the thing with concussions, as I've come to find, is that they won't necessarily affect your vision in the stereotypical way. Meaning, the stupid tests they do in movies (number of fingers or the size of your pupils) are definitely not the way to diagnose a concussion.

Rather, I think you can quite easily guess if you've got a concussion if the hit was strong and the headaches doesn't stop. Personally, it was as if there was something deep inside of me that was screaming at me to stop looking at screens, or to stop moving at all, because there was something deeply wrong with my head. It screamed at me to sit down, close my eyes, and breath until all felt better. The pain was horrible, but the discomfort that ran through my body is what really convinced me of the concussion — and then, of course, the three weeks of brain fog, where I could barely sleep from the pain.

While the double vision is a symptom of concussion, I don't think most cases have it. So. Thank you, movies, for misinforming people about so many things.

the characters aren't important to the story

the main thing about this movie is the world building

you could follow anyone else in that world and i would still be fascinated

the main character doesn't even have a name. HE DOESN'T MATTER

and then he leaves at the end of the movie!!! THERE COULD HAVE BEEN COOL THINGS ABOUT HIM, but the world is already set. we don't see the world ending. we don't see how humans reacted at first. we're in the middle of the shitshow and everything is normal to them. he has gills? ok that matters for 2.5 seconds. he had a cool boat for years and was attached to it? BLAM. it's dead. get fucked. now find the earth. get attached to people. and go back to the sea, to being isolated because that's what you've always known your whole life. that's what is safe and normal to you.

i want to see more

and also, my dad showed The Postman a few days later. IT'S THE SAME THING

i like that the world doesn't revolve around the main characters. the world keeps spinning without them

I like that Waterworld is basically how real life is. Shit happens, you try things, meet new people, go somewhere, but in the end, you haven't changed. You went through this experience, but it hasn't fundamentally changed who you are. And that's okay. And maybe it'll change you in a few years, and take a few years before you realize you've changed, or want to change. Or maybe it won't change you at all and you'll simply revert back to your usual habits. That's what life is. Your life isn't important in the greater scheme of things. But who cares, you're still living it. Might as well make the most of it. You might make mistakes. But who cares. You can decide to atone for them, or not. You can run away, or linger. You can be indecisive, stall, hope for a sign to show you where to go next.

We don't live to go from point A to point B (wether those points be physical or emotional) in a strict manner. We wander and stray from whatever invisible and inexistant paths we want to plan for ourselves. And that's fine.

i need to write up a guide to image describing because it's been a while since i've seen a good one going around. augh. that'll take effort. followers if you want me to love you forever here's some low-effort things u can do in the meantime

look in the notes of a post you're reblogging to see if someone else has written an ID. [They often use these square brackets and start with 'ID:' or 'Image description:' so they're easy to spot.]

paste plaintext instead of screenshotting it, or at least copy-paste the text into alt text (click on the three dots in the bottom corner of the image, the alt text is in there)

write short and functional descriptions of easily understood pieces. you don't have to describe the aesthetics of an informational leaflet, even just transcribing the information to make it more freely available helps. 'hey guys look at my dog [id: a photo of a golden retriever lying on a couch]' <- when an image's purpose is simple that's literally all you need

This post going around again so a quick elaboration on the last point. A simple ID is leagues better than no ID because it provides context. If someone with a screenreader sees a post with an undescribed image, they have no idea what is in it. Is it fundamental to the viewer's understanding of the post (as most of them are) or is it a reaction image or aesthetic border? Is it a meme or a screenshot of an article or a painting? They have no way of knowing this, let alone the content of the image. Thus a post that goes something like 'women kissing... [ID: a screenshot of a new canon lesbian couple in some TV show]' is helpful because it tells the reader that the image isn't, eg., a gif of a cat looking sadly out the window (which would recontextualise it as a personal post about OP's yearning for gay kisses) or an illustration of two unnamed female characters kissing (presumably shared for its eroticism) but instead contextualises the post as a celebration of a new lesbian couple in a show that the reader may also be a fan of. Am I making literally any sense at all. Idk. The next few posts u see with undescribed images on your dash, I want you to try and figure out whether someone could guess What the image is based solely on the text in the body of the post. As a fun exercise. Spins in a circle yay

"making them afraid will make them more racist" that's wild to me, because we live in a whole culture of social consequences for antiracism anyway. It is literally safer to be a racist than it is to speak up against it, socially.

Idk about you, but "I'm afraid no one will want to be my friend if I'm a white supremacist" seems like a pretty logical thought process to have, and I wish THAT were the normal and not "I'm afraid my friends will hate me if I tell them they made racist jokes".

It's ironic racism comes from those that fear others. We humans are weird when it comes to the complexities of how we interact with those we see as different. It's why I believe showing kindness to others where it's most appropriate and does the most good helps far more then spreading more hate and anger to those we think deserve it. That's not to say every situation has to be met with kindness or that anger doesn't have its place, just that the end goal should be making everyone feel safe and accepted. Perhaps it's too optimistic a viewpoint, but it's one that keeps me going.
