https://x.com/NolanAnalyst/status/2072683757513896162 these people are just mocking mediterraneans at this point. Christopher "i'm aiming for ReAliSm" Nolan also defended bringing in an authentic viking ship instead of a greek (Olympias!) or anything thats not northern/viking, by saying, yeah but we needed a sturdy ship capable of battling the harsh weather in the *real mediterranean mind you* sea of the story and apparently actual mediterraneans never build such ships capable of handling the *actualy dangerous and demanding* mediterranean sea/weather. Next, the Nolans will be surprised to find out greece/mediterranean has storms, nights, dusks, dawns, winters, autumns, norths, cold weather, icy mountains, fogs, thunderstorms, insane sea winds which change rapidly etc & arent the perpetualy mild vacation spots Anglos think. Also sunny esp in summer means Harsh & really bright, heatwaves, tough working conditions, etc which all together present a wide range of struggles but what do we know right. Grim, depressing, boring, empty, defeafist story thats anything but greek/mediterranean & is casted with anyone but greeks needs according visuals
Okay, the Mediterranean might not be the North Sea, but this doesn't mean that it doesn't have its adverse weather like you said. Nolan's problem is that he didn't come in winter, when the weather is stormy and dark more often and he has this image of ever dreamy Mediterranean. Of course, the true filming took place in controlled conditions anyway, it's not like he went to a massive real storm in Iceland and Scotland, got out in the open sea and started shooting! So, implying Greece and Italy didn't have the right setting for his vision just sounds like an inadequate excuse from someone who has not done their research.
The problem is that he made the environment and the sea look continuously dark and dangerous to the point that it's so boring and unappealing to the eye. In my opinion, it would in fact look more treacherous if he showed pristine, calm, beautiful waters, typical of the Mediterranean, rapidly turning into horrible storms at a god's fancy. But no he just continuously shows some very dull and ugly weather and seas.
The whole "I aim for realism" is just the biggest joke of the year.
Again, not North Sea, but we have plenty shipwrecks from multiple time periods... people don't consider how the winter can be in the Greek islands:
(full disclaimer the guy is stupid for standing there)
Also, joke's on you Nolan we can do storm with great sea colour too! HA!
This one amateur minute was prettier than all of Odyssey's trailers together.
