❝A little slower than the doctors would like. They say I’m making things too difficult for them.❞
Despite sinking further into the bed, Fumihide seemed completely calm about her being there. Seeing Fuyuhime was a rarity, though he wished that he was seeing her now under much better circumstances.
As for his master… Well. Hisamichi did make his demands even in his current state, but said demands were nothing more than a poorly disguised get-well-soon wish. He didn’t bother questioning it. Fumihide just did as always would: follow orders… Or so he said.
❝Which I’m sure upsets Lord Hisamichi greatly. The more difficult I am, clearly, the longer it will take for me to completely recover. So be it, I say. There… There are times where I will disobey my orders if it ensures that things stay intact, my lady. I’m sure you understand.❞
“Difficult? I can’t imagine that you of all people would ever be that way with anyone. I hope you’re not being uncooperative with the doctors - you wouldn’t want to make me tend to you myself.”
She raised a single manicured eyebrow, and although her expression remained unsmiling, a hint of humor flickered in her voice.
However, it vanished the second Hisamichi was mentioned again. It was no secret that spider’s daughter held no great love for her adopted brother - for a multitude of reasons, but least of all for the way he seemed to depend entirely on his retainer.
“Hisamichi is a child, and one that needs to learn to fend for himself. Whether he’s upset or not doesn’t matter...What does is that you heal well, and completely. I’d rather have you bedridden than dead, and men have died from less than what you went through.”

❝… Which answer will prematurely end your visit, my lady? I would hate to see you leave so soon.❞
Fumihide couldn’t count how many days it’s been. Bedridden, even when he insisted that he was fine after the incident with Kojirō. His face was still bruised terrible shades of purple–and his nose was broken during the scuffle, he later learned–while his chest needed constant bandaging for who knew how long. That in itself was an uncomfortable situation for rather obvious reasons, ones he couldn’t dare go into around the family he was sworn to protect. He sinks deeper into the bed as a precaution, covering himself up further with his blankets. Hell, he wouldn’t even allow the doctors to touch his bandages, he was that paranoid.
❝I… I haven’t been lifting a single finger, I promise. Not even when Lord Hisamichi has come to visit, as sparse as his visits are to begin with.❞
“None, as luck would have it. I’m afraid you’ll have to work harder than that to be rid of me.”
She sat down at the foot of the bed, her hands primly folding in her lap and cupping a wrapped cloth parcel there. Though two guards waited just outside the door, it hardly concerned her; her business with Fumihide was personal, nothing for them to listen in on.
“I’d be astonished if Hisamichi was still making demands of you in your current state. As much as he’s been complaining, you would think he’s been left entirely helpless...He’s not accustomed to having to help himself.”
Glancing up, her dark eyes settled on Fumihide, expression still carefully neutral. Whether her presence was welcome here or not was a mystery to her - as uncomfortable as she seemed, perhaps it was for the best to keep her visit brief.
“But he’s hardly important. Have you been healing alright?”

“...Fumihide. I trust I’m not disturbing your rest - you are resting, aren’t you?”

“Y-y-you saw me?!”
Okay, she definitively needed to find another way to sneak into the Matsunaga’s domain, because apparently she got caught everytime. Last time, it was by Hisahide’s young brother who… Ended up lecturing her during half an hour because you just don’t love in this way a man that way older than her.
The following argument had been so ridiculous, she ended up finding another path to sneak in…. And this time, the someone she happened to see ONCE AGAIN noticed her.
The young miss left the bushes, not noticing that probably she had been spotted thanks to the long tail waving above her, blinked: “… Or you heard me? Even while playing this… Pretty song? I tried to be as discreet as possible!”
Setting the instrument down on her lap, she turned to face the stranger, her face expressionless as her dark eyes roved over her. Here she’d expected someone spying on her- her brother, most likely -but a young girl was the last thing she’d anticipated.
Or perhaps she isn’t human at all, she thought, gaze following the long tail’s waving path.
“It wasn’t difficult, as much noise as you were making. Who are you? I don’t recall you being invited here.”

The plucking of biwa strings rang out in the still air of the clearing, the tune unfamiliar but calming. Though Fuyuhime knew she was no longer alone, she continued to play unheeded - until the song finally drew to a close, and she spoke without looking up from the rock she rested on.
“Show yourself. I know you’re there.”
“...Perhaps I’ll have the chance to visit Mother today. I should bring her some fresh flowers - The ones from last month are bound to have withered by now.”

“Lady Kikkawa...So you’re the daughter of Lord Motonari that I’ve heard so much about?”
“...Well, that settles it. I know precisely who’s going on house arrest today.”

[ ❖ ] :: And here he thought he was all alone. What a pleasant surprise to find a pretty girl admiring the equally pretty afternoon. “I agree. Hopefully it’ll stay sunny like this for a long while.”
“Indeed. I can only hope that things stay peaceful long enough to properly enjoy it-”
She paused, seeming to stop herself mid-thought before turning to look at the man. Her expression was carefully neutral, unsmiling, but her tone was courteous as she continued.
“...But for now, it’s a welcome change, particularly with company. Have you been here long?”
[ ❖ ] :: “Sure is a lovely afternoon.”
“It is rather nice, isn’t it?”
Stepping out of the shade, she rested her parasol on her shoulder, the thin paper canopy still casting a shadow over the pale woman.
“The past few weeks have seemed so dreary - a little sun is a welcome change.”
“I see…” The young demoness nodded. “Though, I hope to see you wearing it soon.” The sentence sounded more like an order, but it was her natural tone. While Toku didn’t have such troubles with her Father, it was somewhat abstract for her - the idea of being forbidden to dress as one pleases. About the inconveniences, she didn’t say a word. Wasn’t it obvious anyway? With her Father’s authority and contacts, there was less than zero problems with getting the kanzashi and sending it.
“I’m certain I’ll wear it next time I’m out - something so pretty has no business sitting in a drawer collecting dust.”
While Toku’s tone might have troubled others, Fuyuhime was unperturbed. The Demon’s daughter seemed to be a woman accustomed to giving orders, something that she could respect. Resting the handle of her parasol on her shoulder, she gave it a brief twirl; as necessary as it was to keep the sun off of her pale complexion, it still felt like a silly thing to be carrying.
“If I may ask, my lady, is your family well? My father’s been in a particularly foul mood lately, and I was hoping that might be the source of it.”
The distant sound of music drifted into the night sky, fading into nothingness. Far below was the source of it; a young woman, seated on the balcony outside her room as she played the biwa.
Her fingers danced across the strings, plucking out a familiar old melody while she closed her eyes. Her hair, as pale as the moonlight that illuminated her at her perch, was unbound and left to fall over her shoulders.
She hummed along as she played, the sound of her voice nothing more than a faint ghost of noise drowned beneath the strings.

“It’s not Sharing, I call it my permit to allow you to live under my many gilded roofs from a Rent that I don’t really have to pay, but it is in MY name And not any of yours. So I as the Owner am permitted to do whatever I want.”
“But if you hate it, You can always move out. Please..? Please?!”
“If I could, I’d gladly take you up on that offer. But considering the suitors aren’t exactly eager to bang down the door of an addle-brained madman to ask for his daughter’s hand, I’m afraid we’re at something of an impasse.”
“You still offer no explanation for what you were doing down here. Did we forget to check every corner for Lord Nobunaga so you could sleep soundly?”
“It is my Castle! When did you arrive?! … Need a better plan to get you married.”
“A castle that you happen to share with other people - who happen to be trying to sleep. Or was all this banging around just part of your ‘research’, you senile old fool?”
