When has selectiveness stopped an author from burning with the light of the sun?
Salutations, my name is Katelyn, and I'm an aspiring author for fantasy, mystery, thriller, and horror! My first novel that I'm working on publishing focuses on the first 3 genres, but I plan to share my practice with writing all of them here.
The concept of weirdcore characters fascinated me when I was younger, and my novel pulls from that concept to explore how characters would die based on the objects they pull inspiration from such as over-watered flowers, or electronics being electrocuted.
When it comes to this blog, I plan to have:
𖦹 Short stories, flash fiction, fan fiction, and poetry
𖦹 Character designs, and introductions
𖦹 Writing rambles
𖦹 Posts on my current WIP
Current WIPs
𖦹 Opalite Eyes Our Demise (Current)
𖦹 The Joker's Suits: the Spiraling Academy (Benched for now)
For anything I write, I'll be tagging them with #banglay's writings
Do you, by any chance, have music recommendations to listen to while reading Opalite Eyes Forever Our Demise?
Not necessarily specific songs, it can be a certain genre of music or ambiance :]
Ooh, see, I was listening to literally whatever while I was writing it ^^'
Fireplace ambiance makes sense considering the amount of fire that will be present, but it would certainly change by the chapter. The earlier chapters can be just fireplace sounds, but around Chapter 14 and later, I'd recommend instrumental classic music. Specifically, this one artist:
Enjoy
Oh, and if you have a playlist dedicated to grief and mourning, have that on the ready.
Opalite Eyes Forever Our Demise is out now! I'm officially an author (2 weeks before I'm 17 too ^^), and I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on the novel once they get the chance to read it.
Horror/Grimdark was an interesting genre duo to cover, so I look forward to applying some of those elements in my next novel once I return to it. The Joker's Suits: the Spiraling Academy's my next project, so updates on that will likely start late April (My shayla, I'm coming home).
I can’t start reading it right now, because I want to be completely free and cozy beforehand, but I will get to it as soon as I can! I’ll probably be reading one or two chapters per day (maybe more if I’m too captivated-) and use my reader side-blog @jokarlekin-the-reader for reacting :D
So yeah, don’t worry my followers, I won’t spam you about it on my art/main blog x3
I can now proudly say… "The Gentle Prince", aka Bloody Moonster Chapter 19, is officially done!
I may have to reread it once again later this year in case typos avoided my gaze or I become a better writer in the meantime, but the whole thing is finished!
I’m very proud of myself cuz’ that’s the first chapter I finish writing outside of the Prologue, but also one of the most important ones in the novel.
And I mean really important, as the words count may give away-
(Usually a novel’s chapter should be around 4000 words, but I said f*ck it for this one x])
(AND DON’T WORRY THIS CHAPTER IS JUST AN EXCEPTION, I’LL STAY AROUND 5K WORDS FOR A NORMAL CHAPTER)

Opalite Eyes Forever Our Demise eBook Pre-Order is Out!
Thank you to @author-a-holmes for suggesting that I use Reedsy for the eBook formatting ^^
The official eBook and paperback of my debut novel, Opalite Eyes Forever Our Demise, will be out March 19th, but if you'd like to preorder the eBook, you can do that now!
Order it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GSCMGTBJ
I've been able to figure out the formatting for the physical version of my novel quite easily, but the eBook is turning out significantly more tedious than expected with Kindle Create being an overall pain with both fonts and images.
Does anyone have suggested applications/advice for formatting eBook wise?
☆✧✯~ .·:*¨༺ Happy IWD! (+ my birthday too) ༻¨*:·. ~✯✧☆
Let’s take a moment to celebrate the accomplishments of all women across the globe, past and present, because gosh misogyny and gender inequality is hard, even to this day. 🫶🥹
I can only hope (and work) for a future where everyone is treated fairly, because I know we can get it, someday.
Anyway, thank you Ulysse for calling your mom on that special day (not that he doesn’t call her frequently!). Romanian Mother’s day supposed to be the first Sunday of March but I think he celebrates it on the 8th ^^
I’m sure Ariane would love to spend time with her baby boy, but oh well, my lovely Aussie queen is stuck where she is-
Aaaaand yeah it’s my birthday too! What a day to be born 😎
Not only is the cover wrap done, but so is the book!!! All I'm doing from here until the 13th is polishing the chapter graphics to work with Amazon (only using that since it's both easy, and the contract I signed for this involved me having this as my planned publishing platform.)
Planning to publish it on March 19th, but I'll be providing more info before then.
So if anyone's wondering if it's possible to start, end, edit, and publish a 100,000 word novel within 5 months, the answer's yes ^^

Warning: Panic Attack
-----------------------------------------------
Being alone in the forest in the middle of the night was already frightening, but being alone in the forest in the middle of the night with strange music coming from nowhere was much worse.
Azenor wanted to ignore it, tell herself it was just a joke, a hallucination. If she focused on anything but the music, it would go away.
Alas, apart from observing the almost complete darkness, she felt nothing: Not the grass beneath her hooves, nor the scent of the surrounding pine trees, nor the flavor of whatever food she might have eaten last.
Sight and hearing were the only things that reminded her that she was alive. And even then, it was an exageration; the low notes on the piano resonated, yes, but she saw nothing except a few glimmers here and there. No matter how hard she looked, it made no sense. Where was the moon and its fireflies?
Searching for light, she progressed through the woods to the rhythm of the melody. She was familiar with it, but could not put a name on it...
Finally, the world grew brighter, a faint but sufficient gray.
Punctuated by a pair of menacing red eyes emerging from between the branches.
Her soul of a prey reacted instantly.
Her legs moved without asking her permission, drawing breaths far too quickly so as not to faint mid-run. If that happened, she knew the growls behind her would catch up.
It was all in vain, though. With every stumble, every tree struck, every burning breath, the monster gained ground.
And ground was what lacked.
A clod of dirt fell into the void when Azenor almost ran further than the cliff floor.
Another growl echoed.
She was too scared to turn around.
Her legs, which had served her so well until then, felt as if they were rooted to the ground. Unable to take a step back, what use, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed fangs longer than her fingers and fur even blacker than the moonless night.
A hot breath caressed her nape, and without her knowing what to do, she screamed the name of the one she recognized as her best friend.
Then finally the pain came:
With classical music in the background, her own blood choked her scream.
Curtains close, light in the room.
The breath she took tore her throat apart.
All her senses were blurred.
The music had stopped, yes, the brutal beating of her heart, no. The dizziness and nausea would not go away, and yet the feeling of lying down soothed her, just as closing her eyes to escape the light did.
At last, she noticed chocolate and her name, spoken by a hoarse but comforting voice.
Gradually, she was able to distinguish the words 'safe', 'nightmare', and...
-"Breathe in and out, slowly..."
She obeyed, weak and trembling, but she obeyed. She matched her breathing to that of the person beside her, and spent long minutes imitating them, through the few tears of panic that still escaped her.
When she finally regained a semblance of calm, she opened her eyes and surrendered to the mercy of emeralds and snowflakes on red soil.
Kay looked at her with more worry than she had ever seen her express. A worry quickly replaced by relief.
-"Thank Devil, you're fine..." The musician let out with a pained laugh. "Do you want some space, yes or no?"
Never, not when Kay smelled of chocolate and, above all, looked nothing like the lycanthrope she was supposed to be. Physically human, nothing like one of those wild, bloodthirsty beasts.
Azenor, still trembling, shook her head and even approached, intrigued by the comforting scent. Her friend could not help but smile, immediately understanding the situation. From her pocket, she grabbed the treat carrying that delicious scent.
-"I took this out to comfort you with the smell, but it was just a stupid idea; it didn't do any good. Do you want it now?"
Azenor did not hear much, except for the question, which she answered by slowly extending her hand. The next second, she was nibbling at the bar, curled up in a ball, but as reassured as she could be.
-"Ah, well, it's good to bring food for you!" Amused, the werewolf sat down in a anything but feminine manner, facing the artist. "You scared me... I was too focused on my piece to notice you fell asleep... Damn, I did well to take a break when you had your nightmare."
...Piece?
Azenor looked over the werewolf's shoulder to make out the rest of the music room, immersed in a subdued atmosphere. In its center, a piano.
It came back to her. She accompanied Kay for the afternoon, each with their own occupations, namely, drawing instruments for one and practicing a certain music for the other.
And the music in question?...
-"Y-You..." Her voice was also trembling, but she managed to whisper the rest: "What did you play ?..."
"...'I Dovregubbens Hall'-" She stopped mid-explanation, on the verge of slapping herself. "'In the Hall of the Mountain King' if the translated name rings a bell?"
Not at all, but it was not surprising; she knew so much songs without ever having known their names in the first place. A smile seemed like the right answer, judging by the one Kay gave her in return.
-"Do you want me to take you to the infirmary or-"
That time, it was Azenor who cut her off with a gesture of her hand.
-"Thanks."
-"It's okay, I'll stay with you just in case, but I'm glad this is over."
Oh, she could not have said it better herself…
-----------------------------------------------
Author’s Note:
I like to imagine that, when the girls leave the room, they go straight to the nearest water fountain so Azenor can drink (that’s always a good thing to do after a panic attack) and Kay plays it like they’re in a bar, going ‘CHUG CHUG CHUG!!’ lmao-
Wait why does that line lowkey give Erno vibes.... The way my ideas bounce off of everything I see goes crazy. Ooh when I get back to The Joker's Suits, I'm finna make him experience the horror of loss three fold.
Thanks for your unintentional contribution to the suffering of my characters ^-^
🌻🍀 Hello and welcome to our second Flufftober Spring Edition 🌻🍀
SURPRISE 🥰
We've decided to bring back our Spring Edition! Just like two years ago, we would like to fill two weeks in March with as much fluff as possible 💛 for that to happen, we present you with 14 prompts, some neutral, some very much spring-themed.
How does this work? 🤩
🌻 Pretty much like our regular Flufftober event in October, so check out our Standard Blog Rules and the FAQ.
🌻 Contrary to the big event, this one only runs for two weeks!
🌻 It runs from March 9th to March 22nd, so prompt 1 is NOT supposed to be posted on March 1st, but on March 9th!
Below the cut, you'll find more information and all the prompts in writing. Please read those carefully, but if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to send us asks 🥰
Friends, once again, we hope you'll show our Spring Event a lot of love. May the prompts inspire you to some fluffy creations.
We wish you a great start to the New Year, and as always
Happy Creating 🥳
Are there any Prompt Extras? 👀
🌻 No, sorry. Since this is a smaller prompt list, you won't find any official prompt extras.
🌻 However, if you really have an issue with one of the prompts, pick your favorite flower and use that as the prompt 😉 but still mention/tag the day you're using it for.
What's the tag to get reblogged? ✍️
🌻 The tag is #fluffspring2026
Make sure there is NO SPACE between fluff and spring and 2026! We will NOT be checking other variations of this tag!
🌻 It's also good to mention us: @flufftober
🌻 We try to reblog regularly, but tumblr likes to be difficult and wonky. If you're absolutely certain a post has slipped past us, please send us an ask with the link to your post.
🌻 Please make sure that all info is easy to find, either in the post or the tags. It costs us a lot of time and energy if we have to research for every other post. So, please make sure to at least include the following very clearly:
🌸 the day/prompt
🌸 the fandom(s) (add "original work" or similar if applicable)
🌸 the characters and/or ship(s) (add "oc" or similar if applicable)
What about the ao3 collection? 📝
🌻 The collection's name is Fluff Spring Edition 2026 (fluff_spring_edition_2026)
🌻 Our collections will never close, so you can always add any late entries.
Deadlines are my nemesis 🥹
Don't worry, late entries are always welcome!
🌻 Reblogs will become less regular after the event has ended.
🌻 We will stop checking the event tag after a few months, so please make sure to tag us: @flufftober
Writing villains people actually fear (and remember)
It’s not about darkness. It’s about a precise use of habits and small things, their behaviour both when acting the villain and not.
1. Give them a contradiction.
Villains are scariest when they’re almost human. It's alot harder to harm, or even kill, when you can the part of them that is kind.
“He always apologised before hurting someone.”
2. Let them think they’re right.
No moustache twirling ('mustache twirling villain' is often used as a pejorative to describe poor antagonists/bad guys, usually they in comedy) — just conviction. Their ideals and values should stem from something important to them. Doesn't have to be important or make to others, just them.
“I’m not saving the world. I’m correcting it.”
3. Give them a normal habit that becomes unsettling.
• humming off-key
• straightening objects mid-argument
• collecting people’s abandoned pens (this was something I got from primary school where I watched someone collect them and i thought it was evil they were stealing pens😭)
4. Make their kindness selective.
Kind to dogs. Cruel to friends.
Kind to children. Absent to their own.
This really adds to their character and backstory, even if you don't elaborate or tell it.
5. Make their presence change a room.
Not with theatrics — with tone.
“The laughter thinned when he stepped inside.”
Making antagonists who aren’t evil (but still hurt you emotionally)
Some of the best antagonists are just… people.
1. Give them the same goal as the hero — different methods.
Hero wants peace.
Antagonist wants peace.
Hero uses unity; antagonist uses control.
2. Let the antagonist be right sometimes.
That stings.
3. Make the hero almost agree with them.
“You’re not wrong,” she admitted. “But you’re not right either.”
4. Show glimpses of softness.
“He tucked the child’s drawing into his coat.”
5. Let them break their own rules.
Instant complexity, villains change the rules to fit their momentary desires and whims.
(Edit: ive written this up from a book that ive been filling with writing tips and tricks from classes, im putting here a few pages from it
So I get it, I need to change how I format things 😭)
Ive also read "Read This If You Want to Be a Great Writer" a book by Ross Raisin
@jokarlekin Heard 🫡 I threw the same distortion in for the same reasons btw
Absolutely love what my friend, Brianna, made for The Joker's Suits: the Spiraling Academy
Ever since I started doing horror for Opalite Eyes, the idea of adding more horror into The Joker's Suits has been more tempting, so all the sillies you saw in my writetober fics might just go through even more in the fourth and final draft.
