[Statement]

there is something about the vibrant colours and the live creatures living in their habitats.can you feel the veins of leaves on the tip of your finger? let’s think about something soft like a blanket, or the feeling we get when we touch something nostalgic or familiar. does it ever feel menacing to you?

[artist research pt.2]

Anastasiia Podervianska is a Ukrainian artist that has works of tapestries more simular to my sculpture than Grayson Perry.

Her work seems random with no meaning but in reality it is not like that. sometimes the most random creations could have the most meaning.

her sculptures are all covered in fabrics and textiles like mine.

i really enjoy looking at her work :)

Grayson Perry is an artist of many media’s but what stocked me about him was his huge tapestries that tell a detailed story.

you are able to look at his tapestries for hours and always fine something new or something hidden.

my tapestry isn’t as detailed as his but i think my one kind of relates to his work due to the fact of having a meaning to myself the artist.

[the set up]

this is how i decided to display my work in the studio for my assesment. all of my work for the past 4 weeks in the sculpture and combined media discipline.

i only decided to display my best work and some of the work me and @k00283773 did together as it’s some of the most creative pieces created.

decided to experiment with printmaking and some of the fabric i had left over after sewing the huge blanket.

the green colour was chosen because of the huge blanket being mostly green and because the whole scenery of the blanket reminds me of nature.

[photoshoot w/ new frame]

did another photo shoot with the new frame and a change of scenery for a change. the outside scenery really complimented my sculpture as some of the things i sewed on reminded me of a nature like image.

the new frame wasn’t quite what i had hoped for but i still think it did the job it needed to do.

due to my frame breaking i decided to create another one where the sculpture will be able to stand on its own on the ground for my assessment.

i think this little frame/table turned out pretty good

[the back!!!!]

the back of this blanket could be an art piece by itself for sure. the vibrant colours of the embroidery thread make the black blanket look like the most midnight sky and the thread the colourful and bright stars.

[finished sewing]

i have finally did it. i finished sewing my huge blanket after 6 days and i could not be more happy. i’m so proud of this piece.

you can see that at one end- at the top, it’s more of a calm and simple and the bottom of the blanket it’s more busy and complicated. the top also has neutral  and greyscale colours where as the bottom has a more vivid and vibrant colour pallet.

[photoshoot]

did a photoshoot in Paul Tarpys studio the other day with the help of @k00286723 modelling my sculpture.

the photos came out fantastic and i was very happy with the result.

[an unfortunate situation…]

after wearing the sculpture a few times the frame i made that goes around the head started breaking and disconnecting as the hot glue and masking tape i used for  reinforcements did not work.

i will have to creat a new head frame for my sculpture in very little time but i think i’ll be able to do it :)

[testing testing..]

tested out the frame and drape blanket together today without tying them together just do see if the frame would hold.

the frame held okayish but i have a feeling it will break apart if i try to put on my sculpture again.

the fabric i used (large black one) was pretty see through so i was able to see where i was walking so i didn’t have to make holes for eyes :)

my favourite part is the top of the sculpture as it has the prettiest designs

[exhibited :3]

today we exhibited out unfinished sculptures in the college on the first floor across 1st year compture lab.

once i placed my blanket in the huge hall way it took up half of the hall way but to me it looked quite small as working in the studio on it, to me it seems big as there is no space on the studio. i was really proud to show me piece even unfinished and not put together as it made people questions what i was doing and how it’s a sculpture.

i also got a lot of compliments on my sewing and how much i’ve done in just a week. that made me happy.

[repetitive]

i repeated one of the things i sewed onto the blanket at the other end for symmetry.

these long wool/cotton fabric material was sewen onto the blanket at the very start. once i started doing the top half of the blanket i decided to repeat this particular fabric as it extends the blanket and looks pretty.

[the frame🖼️ ]

this is the frame i created from willow sticks where the large blanket will be placed on so i am able to wear my sculpture like Nick Cave wore his. i glued the willow sticks with hot glue and then wrapped the glued parts with masking tape to secure it.

this is what the back of the blanket looks like so far. the front is just as beautiful as the back and i love it.

have way through the blanket and it looks fantastic so far. it’s so big i had to stand on a table to hold it up nearly in full length. so far, im proud and happy with it
