thank you to @jynstandor for that beautiful moodboard <3
He blinks against the salty, stalwart headwinds, taking solace in their chilly, bracing touch. Cassian Andor, newly minted king of the newly minted Nine Realms (also deemed the ‘Rebel Realms’ by those still loyal to the Emperor), clutches hard to the gunwale at the bow of his beloved schooner, the RSS Ewing.
“I cannot believe you would take a paltry two-masted schooner you used to privateer with to treat with these so-called Partisans,” Cassian recalls his friend and manservant, Lord Kay Tuesso, complaining as they’d boarded the ship three days ago, departing from from the Bay of Chandrila. “At least shove off on the royal galleon, as is your right, now, being king and all, you know.” No matter how Cassian had argued that sailing into Wrea upon a war ship festooned in heraldry did not seem appropriate for a meeting of such a nature, Kay had still despaired at his king’s excessive modesty.
Kay’s low opinion of the Gerreras and their ilk certainly did not help.
Cassian stares out across the whitecaps at the brooding outline of Castle Wrea emerging from the dismal gray horizon like a gallegas. The dreary holdfast of the late Lord Gerrera is only made drearier by the felted curtain of raincloud above and the slate of the rough sea below.
The mighty and mercurial Lord Saw Gerrera… The Lion of Onderon, he had been called. Cassian had thought it a silly name, personally, even if the man had more than earned the title after his stunning victory during the battle of Onderon, well before the war that raged now. The Stubborn Mule of the East might have been a better suited moniker for his later years. Courageous almost to a fault, ferociously protective of his own, and caustically paranoid towards the end of his life, Saw Gerrera had been the subject of much rumor and ridicule. The man had once been a vital asset to the rebel cause, only to become something of a liability… before he’d retreated to his island holdfast with his armies and ships and refused every emissary and trade vessel that approached.
