I am perhaps the Ultimate Fandom Devil. Â I must be one of those rare creatures who ACTUALLY ENJOYED S8 OF GOT. Â And was quite satisfied with the ending! (I've been meaning to write this for ages, more for completist purposes than anything else).Â
Let's Recap Things Wot Pleased Me
Mel goes out in a blaze of glory, helping with the battle. Â Doesn't get stabbed by Arya for taking bewuvvid Gendry. Dies on HER own terms. CHECK. CHECK. CHECK
None of the annoying ships live happiwy evah aftah. Â CHECK. Ha ha, Fuck SanSan.
Jaime dies with Cersei, is not “redeemed by the love of a good woman” – CHECK. CHECKÂ
Bronn lives – CHECK
Pod lives – CHECK
Sam lives - CHECK
Dany and Jon don't end up on the throne, twu wuv 4eva – CHECKITY F*CKING CHECK!
Ghost gets petted (this one only arose during S8 obviously. Legit cried at this, even with all my Jon Snow loathing)
I always knew tying up the series was going to be a bit of a stretch to be fair. I just didn't see how they'd be able to bring things together in a coherent way when GRRM is still meandering around with his Meereenese knot. And things were rushed.  So taking the “I've had my fun, that's all that matters” tack...there really wasn't anything that I HATED. It was more a case of “oh, that's a bit daft. Oh well. Never mind”. Cersei’s part in S8 was dreadful, but as above, glad she and Jaime died together.
I mean Dany wiping the shit out of KL was a bit grim and could have done with more of a build up. It's like she turned on a sixpence. Â However, on the flip side I saw people on t'internet suggesting that the series could have been extended to several more seasons, 20, 30 episodes. What the actual fuck. Â Nobody around me in RL seemed quite as angry as People on the Internet were, funnily enough.
To sum up, I'm done with GOT. It was a fun ride for most of the time. I kind of regret some of my fandom exploits, but hey nobody died. Â I now consume TV shows at the rate of knotts, give them no heed and move on. Â No fan fiction, no fan art, no character dissections, no meta. Next episode please.
do y’all remember before direct messages tumblr had a dumbass ask limit of 10 per hour and communication was impossible until they introduced dumbass fan mail and we were basically sending telegraphs back in forth trying to communicate those were…dark times
Do y'all remember when they finally gave us direct messages and instead of doing it normally, they gave it to a few people at a time and we had to infect each other with it like a virus
I was planning to watch the ep live because I had guests on Sunday night/Monday morning and wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do my usual “breakfast watch” but I had an alarm clock fail and managed to sneakily watch on my crappy portable TV. I therefore missed the vitally important STARBUCKS CUP.  (internet meltdown intensifies).
I’m writing out my thoughts on each ep completely independent of my thoughts on previous seasons.  Similarly to how I want to go back and do a rewatch right from the beginning, I’m interested to read back in the end as to how my thoughts and opinions have changed over the last few seasons, or however long ago I started these rants!
My general feeling is though that a couple of years ago I mused that I thought it might be very hard to tie things up satisfactorily. Nothing I’ve seen so far in S8 has disabused me of that feeling.  I find I’m glued to each ep, completely gripped and only afterwards do I think “Hey, ...what...how...why?”.  Very little is hanging together and I just don’t see it getting any better.
I’m still excited for an ending.  I mightn’t like it, but I’m just not invested in any of the main characters, so I feel like I’m not going to be that bothered.  Ironically Mel got a fabulous ending that no fanfic writer could ever top. Sorry not sorry!
I’m just not very interested in the books anymore.  I’m certainly not interested in GRRM’s other works.  Historical Targs are more boring than Brexit to me. And I find Brexit very very boring.
Zero fups about prophecies and the Valonqawwwwww and Fake Aegon and Nuncles and stuff I can’t even remember anyway
I would like to see what happens with Stannis’ story but even then it’s just….it’s going to take more chapters for him to die somehow?  Pray4Asha though.

Once more unto the breach.
And two more times after that:
I really loved the Winterfell guff. Â It felt like the Anti Red Wedding and so nice to people just having the craic after YEARS of misery. The drinking game was fun.
I’m really enjoying Sansa this year and I couldn’t even begrudge SanSan shippers a scene. Especially as it cr@pped all over the ship. (forever salty!)
The Lord Gendry stuff was pure cheese but yes good to Arya turning him down. Â Shippers take what you can get and run with it.. Gifsets mainly.
I cringed so much at all the Jaime and Brienne stuff.  Again for shippers, it’s probably a case of “careful what you wish for”.  I think leaving it at Jaime knighting Brienne would have been enough.  Brienne crying in the courtyard begging him to stay was DREADFUL. It’s not that “oh Brienne iz StRoNg WumMyn mUZt no cries” but it’s just ...they’ve been together for two mins/maybe a few days/weeks in show time, so it feels so rushed? I suppose we’re meant to think it’s longer as he left after news came through of Dany losing Rhaegal but wibbly wobbly timey wimey. Bryan Cogman said distances would be less of an issue this season but he obviously sits on a Throne of Lies.
Random: Enjoyed Bronn taking the Lannister boys down a peg or two.  He’s not wrong about the Great Houses...
I was absolutely STEAMING over the Ghost snub.  Awful stuff. Don’t look at me…
The second half of the episode was a real mess. Rhaegal’s death was shocking and horrible.  Dragon deaths are the only time I really feel for Dany (oh, and Jorah I guess..). On the other hand, her “about to throw a tantrum” face when Missandei was killed made me laugh.
I did feel for Grey Worm.  I know him and Missandei were not exactly popular due to the amount of airtime they took up (not that much in the grand scheme of things but I understand the sentiment). One thing I loved about Grey Worm in the last ep was the focus on this normally unflinching warrior and how even he was thinking “what the fuuuuuck” when facing the army of the dead.
I’ve been a big fan of Cersei for so long but I can’t even love to hate her these days. I’m not sure is it The Turnip (her wig, not Euron) or just the fact that she is getting nothing to do apart from smirk from a great height - windows, doors, ledges etc.  Euron is also a turnip.  Gawd I hope he doesn’t kill Cersei when he figures out he’s NOT THE DADDY. That would be a lame ass way to go.
Qyburn is always Qybueno.  I predict he’ll make it out alive.  Though my prediction about him joining the fight against the dead=not so qybueno
Speaking of people getting nothing to do DIALOGUE FOR VARYS! Rejoice! I was puzzled over why Tyrion and he were having their possibly treasonous convos in the throne room with all the nooks and crannies, but then remembered it never stopped him and Littlefinger going at it back in the days. I am so looking forward to my rewatch!
Unpopular Opinions: Fup Jaime Lannister’s Redemption Arc!  He did decent things after being fairly rotten in earlier seasons, but I’ve just never been able to buy him being apart from Cersei long term, whether it’s through love or hate. He can’t truly let go. Â
(I haven’t read the leaks going around by the way and am very much hoping to avoid them, so no idea how he and Cersei will come to an end, but I just assume they are both goners one way or another).
Not exactly shocking for me but lol at all the “oh Jawn is so beloved, people want to follow him. Wut...who are these people and can they please just stop.
I didn’t mind the cutting away from the “reveal”.  It’s been revealed so many times already. Kudos to Bran for being oh so helpful “it’s your choice”. Ha.
Once a man has seen a dragon in flight, let him stay at home and tend his garden in content, someone had written once, for this wide world has no greater wonder.
Melisandre of Asshai in 8.03, The Long Night
I’ve been ready to die for many years. If the lord was done with me, so be it, but he’s not. You’ve seen the Night King, Jon Snow. You know the Great War is still to come. You know the Army of the Dead will be upon us soon. And you know I can help you win that war.
