Geochemist, WIP hoarder, and all around problem. She/her.
Senator Ted Cruz once described my research as "advanced neo-Marxist class warfare propaganda," and I have not had the heart to tell him the revolution is bottlenecked at sample prep.
if you told vin diesel fast and the furious you were gay he'd be like "Some people like driving stick…some people like driving automatic…what matters is you cross the finish line.." and then he'd rev up a dodge challenger and drive through a building and kill 16 people
If you asked if he was cool with trans people, he'd probably say "sometimes, aftermarket parts are the only way to get the vehicle you really want. Everyone should have the right to hot rod."
Do you have any Maggie/Negan fic recs you wouldn’t mind sharing?
Hey Anon! I love your mysterious grey skin and sunglasses, but I promise I don’t bite, so if you ever feel like it, feel free to come off anon. I promise you that my lack of impulse control, my enthusiasm for adrenaline, and my username are the scariest things about me.
& should I suddenly go feral for some reason, just treat me like a mountain lion and make eye contact, spread your arms up and out to make yourself look big, and I’ll get worried you’re a bigger, badder predator and wander away.
But yes, I’ll happily rec you some fic. <3
Heads up, I'm picky about my Negan characterization, and this is not said to shade anyone or any tastes because we need all flavors to make fandom delicious, I just want to warn you so that if you try some of these and they don't work for you that you'll understand that you're probably looking for a different flavor of Negan & I might be the wrong person to help you.
Also, heed the tags. I'm not gonna hold your hand and sleep out all the kink and violence because the authors already did that for us.
tell me you don’t feel something by sansast4rk
AO3 Summary: Negan won’t stop flirting with Maggie, and Maggie can't stop hating (or secretly liking) it.
Notes: This is the fic my beta sent me to get me into the fandom. It broke me. It remade me. I am better and worse than the woman I was before I first read it.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: “It’s the end of the fuckin’ world, Mags,” he smiles, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. She glances at his mouth, and watches him try and catch his breath too. “You like hurting me, and I really like getting hurt by you. It’s a win-win for both of us. Embrace this shit.”
bleed by crashinghelicopters
AO3 Summary: You don’t know him like I do, Maggie had told her when Annie tried to defend her husband after he had stormed out of a heated discussion between the two. Maggie’s words were little more than empty air, back then.
It wasn’t until much later that Annie would realize just how much truth clung to those words. How deeply rooted they were and how tangled and twisted those roots were, like two oaks planted too close— bound so tightly that every attempt to pull away only deepened the wound. Choking the life out of each other while being each other’s only source of survival. It would take a while for Annie to come to that realization, but as time went by, she could see glimpses of it bleeding through the cracks of the walls Negan had built.
Slowly, almost imperceptibly, but undeniably. Bleeding.
Notes: This is a canon-adjacent fic from Annie's POV and I adore it. It's a bruise, it's scar tissue, it's Annie being smarter than Negan and probably better off for it.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: The day he would say her name awake again was the day Annie met her.
“Her name,” Negan said as he walked into the room, “is Maggie .”
noise, constant noise by isoldewas
AO3 Summary: She would have thought it’d be like laying herself flat on the table, staring up at her insides, both the cadaver and the detective. Here’s your spleen. Here’s your dead mother. Both slippery.
(maggie's having panic attacks. negan's there.)
Notes: I'm fully obsessed with this canon-adjacent WIP. It reads like poetry and leaves you drunk on emotions.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: Not once did she discuss what she wanted between her legs. Maggie usually stabs him right after.
Moment's silence by Anonymous
AO3 Summary: Commonwealth is not what it seems. Exiled and with no place left to go, the remnants of The Coalition are found by a group living in a bunker underground in the same situation. They join forces against their malefactor, but things between Maggie and Negan get tight.
[Blindly based on 11b trailer. What if situation]
Notes: This is a kinda canon-adjacent fic that just utterly captivated me. Maggie gets to be angry in a way fandom rarely allows her to be and honestly, I'm fucking sat for it. I adore Maggie going fangs out and I adore Negan being whumped and fucked by her, not always in that order. This is not a love story but I love this story and want to see them enmeshed in each other in this AU. I would read 400k more words in this universe.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: His lips part and his breath gets stuck. She can feel his warmth transude from his body across the narrowing distance between them.
Then, she realizes; she would do nearly damn anything, to cage him in misery.
In cheated orgasms and punches that left bruises for weeks, in sweat and almost tears and kisses with no affection at all pouring from them. On the edge.
Maggie doesn’t lock the door this time, but in her head she does, it happens while she’s staring at his lips with nothing but the rage of hunger in her veins. He won't reach first, he won't play because if this whole exchange told her anything, is that he’s done with the games. He’s seeking something else with someone that couldn’t be her even in a poor joke, and she can’t let him. She’s stuck. He has to stick with the violence and the bitterness, far from a happy ending, like she will.
Keep Your Enemies Closer by lemon_teacake
AO3 Summary: Dead City (and beyond) exploration of a Maggie/Negan dynamic. Lots of internal conflict about the nature of the thing between them that turns to sex.
Notes: This series lives in my head, rent free. I adore everything about it. It's dark and it's angry and it's desperate and furious, all at once. Very much canon-adjacent and very much PWP.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: “Weren’t you the one who said we make a damn good team?” Maggie’s slightly breathless, lips swollen and red and damp with spit. “I’m taking you back with me.”
The way she makes him that promise, so confident and certain, the way she looks at him, like she knows him better and deeper than anyone else would dare, the way Maggie is has him by the fucking throat.
“And how can I repay you?” His voice is rough, raw want dripping off the syllables, but he’s past caring about looking weak in front of Maggie. She’s seen him worse.
What doesn't kill me (makes me) by The_Readers_Muse
AO3 Summary: "I hope you got your shitting pants on."
Notes: This is not usually the type of Negan I'm willing to read, this is early intro Negan, but holy. shit. I also don't typically read soulmate fics because they just don't do it for me and I feel like they're cheat codes more often than not, but that's not what this is. If Caro hadn't rec'd me this fic I would have skipped it LIKE A FOOL. This WIP is a love story that went fetid and wrong and two people trying to survive it. Maggie's voice for this mindset/era is honestly the best I've read short of sansast4rk's work. Negan is a piece of shit and you love to hate him, and my heart aches and aches and aches when I read this fic and this is another WIP where I would donate a lung or kidney even to just know how the author saw it ending.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: "You don't regret killing him," she hissed, thinking about the note he'd left. The one she'd tossed into the fire and immediately regretted. Yearning for just a piece of him. Something to hold. Something to keep. "Without him in the way, you think you can force this somehow. You wont. You can't. If he was still alive-"
The field around them whipped back with an eldritch wind. Sky darkening like it was trying to match their mood.
"Oh, sweetheart," Negan drawled, making it far easier to hate him as the lengthening syllables prickled the hair on the back of her neck. "If I hadn't killed him, he would have lost you anyway. That's how it works."
She didn't give him the satisfaction of telling him he was wrong. Or giving him the argument he wanted. Instead, they stood like that until the dream faded. Looking at each other like two drowning people staring at the only life jacket left. Exhausted and animally desperate.
what a wicked thing to do (make me dream of you) by constantduck
AO3 Summary: When her father is knocked off his feet by a case of the flu, Maggie returns from the city to take care of him. Unfortunately, that includes making sure Hershel's passion project, his beloved Irish pub, doesn't fall under while he is out of action. As expected, the calibre of his clientele hasn't changed much in the last dozen years.
What Maggie doesn't expect is for Greene's to be haunted by the very reason she ran away from Walkerton in the first place.
Notes: This WIP is a regular world AU which is normally hard for me to get into, but there's something about these two that feels so authentic to them and turns their beef into something that makes sense for the translation. I'm also oddly fond of Hershel & Negan's relationship in this.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: “Oh, my god. I’ve heard stories about school teachers who drive around with a glove compartment full of candy, but most of them are in jail now.”
“Funny. Might I add, it's also incredible to what lengths a man will go to satisfy his oral fixation when his mouth isn’t full of cigarettes and alcohol.”
She takes it from him, but doesn’t unwrap it. “I was wonderin’ who made the glory hole in the men’s room at Greene’s.”
“Hey, what can I say? Modern, ex-substance-abusing men such as Daryl and I gotta get our kicks somewhere.”
for a fortnight by katierosefun
AO3 Summary: “God,” he mutters, shaking his head. “You know, Maggie—you’ve always been…”
He lowers his hand, that strange twitch still playing at his mouth.
He raises his bat, and Maggie keeps her eyes open.
She hears: “You’ve always been such a pain in the ass."
[or: negan should have killed maggie upon her being discovered by the dama. things happen differently.]
Notes: This is a canon-adjacent story about mutual district and trust and a kiss that rattles them both.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: People dressed in black, their silhouettes shining through stage lights. Not car lights, but they might as well be the same. Maggie can barely make out faces.
“The Widow,” she hears. “A pleasant surprise.”
Cold fingers jerk her chin upwards, and Maggie finds herself looking into even colder eyes.
The woman holding Maggie’s chin smiles. She has thin lips.
“Your son is prettier,” she says.
Are you someone that I can give my heart to (Or just the poison that I'm drawn to) by FollowTheEcho
AO3 Summary: Maggie returns to New York to bring Negan back to The Bricks. She just won't admit exactly why she decided to risk her life to do it, however she is soon forced to confront her feelings when Rick and Michonne come to stay.
Notes: This series is a canon-adjacent fic where Negan followed her home after New York where they're learning how to balance who they are when they're just them with who they are with others. My favorite fic in this series is the third one, it's a WIP but god, it's just so good and he's so squirelly and she's so Maggie.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: “I am glad to be out of there” He says once his tune is finished, bringing her attention back “Nice to be back out here, doing what we do best”
She ignores that second half of his sentence, though it is the truth. The two of them never seem completely settled no matter where they land, both itching to explore. Instead she agrees "Think we chose a good time to head out. Things we're getting a little tense"
"Was a good enough reason to hit the road" He agrees easily.
Something about the way he says it feels amiss to her, there's just something a little too pleased about his tone, like a plan that came together perfectly and she has a feeling she knows exactly why that is.
"Did you piss Rick off on purpose so that we'd leave?" She asks incredulously.
"What you think I planned to get punched in the face just to spend time with you?"
She scoffs but doesn't reply because her answer is most definitely yes, it's ridiculous and idiotic - yet kind of sweet, it's Negan all over.
Maybe he should have gotten punched harder to knock some sense into him, she thinks - ignoring the fluttering it causes in her, that he wanted to be alone with her so much that he was willing to get hurt for it.
turned into good neighbors by katierosefun
AO3 Summary: If Maggie hated Negan so much, then she probably wouldn’t have ever brought him to the Bricks. She definitely wouldn’t have allowed him to stay for one second longer than he absolutely had to.
And if Negan hated Maggie so much, then he probably would have killed her on their way to the Bricks. He would have killed everyone, if he was anything like what Maggie tried to ground in Hershel’s head.
But instead, he’s hovering in the doorway, rubbing the back of his head and smiling at Maggie in a way that makes her scowl.
[or: maggie and negan's relationship post dead city, through hershel's eyes.]
Notes: This I love outsider POV and this canon-adjacent fic scratches that itch so well it had me sitting down to write my own version of post-canon Hershel POV.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: “You’re not my fucking dad,” he says.
There it is: the anger that’s been bubbling and boiling. The words come out in one quick, hot deflation—but they’re out there now, and Hershel can feel all the eyes on him. He can feel Maggie and Ginny staring at him, but he’s staring at Negan, who’s staring back at him with widened eyes.
“And you’re not fine,” Hershel tells his mom, his mom who’s still trying to act like nothing happened. “You haven’t been fine since—”
I, Carrion by Anonymous
AO3 Summary: After her father finds a boy to make of apprentice, eighteen-year-old Maggie Greene escapes her homeland by stowing away in the first ship to anchor at their shores.
Captain Smith is more than enraged to find a little lady on board, and most of all, knowing his crew, a little worried for her safety and the honor of his men.
Notes: This WIP only has one chapter and is a full on AU where we haven't yet met Negan, but there is something about the atmosphere that is heady and delicious and I would bleed for the author if asked.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: "You expect them to accept you?" Soon to become a keepsake, Rosita’s voice cut through the dark.
The men who had stayed behind were unloading cargo, crates filled with things that they could guess the island rarely saw. Maggie watched as the captain oversaw the operation, and maybe her imagination had always been fertile—she could already hear her name on his tongue, her feet stomping around on the dark wood and her hands flayed alive by the ropes.
She nodded at the image; "I will make them."
Forwards, beckon, rebound by Anonymous
AO3 Summary: Then there is silence. Another kind of quiet than the one of waking up to careful voices and crackling fire. Hershel wishes he stayed in the first minutes of the day, without an itchy scarf, staring through the window. Being in the middle of whatever kind of nest Maggie and Negan have tangled for themselves is different.
(Maggie, Negan, Hershel and Ginny go tree hunting.)
Notes: This is a WIP that I just adored. It leaves you on a cliffhanger, but it's the best kind of cliffhanger.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: “Maggie—” His voice cracks, hoarse and strained, but there’s despair in it. His eyes flick up to hers. He knows what’s coming.
“Shut up,” Maggie snaps, her voice tight, almost unrecognizable. “Lay back.”
Negan’s head falls back against the snow as he exhales sharply, obeys, a sound half-pain and half-protest. His chest heaves, his breath is short, shallow bursts. His hands twitch, rising as though to grab her wrist, but he lets them drop back to his sides, defeated. Maggie’s eyes don’t meet his, locked instead on the wound as she tightens the belt around his leg.
“You don’t—” Negan’s words falter, breaking into a rasp. He swallows hard, his Adam's apple bobbing before forcing the rest out. “There’s no way in hell I’m gonna survive this.”
Who said a blood-soaked path to revenge couldn’t be fun by Strixgirl
AO3 Summary: Five years ago a vicious outlaw gang, ironically name the Saviors, killed Maggie Greene's childhood sweetheart and fiance, Glenn Rhee. No one involved had ever been caught, but by some power above Maggie had been granted a chance at revenge. After a chance encounter with a charming criminal, who turned out to be a member of gang, she is recruited by the Pinkertons to infiltrate the Saviors.
But no one said a blood-soaked path to revenge couldn’t be fun.
Notes: This is a full on AU and there is something about the world building that just sucked me in and had me day dreaming about what comes next. If I wasn't such a fucking coward, I would ask the author about their blanket statement. XD
Text snippet for sampling purposes: “You already stole her daughter.”
Negan shrugged and waggled the chunk of cake near her lips. His eyes lit up with glee when Maggie bit a piece of the cake out of his hand.
The corners of his mouth turned up as he looked at her through his lashes. “And I’ll take good care of her, like I would have a stolen horse."
Through Me (The Flood) by Anonymous
AO3 Summary: Not after his death, no—she would maybe only make peace with, accept that they ever were anything other than the victim and the monster honestly and truthfully after her own last day on earth.
It is a shame, that day comes. And it's not a matter of choosing to believe anymore.
[Post-Dead City Season 1]
Notes: This is a canon-adjacent fic that is just so damn good. I can't explain to you why I love this without holding your face in my hands and screaming but a part of it is the character voice is spot on but so is the CPR.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: Opening his eyes, he initiates another round; channeling strength he doesn't have through his arms and into the body that refuses to listen to what he keeps saying. Thirty forceful compressions, violent, mad, he wants to hurt her so bad, so she'll wake up in spite just to return the damage.
The River by bootstring
AO3 Summary: Maggie and Negan bury Ginny.
Notes: So just between you, me, and the world wide web: I was initially so goddamn annoyed when I realized they made another morality pet for Negan with Ginny, which just felt like Judith/Lydia 3.0. Despite this, she had grown on me a lot by the end of S1. I actually have a WIP somewhere that's just Negan, Maggie, and Ginny traveling to Canada after S1 that is all about three people who lost three families. That being said, I got bored by her in S2, which is why I was surprised I stuck with this fic and finished it. That fact should tell you how good this fic is: I willingly spent my precious, precious downtime reading a fic that focused a lot on S2 Ginny. That's how talented the author is.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: “Where do you think you’re goin’?”
Negan’s sigh became fog in the air. The skin of his back tensed as he turned to face her. Maggie stood at the opposite end of the hallway, looking at him, her irises catching what little light filtered in—like broken glass. Sharp enough to cut. Fractured enough to show where darkness was absent.
“Couldn’t sleep,” he said, voice wounding on its way out. Like it wasn’t sound but still a weapon. He was still on stage. Eeny, meeny, miny—fuck it.
“That ain’t an answer.”
Like Real People Do by Anonymous
AO3 Summary: Another sigh rose from the bottom of him, soaked in regret—and rarely Negan had felt so dirty, so anguished while being held close by another human being. Last time had to be Lucille, both hooded by the wrong he had done and yet he fed on the way she remained.
And Maggie remained.
[Post-Dead City Season 1]
Notes: This fic is a blade tucked into your side, tickling your heart in the best and most painful way. I adored Maggie's POV in this canon-adjacent fic.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: "It's Maggie." She whispered finally, voice trembling with apprehension—if he would understand, or if he wouldn't. So many things she wanted to say... to prevent, to assure, to remediate. She settled with something simple, something that could engulf half of it all. "I made a mistake, but we're still alive."
Graceful way to put it.
Maggie swallowed again, less achy now and because of it—with a firm grip, she laced her fingers through his, feeling childish and vulnerable and uneasy once more, but no repulse came. "Now we're getting out of here together," she assured, although her breath tried to break her voice, she dug confidence from the coffin it recently made of home. "Because we make one hell of a badass team."
so close, yet so far by takost
AO3 Summary: There was something deeper in his eyes, something more intense than just the thrill of it, more than the blatant provocation. It was stronger than the impulse, stronger than the fullness of his desire that she felt coursing through her rebellious body, betraying her heart and soul. That look, almost like a prayer, stirred up feelings inside her that she didn't want to face.
Notes: In full disclosure, there is one aspect of this fic that squicked me out so I skipped some of it, but holy shit, the rest of it is so goddamn perfect. That is not a fic problem or an author problem, that's a ME problem, I want that to be crystal fucking clear. This fic is a gem. It's well written and emotionally packed and genuinely majestic in a way that I sincerely regret I couldn't always fully appreciate. On the bright side, I know others who are better, wiser, and not squicked by things I am will adore this. This fic will break your heart in new and unexpected ways. The author has such a deft handle on the characters and makes Maggie feel so real and human instead of a prop in a Negan story, which is how she can often feel imo. I love how she aches when Hershel doesn't tell her things, right alongside Negan's voice as he muses about the Headless Horseman.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: “Enough, Negan."
He grinned, thoroughly enjoying how much this pissed her off.
Any other time, he might've shut up before his fake-ass wife decided to wring his neck. But tonight something told him he wasn't getting another shot to be this damn bold before the unexpected ceasefire collapsed.
The flood of truth between them had cracked open one more door, one more shitty little corner of Maggie's world where she could tolerate him.
And Negan didn't mind, even if that corner was nothing more than a fleabag doghouse in the backyard of her majesty's estate.
He pulled her in.
Held her against him.
Felt her waist, her hips, her shoulders. Still just as familiar, just as maddeningly pliant.
Maggie didn't push him away. But the way she looked at him—like a praying mantis sizing up her mate right before biting his damn head off—that sent a thrill straight through him.
as long as you're with me, you're innocent by thefudge
AO3 Summary: If she can't forgive, he'll do it for her. (negan/maggie, a small study)
Notes: This canon-adjacent one shot is another one of those fics where I come back and read it on days I can't figure out what I'm writing. It's heady and raw, it's the flavor of Maggie that I feel some people are scared of indulging, but I adore it. I adore how small and pathetic Negan looks in her eyes but also how he might just be her only hope. It's poetry and it's pain and it's an old man who followed her into a city and her trying to figure out what to do with that.
Text snippet for sampling purposes: Lately, he's tried to look humble, modest. He's adopted a semi-paternal stance with her. He's patient and sober, waiting for her tantrums to subside. He's an old man doling out advice by the fireside.
The way he's reinvented himself makes him far more loathsome to her, perhaps because it's not a reinvention at all, perhaps because he is an old man. He contains old-fashioned, banal, hidden depths which render him just regular, not monstrous. There should have been an excess of ego and selfishness and bloodlust and cruelty, but there's just the average fight for survival and the cynical, but common top-dog philosophy of a weak man who's lost too much.
Glenn was killed by just...some fucking guy.
This was our entry to the Lego contest: a Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118 machine (like the one we have checked out from the library 25+ times), the chicken that we like to feature, and a mini quilt show.

Librarian Tony Corsentino said in a post on Mastodon:
Public libraries are the only public institution I can think of that, by letting kids open their own accounts into which no one else can pry, accord children their own civic standing. As someone who thinks all the time about the powerlessness of children, this means a lot to me.
I'm at a convention for the game of Go with a friend who is almost 84 years old, and he is constantly being accosted by elementary schoolers who want to play him because every year there is a prize for whoever plays a game with the biggest age difference between players.
People in the tags pointing out that this is a great way to get communities to interact: you are extremely correct. There were a lot of kids at this year's go congress (many of them extremely strong players) and it's very funny to watch them roving in packs looking for old people to challenge. At one point when my friends and I were sitting in one of the side rooms, a trio of elementary schoolers marched in and shouted "IS ANYONE HERE OVER FIFTY?"
Presumably so that they could compete for the Elder Slayer award:
