Monologuers! We all know the reason we do it. The words won't stop and that moment of revelation is just too delicious to let it pass.

So reblog this, I wanna see what your favorite monologue is! Feel free to add a little context.

Here's mine (Tomas and Lottie go for a horseback ride during which Lottie challenges Tomas' approach to their "relationship." This is Tomas' response. Written from Lottie POV):

My feet hit the ground but he doesn’t back up or let me go. He holds onto my waist and stares down at me with those impossible black eyes and says, “I don’t give a shit if you respect or love me or anything else for that matter. You can fear me. You can hate me for all I care. Because at the end of the day, it ends the same for me. You are mine. And whether it happens now or in five years, you will break and then even your precious stubborn will will be mine. You will eat when I want. Sleep when I want. Fuck when I want. I will invade every inch of your being and make you mine. I already own you, Lottie. You’re just too stupid to know you’ve already been beat.”

I don’t even bother to mask the hurt I’m feeling as I look back up at him, tears gathering in my eyes. “And you’re too stupid to know you haven’t actually won.”

Getting to know your Writing Style Challenge!

Oh my goodness, my friends! I am so sorry it has taken me so long to do these! It's been a crazy couple of weeks but I'm finally getting to this! Thank you so much for the tags @solarsthoughts and @lilliana-m-elrod! Okay, let's learn about my writing!

Something you use too much of in your writing: Em dashes. And I do it unapologetically. I have no publisher. No editor to irritate. In my defense, I believe I often use them properly, but even the improperly used ones are completely without remorse.

I also do entirely too much italicizing. I write slow burn. We all know it's all about that italicized Oh.

Something you use too little of in your writing: Proper punctuation. Because here's the thing. I wing it more than a little bit. Most of the time I mostly get it right, but I know that I struggle, especially with the proper punctuation for dialogue. I just don't care enough to get into the minutia of it. Is this lazy and probably really bad form? Sure. Do I care enough to change it? Absolutely not.

Something you’re good at writing: *TENSION*

Something you’re bad at writing: Transitions. When I'm in the meat of the scene, everything is good, it's great! But make me transition from one scene to the next, or heaven forbid, make me write some mundane action moving the characters from one place to the next, transitioning to the next phase of a scene... just put me out of my fucking misery. I'll spend DAYS agonizing over it when it would literally be as simple as writing, 'He guided her across the room with one hand on her elbow and another behind her back so that she couldn't beat a hasty retreat.' It's so simple! And yet so friggin hard!!!!!

Your favourite genre to write: Dark romance. I enjoy exploring the darker themes, the heightened feelings and tension. The trauma. I started writing in my early twenties to try and deal with some of my trauma. So I put my characters in impossible situations and let them fight like hell. They are the parts of me that never got to see the light of day. They get to react harshly and with anger. They get to kick and scream and cry. They fight. They lose. They break. And they rebuild. And as they do all of those things, so do I. That's fucking beautiful.

Your least favourite genre to write: I don't know that I have one. I simply love writing. One genre that I've never tried to write because I don't care it is sci-fi. My husband adores sci-fi and I don't care for it at all. I am afraid that I am a bit of a hater.

Something you use too much of in your writing: Em-dashes or run on sentences. The first is because it's fun, the second is because that's just what feels right to me. I don't even notice when I do it.

Something you use too little of in your writing: Show don't tell? I think? I'm a bit of an over-explainer.

Something you're good at writing: Angst :) Though I suppose I've been rather kind to the characters I write lately.

Something you're bad at writing: Believable romance, let alone open-door romance. I am trying though. Also finishing an idea before starting a new one.

Your favorite genre to write: Um not sure, any setting where I can have characters go through a bad time. Maybe thrillers and dramas.

Your least favorite genre to write: I think the hardest for me to write and thus not really one I go for would be historical settings. If I can find an easier way to write it, I would.

🧸 And he doesn't snap at her. Or, well, he does. But Papa is at work and Mama is spending money on a sorceress, it does take time but Lenny eases into the chaotic Upper West Side domestic scene.

🎭 Lorelai has hollow floorboards that serve as hiding spots for her comedy records. Her favorite comic is the mad divorcée from the Upper West Side, whose records she knows by heart by the time she has Rory.
