they killed him for this
Is this a safe space to admit I barely even care about the romance part of Brees story or nah... Like I'm fully invested in her plot mind you i just like...don't care about the outcome of her n nick n sel. Like I would be happy but like you genuinely have to pay me to care about boys or anyone when my world is getting millie rocked as hard as Brees is constantly in the past year of her life...like I would kill them atp back OFF I have better things to do
Being in love with your with charge as kingsmage must feel so good amd torturous at the same time. He's so not over nick is he even capable of being over him?
sorry for the shitty few posts I js need to get them out they've been rotting in my drafts for awhile
Alpha Nick accidently knocks up Omega Selwyn.
Ok look. Both Nick and Selwyn's cycles have been really out of whack, ok? Everyone's been stressed, and with Selwyn's recent transformation, who even knows what the hell is happening there. And it's not like they didn't use condoms, and Selwyn's only a few missed pills away. Neither of them expected Selwyn's heat to hit right then and there, and sure, they were going at it for a while, but Merlins are known for not being able to get pregnant when they're stressed.
Guess Selwyn wasn't stressed. Selwyn is clinging to Nick's arm the next morning. His heat had ended, given that Selwyn didn't want to jump his bones the second he woke up. It rang alarm bells in Nick's head. Nick brushed it off. Cycle were fucking weird, its not like he hasn't also had a one day run before. Merlin cycles where already odd as shit, and with Sewlysn demonia, who even knew what was happening in that department.
Selwyn is tightly clinging to Nick's arm, back to his stomach, Nick's arm going fully around Selwyn, his arm crossing his stomach. Selwyn wasn't usually this tired or hazy after, but when after Selwyn woke up, he was still hazy in the bath, still stumbling at lunch. Selwyn won't let go. It's concerning, at this point. Nick went to go piss, and opened the door to Selwyn sniffling outside like a sick dog. During planning, Selwyn has no delightful ideas to suggest, until Nick gently prompts him to think about it. The second Natasia sees him, she's shooting daggers at Nick. She pulls him aside (Selwyn was coaxed into remaking his nest) and is yelling at him. How could he be so stupid? They do NOT have time to deal with a pregnancy, nevermind a merlin one! If it's anything like Natasha's pregnancy, then the pregnancy alone I'd a handful. How are they meant to move discretely when Selwyn won't stop fucking purring around Nick, or sobbing when he's away. And that's just 1st trimester.
Nick kinda just has to deal with it (with Bree and wills support, since their the only ones who actually know about selwyns omega status) becuase Selwyn is still fucking hazy as shit. chuckling at nothing, falling asleep during meetings. He tries to attack minimum 5 people per hour. According to Natasia, the haze is just his demonia trying to figure out what the hell was happening, making room for the baby. It could take a couple hours, it could take a couple weeks. Especially for a cambium as unstable as Selwyn, no one really knows.
more on the Hare vs Bunny for Nastaia vs Selwyn in terms of demihumans from another post.
more on the rabbit vs hare: As a kid, he was inclined to not just run, but to hide. The first thing he perfected were wards. Of course he got it trained out of him, but he was always hiding rather than fighting if he had the chance. His mother just ran. She used her speed as her number one strength. Rabbits are highly sociable, and that still applies to Selwyn, deep deep down.
As a kid, before the order, he was a social butterfly. Now, he hides more often or not, but he enjoys spending time with his friends, and tries to do so as subtly as possible, inserting himself in missions he doesn't need to be in. cuddling up next to Nick and Bree. offering to do things is to clear peoples calendars so they could hang out. Even his role in the order is tied to other people, and he prides himself in being able to protect everyone, as ignorant as he is.
Selwyn, much to his mothers dismay, was born blind. He made it hard to adapt. He struggled to latch or feed, completely and utterless helpless. He slowly gained his vision throughout the weeks, being able to fully see at a human level by the second week, his merlin vision setting in a couple days after that.
Selwyn was easy to 'domesticate'. He was a quick student, eager to please. Teachers still shudder at Nasasia's name. He handled stress very well, and after a couple weeks of human integration, was able to adjust nearly perfectly to their level. Natasia hated human integration. She was prone to simply walk away. She did NOT stress. While she obviously had a high stress threshold, she put her foot down more often than not, something Selwyn, something of a pushover, especially for Nick and people he worked for in the Order, doesn't relate to.
Im so Selwyn bunny pilled (part two)
As a bunny demihuman-
He's somewhere between a Holland lop and Satin. He has long, sleek ears that are usually flopped down, but are capable of popping up (Lops ears are usually too big and heavy for them to go up after awhile, but he's not fully bunny, and he is a merlin, so there are some odd exceptions)
His ears make him a hot topic ( along with js him being a bunny in general) While prey demihumans are usually frowned upon, especially in merlins, it's hard to deny that Selwyn truly is the best. For a while, the order tried to gaslight everyone into believing that he was a hare, only slightly better than a rabbit, but it didn't work because he was so obviously a domesticated bunny. (especially since his mother was a hare, the older people in the order can see the differences pretty clearly
People think he doesn't have a bunny tail- it's not rare for merlin demihumans to be missing and have duplicates for certain parts, but the truth is his people used to pull on it when he was little, so under his shirt it goes.
He does all the attributes. He stops when he's mad. He grinds his teeth when he's content. He stands at attention and he'll do a version of periscoping that's just leaning on his tiptoes for no reason when trying to find things. His nose twitches a lot - out of anxiety, out of fear, out of curiosity.
He flops over, but usually only in Nick's presence. It threw Nick off the first time, when Selwy came home and flopped on his side. Nick stared from his own bed across the room as Selwyn laid down and proceeded to lean onto his side, fully flopped down.
While his ears closely resemble a Lop/Satin mix, his hair is definitely Angora. It's soft to the touch, but even 2 days without brushing leaves it matted. Its fullness has long since vanished, given how often Selven heated hands run through and pull on them, but when everything calms down and he makes an effort to avoid the habit, his hair is fluffy as shit.
he stomps LOUD. It was always clear when Nick and Selwyn were fighting, not only could you hear Nick voice raising, you could hear the loud THUMP on the floor. especially for a melon whose footsteps are silent, it's off putting.
He goes through phantom pregnancies. He'll insist, even break down, to nick that he is pregnant (and no, it not unfounded, my hc that Selwyn at the very least has a vagina carries across ALL universe) Nick will try to comfort him, telling him there's literally no way because they haven't done it in a while, especially not with the state of...like literally everything.
I actually can’t take another reminder of the abuse Nick and Sel endured. Like imagine what they would have done to Bree. If they did that to Nick. Like I actually can’t. I genuinely get sick. What would they have done to Bree ( a 16 year old black girl). I’m ill. Like they don’t even see her as human what would they have done?
Im so Selwyn bunny pilled (part one)
As a bunny shifter -
He discovered he could bunny shift sometime after his mothers 'death'. He just felt so small and fragile, and while hiding from one of his dads drunken agents, he transformed. He was a tiny pygmy bunny, hiding underneath his bed.
He almost never shifted during Merlin school, especially after a lecture on how it was looked down upon and not to 'show off', or 'embarrass the order with his antics' but that's not to say he didn't. A netherland dwarf was his most common form to slip away from bullies.
After about a year living with Nick, he had a breakdown over his sexuality. Nick found a terrified little Angora pulling at its hair under his bed, and only found out it was Selwyn after he had gone to sleep and woke up to Selwyn asleep in the same spot the bunny was in.
His most common form is a Black satin (Havana) bunny when around strangers. He'll show up at Merlin schools just to allow distressed children to pet him (Nick brings him in as an emotional support bunny, since if a random rabbit found its way onto school grounds it would be thrown out immediately)
Nick sometimes spots a small Holland lop bunny outside of meeting rooms underneath the chair or benches. It's odd how Nick is the only one that can spot Selwyn, and it annoys the hell out of him, since he just wants to eavesdrop in peace.
With Nick, he's usually an Angora. Since his shifts are usually born out of stress, especially around Nick, he subconsciously picks the form that forces care out of Nick. Nick has to groom him, cut the mats out of his hair, murmur softly as Selwyn is brushed, and it's calming for both of them. It's not like this doesn't happen in human form, but Selwyn simply thinks too hard. There's a pressure to interact, to thank, to express something. When he's a bunny, he doesn't have to do any of that.
As an Angora, he also provides comfort. He'll loaf against Nick, letting the soft fur brush his skin as Nick drifts in and out of conscience after a bad beat up. He licks at Nick's arm as Nick cries. Coming down from a panic attack, Selwyn will climb up and loaf on Nick's chest.
He only flops down when he's around Nick. He's too scared to do it alone, the paranoia of someone finding a bunny and trying to keep him, or else, report the sighting, is too high. He doesn't relax around anyone else (minus William and Bree later on). But Nick will be doing some sort of school project, and Selwyn will lay down, completely flopped over, stomach showing. It's not unlike when Selwyn lays down when he's truly tired and around Nick.
Sometimes, he'll get stuck as a bunny. Especially if he's tired, or stressed, or anxious, or all 3 and more, it's tough to switch his brain back into the right mode. Nick has to take care of an Angora for about a week sometimes. He tells people he's a pet sitting for someone else. Selwyn will sleep in his bed, eating from Nick's hand. While this is concerning to Nick, it's also the rare time Nick will ever see him binky. Usually, humans (Merlin?) Selwyn is in control, but he'll completely give in when he gets stuck. meaning Nick gets to wake up to a happy little bunny jumping and kicking.
He violently denies all of this.
After three weeks I finally finished reading Legendborn. I really liked the cultural aspects of this book, the rootcraft thing (it reminds the afro-diasporic religions of my country, specially Bree's mediumship) , the two sides of bree's ancestry and how trauma and psychological disorders were treated.
About the love triangle, I don't feel conected with bree / nick as a couple, >for me< was too fast to sells me that was a strong love. But I like the other aspects of their relationship, them as scion/squire and the friendship that was built is something very beautiful to read. As a ship i really prefer sel/bree as a couple, even though it was a reaaally slow burn and they don't share romantic interactions in book 1, I liked how the parallels between the characters were developed and the way their relationship progresses; it made me feel a chemistry that made me ship them.
A character I hated from the start till the end was Victoria (I'm not calling her Tor, nicknames are for friends and Victoria Morgan is no friend of mine) , I hope she dies in the next books.
After some thought and consideration I have come to the conclusion that Merlin don’t operate on the same a/b/o dynamics as humans. They have their own more complex systems and dynamics that is fluid by nature. Merlin’s are more likely to exhibit traits of many secondary genders and traits that don’t align in the slightest with human dynamics and traits.
omg for sure!! I feel like they would have characterisitcs from all secondary genders, and the 'main' presenting ones humans would be betas because they don't know how to handle allat 🥹

Reading Oathbound is so fun because while Bree is having an internal turmoil about whether or not she wants to fuck Nick, he is like 'Do you remember Sel? You'll love Sel. Bree, what about Sel? Sel. Sel. Sel.'
And as a Bree/Sel/Nick truther this is highly appreciated 🥰😂
Tbh Sel and Bree are pretty similar they both are stubborn and relentless (... Insert more adjectives that describe them with words I can't think of rn)
Nick has a type
Oh god, Selwyn Kane would be THE girl dad of ALL TIME. And that little girl would be a weirdo and a freak and he’d be so proud of her.
Selwyn has a girl on my tomadachi island and she def takes after him 🥹

When I’m at a loser bisexual competition and Nick Davis shows up talking about how he just wants Bree and Sel to be happy but he doesn’t want to be excluded ( they’re both madly in love with him so much so that at times they resemble a flock of birds) . So we all agree to withdraw because nobody is going to top that.
