves... that I can rely on others. It’s gonna take some doing but... I want to trust in you. That together we can win back this future for monster kind before it’s snatched away from them by the mages.”

It was the way they moved that caught Alyssas attention, with no emotion with no motivation besides the determination…they fought like a monster not like a mage or a human with magic or any kind of human. Her eyes narrowing slightly as she chewed the inside of her lip. What..are they? Not a threat or at least Alyssa hopped not.  The human trapped in PLAYERS box sweating their heart hammered within their chest so hard it felt like it was trying to choke them. “..Killing one will not end this…Killing the commander won’t end this…More will come to take his place!”

Although she could not see within the dark bullet box she called out “I hate to say it little one, fate does not change! someone will parish”Did they hear her? Even not it was all fine.. Although with her words she meant to her own end it will come regardless something has to remain the same while the rest made change. 

She would of liked to ask the underground what became of her before coming here again.  Though if she knew what then? would she of become a coward and stayed? No…the result would be the same either way. The underground bounding them.Shaking her head to rid of these thoughts the monster banded knight carried on.  

Alyssa ushered away wounded monsters after tending to them, deflecting off any human knight that tried to dust her comrades or simply remove her.Blood seeping through the thin opening of her Armour it mixing with her own blood when unable to defend off a strike. 

Even if the PLAYER held endless strength or defense the human always came back round to defend off other knights even as arrow flew into the air and to their feet her steps seeming to look unsteady, PLAYERS words and actions plagued her thoughts. “Are you…real?” She hissed between her teeth and to no one. 

“For me... some fates are made to be broken.” Distortions crackle around them as they breaks their hold on the boxes. For all PLAYER’s declarations and bravado their foes were left weakened and unable to continue battle... but to a small mercy not dead. That was left to their adversaries. Was this not enough of a rightful reason to kill then?

Like a human shaped storm she made her way across the battlefield, brushing warriors who fell upon her aside. Their blades touched her but did not leave lasting harm. A brief spray of crimson which turned to black and a brief glitched crackle across the wound before it healed up. “You can call me your ‘gun that kills the past’. Geh... that reference is probably lost on you...”

For those that can see it, their HP which is so massive it displays distorted characters rather than proper numbers, and the bar barely even dips before snapping right back up to full. A damn dirty hacker indeed... PLAYER’s condition was a mixed blessing and this was one case they were thankful for it even as sharp spikes of pain from tapping into their unstable determination lanced through their entire being.

Their course through the battlefield was set towards what seemed to be the likely candidate for enemy commander. However if one of the human mages made an appearance they immediately jumped up to being a higher priority target. “Interesting question, that. I’d like to inform you that i’m not some despair induced fantasy of hope, but that’s the first thing one of those would tell you. So let’s go with this. What can you tell me about the mages working on the human side of the war? A figment would already know about those and I don’t.” They were one of the key lynchpins to what the future would become after all. Know thy enemy.

Fear faded quietly to the pain of being ripped apart, like their soul was taken from them and twisted before thrust back in falling. ..down deeper and deeper. She made sure however to hold tight until war was mentioned dread filled her heart. So..they’re going back to the war? In all honesty for a brief moment Alyssa felt like she did not need to fight. 

Even if they lost and it the guilt in her would settle for it but at least she would of lived with them in the under ground. She’d like to know more too! Was the underground safe? Were they OK? Perhaps not happy about it but they still had each other.

“I will protect you” Alyssa promised giving their little hand a squeeze. “I shan’t let you fall to the same hands as our own” her eyes held a fire, one that knew war one that wanted to keep this little one safe. They’re probably a full grown adult she never really asked. Alyssa saw it, their eyes held a quick tinge of worry before their mask went up. Holding her sword up ready to deflect any enemy attacks. And from the sky they fell. ..well actually six feet from the ground but still! They fell. The familiar roar of battle filled her ears! Heart racing with fear,anger and determination! If she to be here then so be it! The moment they showed up she brought the PLAYER behind her and immediately went forward to strike the enemy down. “Have you ever killed anyone before?” The knight didn’t turn around the seeds that acted like a shield seeming to have most of her attention the thought of touching them seemed like a great idea but left them alone. Slowly she turned to Player. 

She didn’t have elegance when it came to striking down or bringing someone to their knees blood stained her sword and armor. using the cape she wore as a towel wiping off her face. “Allow me to handle the brutal parts of this” 

“Yes. Yes I have. Not every place I travel allows room for a pacifistic approach. If I have a rightful reason to kill...” Their smile dipped as they deflected a human sword aimed at a monster, the blade shattering against the force of PLAYER’s blow. “I won’t say no.” With the human weaponless, they were unable to halt the monster’s retaliation.

PLAYER glanced back to her. “Focus on keeping your allies safe. I have more than enough HP to handle myself. Now then... Which one of you is the commander.” PLAYER mutters, drawing on the power their LV gives them. Standard strategy game tactic. Eliminate the enemy commander and the battle is all but won.

A dark aura ignites around them as they swing their blade again, shattering through a human soldier’s shield and armor, striking their soul and pulling them into an undergrounder’s battle. Several slashes of red tore through the bullet box, though only one was enough to shatter the enemy’s soul. They had no frame of reference for this kind of attack and PLAYER’s immense LV was too much for their lv 15 soul to handle. To some, it might seem that a demon or a human mage had entered the field on the side of the monsters.

The fiery student is met with an amused smile from PLAYER at that. They hover about a foot off the ground, a pair of transparent red holo-screens of sort near them, as they flip through the information on them. They couldn’t exactly fly or anything. Hovering was something they’d patched into their existence at a young age by hacking their own personal ‘world code’… and not without consequences. 

“Right then. No world code hacking this time. I get the feeling you wouldn’t be down for dragging me to get treatment for destabilizing myself.” PLAYER’s incendiary partner might note that one of their windows was an ongoing discord chat with PLAYER’s close friend Asriel, and if rumors were to be believed also their boyfriend. His quirk? Baphomet.  A quirk granting him a vaguely goatman-like form and power to manipulate and shape a pre-existing fire source… which is probably why he was rarely seen without that antique old lantern of his, the flame in it ever burning. A lot of hero potential there, though he seemed more interested in a teaching role.

Another huff is had from the blonde, but this time it’s more out of acknowledgement than annoyance. At least they seem to understand him this time.

“Right. Well. Lemme just recap to refresh your memory.” They probably had it in that database at their fingertips, but he’s gonna talk anyway. “We’re supposed t’learn how t’work in tight quarters. That’s why we’re headed into the sewers t’find and “rescue” Kaminari from Tsuyu and Ojiro.”

“Sewers, huh.” A less mischievous and more pleasant smile meets their lips as they wave a hand over one of the screens, scrolling it. “Think i’ll download the layout for the local systems then. A map will be useful for navigation. The environment means I won’t be able to make a lot of use for my quirk’s standard function.”

Which didn’t mean they were defenseless. They could still produce a ‘hard light saber’ with relatively little consequence. Taping fingers away at air as if using an invisible keyboard, they soaked up information via the local wifi. “Sounds like we have some interesting adversaries on the table. Very direct and physical abilities. I’m guessing you’ll be front line while I play support and focus on the rescue effort?”

Of all the people he gets stuck with, it had to be them.

Katsuki shoots his partner another glare, as if that would make them disappear. No such luck of course. He then lets out a short huff and stares forward again, his hands clenching in the pockets of his costume as he continues to walk alongside them.

PLAYER had been assigned as his partner for this assignment, and honestly he isn’t sure which would have been worse in the long run: them or Deku. Both are overly heroic. Both are reckless. Both are bound to get themselves hurt to some degree.

Idiots. Both of them.

“Look,” he starts, sounding a bit annoyed even before they’ve begun. “Just don’t go runnin’ off and gettin’ yourself killed and we’ll be good. Okay?”

PLAYER gives them a sympathetic look as they processed just what she meant by those words. It was nice to hear that the stranger considered them trustworthy though. A vote of confidence was always welcome. That said…

“It’s a bit selfish if you’re doing it to save one person in particular I’d think. Ensuring everyone’s freedom is an ideal to aim for but my mission is to save Asriel from his fate for my own personal reasons. Which… ahaha… all of that won’t be too important to mention if all goes well since it won’t matter.” A nervous laugh from PLAYER. They REALLY don’t want to explain to her how Asriel died and is now the world’s angriest flower.

Wait a minute… “Ack! I mean, not personal! NOT PERSONAL! I just… er… because reasons!” PLAYER realizes pretty quickly that they might have come off sounding like they were enamored with the prince of monsters… Which they were in a way if they wanted to be honest with their heart, but they dare not admit it to themselves much less to others like her. Specifically a certain Asriel still clung to the back of their mind… but it was unlikely they’d ever cross paths again. 

Still stammering a bit, they grab her hand, before taking a few breaths to calm themselves. “Right… ok. So… what i’m going to do is anchor myself to you and then reverse what I did to bring you here. With any luck and some determination it’ll hopefully work.” With that out of the way, they get to work tinkering with the world code to accomplish this… and hold tight to her hand before running the program.

Determination burns through them as the ‘time travel’ program runs, the effects flowing and leaving them suddenly feeling incredibly confident… but also like the floor dropped out from under them and a set of lead weights are tied to their ankles. “Hang on tight, because if my calculations are correct in a few moments you’re about to see some serious shit.”

Alyssa chuckled softly giving a shrug “You had asked, friend” She held their hand gladly, she knew they were not a child but they..kind of looked like one and honestly she missed having a little one around. She pat their head and almost let go when things around started to change but held steady. “What is this?” Alyssa held the fuck onto this kids hand the feeling of falling made her gasp and bring them close, trying to protect them even though this was.. IS their doing. They didn’t explain how to do this or what was about to happen they just said help! So she was going to help. 

“I may or may not be worried”  uh Afraid actually. She knew some magic mostly healing but even then it wasn’t easy, she wasn’t good with it nor did anyone teach her to harness it. So this indeed bring fear to her heart, she could not fight it but she needed to trust them and held steady “what will happen next?” 

“Right now? I’m altering ‘world code’ for my own needs. Think of it like... rewriting the information on a page in a book... but it’s a very big book that affects everything around us. I’m telling this very big book where we’re supposed to be... or more specifically when. As for what happens next...”  Pain ripples through them as the world starts to reject their actions, though not enough to remove them from this timeline... yet.

The world around them fragments and glitches briefly before the ground seemingly shattered away from under them, dropping them into a white void. “That, would be what happens I guess! I’ve never done this before!” How reassuring. Time roars around them like a fierce storm as they fall backwards through it.

PLAYER is admittedly a bit afraid themselves. They are about to be thrust into a war, and a terrible one at that. “War... this is really going to be a kill or be killed scenario, huh. If I want to protect people. If I want to save him... i’m going to have to fight aren’t I.” There’s a tinge of bitterness to their words. Despite their considerable power, PLAYER is not someone who enjoys using it in battle. “Guess I better be ready.”

Something shifts in the surroundings around them. They’re about to be dumped out any moment now... possibly right into conflict. With a sweep of one hand, a large saber of raw determination tinged magic forms in one hand as a ring of white pellets form about the two of them like a shield. A mask of confidence is thrown up, to cover their mounting apprehension and anxiety. They really were a coward... the only think keeping them going forward was Asriel.

To say that the incubator was surprised at the state of this soul would be an understatement, this soul was a paradox.  By all accounts, it should have been impossible, yet here it was.  “This soul is truly one of a kind, it is no exaggeration to say that we have never encountered such a soul before.”

“It is surprising that such a soul could stabilize itself, all factors considered,”  Kyubey remarked as they analyzed the soul.  In truth, the witch produced by the player would be remarkably similar to one Kriemhild Gretchen, given the player’s desire to create as many happy ending as possible.  That being said, given how powerful the player was, the threat posed by that hypothetical witch would be far greater.

However, the only thing on the incubator’s mind was, what did this player do to have such a great amount of karmic destiny.  If hope and despair were trapped in an eternal equilibrium, then what miracle could have created this much despair.

“Well that must be a fun little surprise then. Like a once in a lifetime thing.” PLAYER gently reaches up and ‘plucks’ it from above, the soul seemingly shrinking to fit into their hand.

“Gotta be honest, i’m not sure how it works myself, and it’s my soul. A person I met did theorize that the amount of LV in it might have been the result of me, well... hurting myself.” They sigh as they lean back in a chair.

“I don’t mean in the physical sense. There’s not really anything physical of me to hurt in any meaningful way. But torturing myself emotionally... every timeline, every failed attempt. Save all that up and you have a lot of emotional pain. Emotional pain and anguish that can turn into LV. Usually a person with high LV becomes distant from their emotions to mitigate the pain of such a high amount. The higher the LV, the more distant they become, and the harder they are to hurt until...” PLAYER snaps their fingers and the soul vanishes.

“They’re effectively soulless and either destroy themselves or everything around them. Me? I’m different however. I don’t distance myself. My sense of identity and my soul are nearly perfectly aligned. That’s rare even for people with little to no LV. It means that my soul is able to feel things like love easier than others... and also that it’s more sensitive to hurt.” They leave the implications of that to hang in the air. That this existence with a soul so immersed in LV is constant agony for them. The fact they can even function is a small wonder. That said it also means that if they were to actually want to fight... they would be frighteningly powerful.
