Random Saturday Selfie time!
Went clothes shopping this morning - originally to do costume shopping for Legally Blonde, but I got a bit depressed by what I was finding so decided to switch to holiday/summer clothes shopping instead. Went a bit overboard and bought a load of stuff (including three nice new dresses), but also decided to shake things up a little and expand my comfort zone of styles I’m comfortable with. Would never have bought those shoes a week ago, but needed them to go with the trousers once I picked them. Wasn’t wowed by them originally, but they were so light I decided to go with it, and now I’m pretty pleased with the whole ensemble put together? Call it my jungle explorer chic look. Or, I dunno, my absent minded shabby academic look.
Either way it’s not spots clothes and it’s not a too-fancy-for-the-occasion dress. It’s a change!
And both the trousers and the new jeans I got were 14s. It’s the first time I’ve worn a 14 trouser in about 3 years, which is a pain, but better to be comfy and have heat appropriate clothing than decide (like I’ve done for the last year) to ignore the weight gain until it goes back down. Still going to make a concerted effort to get back to the 12s, but at least I’ll do so in new clothes!

Update
So vanishing off the face of the earth (or tumblr) is a thing.
Life happened. Mostly work. It’s been very busy recently and all I’ve wanted to do at the weekends is pretty much nothing. This week has been insane, to the point that today being my work from home day and my manager being off, I did nothing and I’m going to do today’s work on Sunday. Because I’ve had a headache for the past 4 days and did 10.5 hours in the office every day this week. And I’m nowhere near finished what we’re doing.
But I’m on holiday now (after I finish off as much as I can and write a handover list on Sunday) until the 15th, which will be a much needed chance to get back to myself and relax!
I’ve gained about a stone in the past year. Clothes that were too big for me to wear last year are now regular clothes. I feel heavier and it’s making exercise and generally how I feel more difficult.
But I’ve also started working with a personal trainer at the gym for the past six weeks (once a week), and whilst I’m not doing enough exercise outside of that session, I’m noticeably getting stronger. I’m also doing a lot more cooking than I was a month ago. Overeating, but eating healthier things.
So I really want to use this holiday as a check-in. I know I probably won’t manage to do all of this, but my goals for the two weeks are:
Read a lot of books
Do yoga every day
Do skipping routine (need to practice for Legally Blonde in 2 months) or swimming every day
Make good, mostly healthy food choices. Snack healthily. Say no to (too many) desserts. Just because it’s Italy, doesn’t mean I need to have a pasta course with every meal. Again.
Do some writing / projects planning
Practice Italian
Sleep
I’d like to come back feeling rested and healthier than I was when I left. My back has started playing up again and it hasn’t done it this much in about a year. It only hurts when I get more unfit - move less and gain weight. Need to reverse the trend.
So yeah. Life has been sliding downhill a little mostly due to work stress and hours, but I’ve been aware it’s happening and making tiny baby steps to counter. Hopefully I can use this time off to turn some of it into more positive action.

Food prep today just brightened up my mood - so tasty and so many good smells/colours. Just what I needed to get away from a long and stressful week at work. Another one that will be made on holiday with the family over the next few weeks, won't get sick of it after I finish off the leftovers - @madeleine_shaw's smoked paprika/soy sauce/garlic fish kebabs (salmon, smoked cod, prawns) with parsnip chips. Yes I make a lot of @madeleine_shaw_'s recipes.
