CHAPTER 93 SPOILERS❗❗❗
First animatic!!! They make me insane.
I cant stop thinking about how Zanka REALLY got the short end of the stick for all the match ups in the trash beast and is wayy to harsh on himself for loosing that battle
Enjin, a grown ass man, got a teenager with an undiagnosed anxiety disorder who actually thinks he is super cool. Not a single blow was ever exchanged, Enjin did nothing but yap and the kid ended up crying.
Bro got a cowboy whose just chismo and wanted to know simple things about his boss, AND the cowboy wished his son a late happy birthday. Then when they WERE gotta fight divine intervention in the form of Looney Tune style shenanigans stop them
The second shortest stick was Riyo getting paired against a electric powered user with her metal weapon who actually took her job seriously. But Riyo had that American spirit with an unregistered firearm so in the end she knew she had an out if need be.
Then Zanka.
Zanka never stood a chance, he was destined for that short straw the moment they all got taken through the portal.
All the Raiders got to choose who they were gonna fight. Since Rudo was off the menu of course there was only one option Jabber wanted
The guy who bashed his brain in 0.5 seconds after coming down from a drug high
So while everyone gets their little side quest Zanka has to deal with an obsessive, masochistic, Freddy Kruger looking guy, who injects a 3 for one drug cocktail directly into his stomach (one of which is mystery fluid not even Jabber knows)!
THEN the guy dances over his body while rapping????
What ELSE can you do man??? You upheaved an entire section of earth to throw acid on him, you broke his ribs and punched them in, you SURVIVED a 1v1 with him
me and my husband
"despite what qifrey went through you can't defend all of his actions" oh i absolutely can, watch me!
Easily Debunking the Jax ‘hit and run’ theory.
Images in order:
No car visible. Not even a shadow. It’s still pretty light out at this point. So Jax is walking right now.
Still no car visible. He’s still walking.
THEN the car shows here in this shot. Seems like he’s in the drivers seat rn.
Car again, but his is the ONLY car on this road. The smaller circle further ahead?? Not another car light.
This is the reflective side of a sign… his car lights are reflecting off of that.
There’s no evidence of a hit and run other than the ‘children’s playing’ sign. That’s the only thing, unless you also take in account of Jax’s room. But that is a BIG stretch imho regarding that bit. It is implied as of ep 5 that Jax has some insecurity of his masculinity.
jax theories poll
Do you think jax...?
killed someone
Died
Did something else (share)
After the most recent episode I instantly thought he died but other said he killed someone. Now I am curious on what you thought.
the first thing i assumed was that the flashbacks were of a younger him moving out/running away from home, i don't really think that the "he hit someone with a car" or "he's dying in a car accident" theories make much sense
This will probably piss off people on both sides of the wild “Jax was involved in a hit and run!!!” Idea but like:
I think that idea is pretty out of pocket narratively. (I think the driving scenes more fit in with the idea loneliness: and with the idea Jax that least thinks no one is waiting for him as indicated earlier in the episode).
But like… Jax absolutely would be someone who, if put in the scenario where he did accidentally hit someone with a car, would speed like hell out of there. He wouldn’t take responsibility for it if he was in such a situation.
Basically he has the kind of personality where I think he could absolutely do that: but I don’t think the story will be or has been written to have him do that as part of his backstory. There’s already enough going on and he can just be a regular asshole in a weird situation like the circus. Also it makes parts of ep 2 weirder and I’m not sure it fits.
I think he was more someone who pissed people off constantly and had no friends before the circus for a good reason. Or someone who generally lost any friends he had because of his own actions (or perhaps as suggested with Ribbit: inaction). That kind of thing. Doesn’t have to be some big singular dramatic event. He was alone, it was probably mainly or at least partly his own fault he was etc.
So yeah: I think the driving images is just about loneliness and perhaps his monotonous life even back then, the latter of which I believe Gooseworx said is a theme in the show because such a life can still have meaning.
I think the reason people are jumping to the idea is that Jax is supposed to have done something ‘unforgivable’. But like… nah.
Like, also: I think if he had killed someone in an accident he’d also perhaps be a bit more squirrely about being in the drivers seat in episode two rather than just saying “ugh the horn sucks” and making Gangle drive etc. Because while he would, like I said, absolutely be the type to run away from the responsibility of what he’s done if he was in such a scenario: I’d think he’d still be a bit like… idk traumatised over it if he had?
So no I don’t think Jax committed vehicular manslaughter.
The evidence people use to prove this theory is flimsy at best. Like, in the shot with the road signs he's not even in a car and in the one in the forest there's no indication of anyone else being on the street.
Also i completely agree that he would be a bit more traumatized and resistant to the idea of driving a car, for example in episode 4, when he goes to the parking lot, he doesn't really have any reaction to the fact that he was gonna have to drive at night, he just looked bored and tired (and maybe a bit confused by the name plate on the car)
Yeah, pretty much. He could have been working and this is just a typical scene of him after work? He’s not with friends. There’s just silence.
Maybe it wasn’t fast food like Gangle but still something similar. Something which meant he was driving roads late like he took the late shift a lot? Maybe this was basically him at least five days a week: if not more. Hell maybe he just worked in a regular office that paid fine (if he is alone: that might be his own house? Or maybe he rents and had other housemates who just didn’t like him who knows) but he could also have just worked long hours whatever it was.
Which wouldn’t help with any kind of loneliness or his chances of making new friends frankly depending on who you work with (if anyone: classic American gas station movie scenes at night might have like one person at it staring dead eyed into the horizon). If you work too far out from a regular 9-5 or work weekends a lot it can be an extra hurdle. And Jax doesn’t make things easy for anyone long term, not even himself probably even absent of something like that.
Or heck maybe Jax was even unemployed and just took night drives for something to do. If advertisement canon is a thing, given Pomni in the Jax suit perhaps he was even some failed streamer/gamer. Could be anything really.
But I feel like it’s supposed be simply a scene of his life which was so constant it was basically burned into his brain. It was no big event. There was no car accident he caused. He didn’t have an horrifically abusive family or anything either like some of his stans insist on. He just didn’t have anyone. It was just his sad little life with no big dramatic moment to point to as the reason for it and he just hated it.
i mean it's not impossible that his parents were Not That Good or that he had good reasons to cut them out of his life, some aspects of his character like his issues with constantly wanting to be in control or his toxic masculinity could have come from his relationship with them, we don't really know enough about him yet. But as you said it doesn't need to be one big dramatic event
This will probably piss off people on both sides of the wild “Jax was involved in a hit and run!!!” Idea but like:

is there any good zanka/hyo/jabber fanfiction out there? either as platonic or romantic is fine, i'm just obsessed with the idea of them as a trio rn
Destined meetings 🌠🌳
MIRRORS MENTIONED
I want to die, I NEED MORE
I feel like Riyo is the only one Zanka would let cling to him (willingly)
I’m currently listening to Kei’s live and THEY KNOW ABOUT JANKA
THEY FIND IT INTERESTING AND FUNNY
JANKA NATION WE HAVE WON
I'd like to tell you that i love seeing your zanka takes and also you are very cool to me /pos
(jokes aside, i think about that guy way too much for my own good. I'm glad people like it when i post stuff about him, especially since i'm very anxious whenever i post on socials)
Gachiakuta Theory maybe idk I'm not very smart
Zanka jinki hasn't unlocked it's full potential because Zanka isn't honest with himself or others.
A Jinki/ vital instrument is created when a person and their possession become linked to one another through soul and personal connections, called Anima.
Enjin, further explains that the more Anima a person has towards the Jinki, the more powerful it could be.
And he explains this by saying if a person has that item for a very long time then it's more likely to be stronger due to their relationship.
The best example of this being Rudo, he activated his almost immediately after being thrown out if the sphere, and it's obviously because of what his Jinki is, but also because he's had them for such along time that he's grew a personal connection to that time.
We also learn in the anime, that Amo had not had her boots for as long as anyone else in the series Jinkis', so her powers only really worked in enclosed space and it took a long time to activate which is why she did alot of yapping before her fight
As we know from Zanka's backstory, he has had his staff for very long time. Practically his entire life.
And yet when he uses it, it only transforms into a slightly more durable version of its original form.
It has no other extra qualities like any other Jinki we have seen so far. It is just a physically stronger version of his original staff, with cooler details.
And lowkey he is suffer for it.
He has to use specialised and powerful physical techniques that he's been perfecting over time to even make his jinki "useful", because without active input from him it cannot do anything.
He is effectively been fighting off trash beats and Jabber with a reinforced metal pipe with two horns on the end.
So why is his Jinki highkey sucky?
Well I think it is because he isn't honest with himself, and/or other and therefore cannot true connect with his Jinki in the ways that he should.
His whole thing is being okay with mediocracy, but we all can see he is not okay with mediocracy.
Anytime something bad happens, he immediately lies to that person and himself and states that it's fine and he's okay.
He did this in his backstory, in the anime and in the manga.
He consistently lies to himself and others even when other people know that he's lying.
And I think because he's not being completely honest with himself, he can't activate the true potential of his jinki.
We know that characters like Enjin and Riyo, haven't really vocalized where they've come from or been necessarily "honest".
But regardless of this fact they are honest to themselves. They don't necessarily hide their frustrations or anger or any emotions.
In the manga (and soon anime), Riyo becomes so frustrated with the Raiders that she decides to just shoot them instead of deal with the situation in a way that other would come to expect (even the viewers). And that is her being honest to herself.
She cannot be bothered with them. Doesn't really know how to deal with it. So she just shoots them.
And while doing so she recounts to herself that she specifically was told not to do that but he's going to do it anyway and feels bit bad about it.
We see that even if she's not that honest with others, she's at least honest to herself.
Furthermore, Rudo's jinki can also be used as a reinforcement for this point as, he is very honest about what he wants and tells everyone. He doesn't attempt to hide his feelings for a very long, and has already accepted these parts of himself..
In addition to this, Amo also becomes more honest with herself, and because of this she's able to use her jinki on a wider scale. She has developed a sense of what she wants for herself in the present and a little into the future. And because of this she is more connected to her jinki and it comes more powerful.
Even though these Jinki's are a part of the watchman series, and therefore are already powerful, there potential could not be unlocked until their Giver/users had best connected with them.
However when it comes to Zanka, he is not even close to being this honest with himself.
He gaslights himself into believing that he's okay with being mediocre, and he tells it to himself like he needs to remind himself.
However, ever time he loses he becomes more and more frustrated and begins to realize that he is not mediocre, he is just bad. And the only thing he's got going for him is his a battle IQ and his techniques.
But since he has not been very honest with himself, he's been able to become a giver but has been unable to unlock his Jinki's fullest potential.
He has put the key in the door, he just hasn't turned the key or open the door
And I theorise that once he becomes more honest with himself and what he wants for the future , that he will basically get an upgrade.
And here's the stretch bit. I think Jabber has already figured this out and this is why he thinks Zanka is 'so strong' and is a good fight.
Jabber he realised and recognised, the even without unlocking the full potential of his Jinki, he's still effective using it to an impressive degree.
In their first ever fight, he best Jabber out of battle IQ, luck and situation awareness.
In their other fights, he doesn't win but he holds up well for a guy with a sexy staff and a dream.
Jabber has already recognised his potential, and keeps wanting to fight him to see if he's unlocked his true strength.
This is what Jabber means when he says that he'll get stronger. Because, he's gonna unlock it eventually. Probably.
But this is just my stupid theory lol
MANGA SPOILERS FOR THE LATEST CHAPTERS
i think he already had his upgrade when he fought back against mymo.
At the end of chapter 155 mymo says that the secret to his strength comes from knowing and fully understanding where his jinki's power comes from (or something along those lines), and he says this in regards to rudo and the adderoy twins not being able to put a scratch on his body.
And who is the only one, up until this point at least, who has been able to inflict damage on him? Who if not the character who has been said since the beginning to have the best understanding of not only his own, but of other people's vital instruments as well
(i've also seen people pointing out that aibo is conveniently out of frame for this whole scene, hiding her possible new form)
Because of these newest chapters idk if i fully agree with your theory, bc i think that his "average joe" mentality has held him back in the past (at least to a degree) but is also what pushes him forward and IS the source of his power, the "inexhaustible flame" meaning that because of this mentality he will always strive to do better and he will keep evolving along the way
Definitely manga spoilers lol
Because you're the first person to talk about chapter 155! Where I live it's not out yet (only up to chapters 152)
And while yes I agree, his givers power can be sourced back to his desire???/readiness to be medicore, a gives powers are also amplified/"stronger" and more connected once they are more true to themselves and stand on business
And I also think, judging from the manga panel you shown, he is going to get this "upgrade" soons/is on the verge of it
As from were I'm at in the manga (chapter 152) his whole family tree and some decides to give him hell because God forbid anyone he remotely positive in his bloodline
And he was called weak for being defeated by Jabber and further being called useless
If this was 100 chapter ago, he would have "laughed it off" and been "happy" to be medicore and a threat but not necessarily a dangerous one
Now he's becoming more, and more frustrated and disappointed he's losing (as I pointed out in tm theory) and he letting it show.
Him getting back up to fight that mymo and being the only one to really land a hit is showing he's "leveling up" and getting stronger
You can see the clear frustrations and absolute anger on his face, that he typically hides from other
It's like (or what I assume) he's proving to the hell guard that he's better than medicore even if he doesn't want to admit it. But he is still working hard. And he will get stronger!
where do you read the chapters? i could give you a website where they're up to date, cause the newest chapters have been very interesting for zanka's character
