Dreams: Survivors Part 1
So I was taken through this portal that we all know as the portal of dreams...LOL
From where I remember, I was driving along a coastal road, on a hot summer day. and I noticed that this era isn't from where I am today....but rather sometime in the future. It had an antique feel to it, as if the future was reliving the 1930's only with modified transportation. You see, I was driving a horseless wagon...that flies, well "glide" is the correct term. I arrived at the ferry dock and I saw and heard some people conversing in their languages and some with just their hands, and to my surprise, I could understand some of their languages, both verbal and non-verbal. I caught a few glances of random strangers and we even made eye-contact for quite some time, especially the two middle aged and young women. I scanned the crowd some more before one guy looked at me for a brief second then vanished. I tried to get a better look of the guy but it was already too late.
We boarded the ferry ship and we were off to another place somewhere across the sea. Where were we going, I did not know but I had a feeling that it would be someplace quite worth the trip.
Lunch came to us in a form of a buffet, and I sat with a few people who were laughing and speaking in different tongues, yet we all understood each other. Seldom do we would hear native speakers use different tongues but they would use their own native tongues quite more often. Just then, in the middle of laughing politely, I turned my head to the stage and there he was, the man who I had gotten a glance of from before as i was driving my way through to get to the ferry. As he was singing while playing the piano, I stopped mid-laugh and stared at him, and he turned his head to look straight at me. He then gave me a wink and a nod, and continued to sing mostly while looking at me, as if he was dedicating the song to me. I blushed and coughed to clear my throat and discard my embarrassment of being caught. Another diner who sat next to me pats her hand on my arm and asked if I was okay, because she saw that I looked like I was in a trance. I assured her with a smile and a nod, saying that I was fine, just appreciating the music. i glanced at the stage again, and the crowd is giving a standing ovation. For a brief moment, I thought I saw the pianist with tears in his eyes just before he left the stage in a hurried manner. It was in the afternoon and I'm on deck, watching the waves, with no land in sight. Suddenly something did not feel right. The waters were rushing to meet us on our ship and then the weather started going bleak and clouds were billowing. Then.... BOOOM! Thunder and lightning struck at the same time, and I knew we were not going to make out of this weather alive. We felt the ship going against the waves and rocking back and forth violently, until we heard a loud slow crack as the ship starts to divide in half. Wood and metal are being strained and stretched to their limits before giving up and snapping themselves to pieces. Chaos continued to be a main distraction for our people right now. Battering winds and people screaming...The last thing I knew, I fainted. But just before I closed my eyes, I swore I saw a brunette-haired guy running towards me. I woke up, I'm floating at sea on some large piece of wood the size of a king-size bed. I got up on my elbows to witness such a disaster. Thankfully the water was warm to the touch, so no one was freezing...but I could tell there were not many survivors. I saw the ship clearly torn in half like the Titanic, except the stern half of the ship was still buoyant. I saw with my eyes one young lady who held onto the bottom level of the ship. I was about to swim to her but the tide wouldn't let me. She ran her way up the stairs, to find the bottom half of the ship is sinking and then she climbed upwards on the side of the ship to get to the upper level. The ship split horizontally and allowed her to float with the top layer of the ship. Relieved, I swam to see an middle-aged woman desperately holding on to some floating pieces of wood, we conversed for a little bit...then the waters started swelling and tossing. I looked at one wave, and the same middle-aged woman made a swim for the monster wave. Faintly ahead, I could see land; it was a big shore. I saw that the monster waves keep heading in that direction so I made a swim for it, and I reached the woman. I saw a black object shimmering in the sand...just moments before I could feel the ebb of the tide and the two of us feel a burst of energy as the monster wave pushes us and leads us to shore. As we were on that monster wave, I could see ahead and notice such a small huddled territory of people gathering around campfires. I noticed some were signing, but it wasn't American...at least. When we finally arrived at the shore, I saw the same black object again: it was a black Nikon camera lid with the white word Nikon across it. I looked around to see those same people still huddling and not even noticing we arrived...I looked back and I see the young lady riding the monster wave. Night falls and I decided to talk to the people...only to find they all use sign language. One man scowled at me for thinking that he could hear me, and then with a burst of anger, I "yell" at him in my American Sign Language...with a bit of some sign language that I learned from the people on the other land...he and everyone else noticed I understood him, and he said nothing. He shut off the fires and everyone went to sleep, except for those stranded at sea. The women were looking at me, because they saw everything that just happened. I look at them and then I hear rustling in front of me: the two german shepherd dogs. I nervously pet them, because they were growling at first but the moment my hand made contact with them, they licked it and welcomed the touch, whimpering and happily growling.
I sat down to talk to them, and they were looking at me with such expectant eyes. I stared at them and looked at the women and then looked back at the dogs, still staring at me. I asked if they could hear me and understand me. Moments passed, then suddenly I get startled as one dog barked once and the other just cocked his head. I laughed, it was silly to think that way. The barking dog came up to me and nudged me with his muzzle and started whimpering. I suspiciously looked at him while stroking the other dog and asked, "Can you hear me?" He looked straight into my eyes with his ears faced towards me. I quizzed him, "What's my name?" There's a silence...then he barked once......silence....started to pant, but for some reason I knew I had to count the pants. He panted 15 times before barking on the 16th...panted 6 times then barked on 7th, 4 times before the 5th. (A/N: he used a pattern of letter and their numerical position: "A = 1st, B = 2nd, G = 7th") Understanding what his pattern was, I shushed him and started signing to him, without even thinking he would understand my flurry of hand gestures. Amazingly he does, he whimpered after I signed to him that he's being a bit too loud and he might wake the sleeping people. He laid down and his paw covered his head as if he's embarrassed. The other dog licked my face and set his paw on my knee before resting his head on my knee. The women came to me and joined me in sitting down and we stared at the sea, reminiscing on what has happened on sea just moments before. The monster waves and the ship debris have gone, all that remained was a shimmering moonlight on such calm seas...
Warm but a cool breeze.... I woke up the next morning to the smell of a mixture of Filipino, French, and Korean food; to the sensation of a warm air; to the feel of a light bedsheet covering my lower half of my body; to something a bit uncomfortable under my head and something resting on my waist as I lay on my side. I woke up slowly to my surroundings and turned over. Laid out in front of me, with his naked chest towards me is a man. In the same tent as I am in. We're not wearing much clothes. We're sharing the blanket. I'm in the tent with another man, sharing a bed. Eyes widened, I freaked out for a bit, and scrambled to the corner of the tent, covering my torso in panic. He stirred a bit but went back to sleep immediately, sleeping on his back. Then I realized that this man looked like someone familiar; he was from the ship! But the more I studied him, the more I realized that he reminded me of someone I knew from my past. He was quite a handsome young man, around my age, with brunette locks messily about on his head, and his fair light skin with the sharp nose and prominent Adam's apple. His torso was quite defined, not lean but definitely not too buff. The sun's filtered light through the tent gave his skin a fair golden shimmer. His sleeping position made him look so carefree, with his arm outstretched and the other arm on his forehead. I noticed that I had been sleeping on his outstretched arm, for there's a faint red mark on his bicep imprinted from my head. I blushed deeply to myself, at the sight of such closeness, wondering if anything happened last night because I definitely did not remember...and then I hear a sudden flap of cloth against the wind and I see the man from last night that I "yelled at", scowling at me. ..........and that's where I woke up. LOL
