Aaron Tveit and Alice Ripley of Next to Normal at the 2016 Second Stage Theater Gala
"Next to Normal" 7 Year Anniversary
I am: ⬜️ Flame ⬜️ Fire ⬜️ Destruction ⬜️ Decay ⬜️ Desire ☑️ All the Above
I will never understand the people who hate Dan Goodman. I think people forget that he too lost a son, but he also lost a wife. That would be so unbelievably upsetting and frustrating to deal with and have thrown in your face every second of every day. Though Diana was clearly not there, Dan still stayed with her. He never stopped helping her and trying to comfort her to the best of his abilities. People get caught up in how he tried to empathize with her, but what else could he do in his situation? Yes, he couldn’t feel her pain, but he had experienced similar feelings of grief and loss, and was trying to connect to his wife again. Henry is the same kind of man as Dan, yet no one hates him. People get caught up in Dan’s little mistakes and forget that he always tries his best and never let go, even in a frustrating and depressing situation.
The amazing thing about Next to Normal is its ability to simultaneously destroy your emotional stability, yet satisfy an emotional need.
Times I listen to Next to Normal:
-I’m in a good place in my life and I know I can handle the pain and stress
-I’m freaking the fuck out and I’m fueling the fire
‘Marry me. Let’s have a family. I know, we’re too young but we’re not, I’m almost twenty-two and how do you know this isn’t a sign saying we belong together?’
Alice Ripley and the Arena Stage cast of Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey’s new musical Next to Normal headed into the studio Feb. 11 and 12 to record the show’s cast album.

I wish I could fly, and magically appear and disappear. I wish I could fly. I'd fly far away from here.
