maybe i’m coming off as ironic so to clarify. i genuinely and wholeheartedly love that one of the most famous shonen stories ever is unequivocally about the special magical violent obsessive soul bond relationship between 2 boys. to such a degree that it even the most hetero powerscaling fightranking dudebro fans know they are gay and the gayness can’t be removed from the story without rendering it impotent and devoid of substance

Untouchable, unbeatable, unfuckwithable. The pinnacle of all ships, the mother of all fictional relationships. The heartbreak, the yearning, the desire to understand and the misunderstanding. The fighting out of earnest beliefs. You could change both of them to girls and it would still be the same in fact it would be better. But changing just one of their genders would make the ship unbearable that’s crazy.

I feel like literally no other ship on the show comes as close nothing in the series is as focused upon, as developed on, as yearned for as the friendship between sasuke and naruto. There have been attempts there have been parallels but sasuke and naruto are sooooo intrinsically tied with the other that it’s literally impossible to imagine one without the other. There are memes that make fun of this but it just shows you how important their presence is to each other not just like textually, but on a more meta level. I seriously cannot think of a ship that comes close to like the literal decades of sns that have happened
