i absolutely loath this idea that if youre uncomfortable with girls wearing skimpy outfits its because youre the one sexualizing children. like no, but pedophiles absolutely do, and the boys her age are definitely objectifying her too! why am i the bad guy for understanding that? like knowing there are people who do x thing so you need to be aware of it doesnt make you the person who does x thing. my mom teaching me to lock the car door immediately when i get in the car isnt because she kidnaps women, its because she knows men kidnap women and an unlocked door puts me at a higher risk

I think every feminist should have her own Scum Manifesto-esque thought experiment where she reverses the roles. And don't feel bad about it: men already do what you're just thinking of to women and more. And if you can't come up with anything, you're not being imaginative enough and/or you don't know enough about patriarchy yet.

I mentally constructed a reverse-patriarchal world where men are oppressed in the way women are, where women behave in the ways that make men afraid and self-conscious without even realising it, and where what makes men different from women is specifically used against them to enslave them on the basis of being male. Just like the world already we live in.

I also tried thinking about men in the way they think about us. The constant snide comments about being dumb and helpless, about being sexual caricatures to be degraded, about not being worthy of being seen as an authority, and choosing women's side over men's as a default.

It illuminated for me that you really have to breed a real hatred and go out of your way to cause suffering to come up with the things that patriarchy does. And you may realise that you have a lot of internalised misogyny where you're okay with women being put through something but when you imagine it done to a man, it's 'too far'.

And even if reverse-patriarchy was a thing, I'd imagine it would be for just stopping men from being the single most destructive thing to planet earth. Just subdue them enough to be decent. And they have a looooooooong list of reasons to justify why they should be curfewed and covered up and silenced, just look at millennia of history. Yet women have done nothing to deserve what men put us through, just for a power trip and pure sadism.  You could come up with all kinds of laws and religions to justify subjugating men, though whether women will ever actually take revenge on that scale is unlikely. But I think that it's essential to think about what the world would look like if we weren't the brunt of suffering, to understand how deep, sick and twisted misogyny really is.

Men are starting to push back against the whole "creepy guy in gym" thing by making videos that make fun of women who make those types of videos. Some examples I've seen are a video of a guy doing something excessive to make sure he's not directly behind/looking at a woman with the caption "when you don't wanna be labeled a creep in some woman's video" or a video of a guy about to interact with a woman but stopping after seeing her camera recording.

It's SO funny how the moment men start feeling like they're the victims and begin complaining, nobody feels the need to say "oh, not all gym girls are like this!!" or whatever. No, everyone gladly jumps on the opportunity to shit on women and validate these men who feel scared of being labeled a creep in the gym even though it's a damn near nonsensical fear? Men get scared some random woman will call them a creep and everyone is ready to completely understand why they avoid women with their phones out, but women suffer centuries of horrific oppression by every type of man you could imagine and suddenly nobody understands where distrust of men as a whole may come from.
