To streamline the application process, I will be creating blog-specific applications rather than a large, unspecific application. Each of these applications will hopefully take about an hour to complete and will have the same basic demographic questions as the first application, as well as questions specific to the topics at hand. This will make it easier to get moderators, as well as to start blogs on certain topics.

UPDATE: Design Changes + KAE-NDN and KAE-FeministTheory to be first blogs! (Apply by May 20 for consideration)

Firstly, I’d like to thank the 30+ followers this blog has received so far. I do hope that this community will grow larger within the next few months and I greatly appreciate every follow, like, and reblog that you all give to these posts, as they do help in spreading awareness and garnering more applications to the program. So far I’ve had three applicants, and I am hoping to pick up steam over the next month. 

With that out of the way, it is with great pride that I announce that KAE-NDN and KAE-FeministTheory should be up and running by early June! I have been sending out personal invitations to apply to the program and have gotten a small amount of positive responses; at this rate I expect to have teams for both of these blogs at the minimum threshold of 3 moderators by May 30. 

KAE-NDN* will address Native/NDN issues, history, and strive to be inclusive of as many of the Native cultures as possible. As of now, all people being asked to apply for this blog are NDN/Native and I hope it will remain that way. If you would like to apply to the KAE-NDN blog, please fill out the application by May 20; specify your interest in the NDN blog in the additional comments section. 

KAE-FeministTheory will address and inform users on as wide a range of feminist theory as possible, including first, second, and third wave feminism, Marxist feminism, and so on and so forth. While the moderators will get to choose how they divide up the discussion, it will most likely be by era and/or “sect” for easiest navigation. If you would like to apply to the KAE-FeministTheory blog, please fill out the application by May 20; specify your interest in the FeministTheory blog in the additional comments section. 

*The moderators will be able to choose a different URL should KAE-NDN not fit their chosen approach. I am aware that different groups identify with different terms, and I have chosen “NDN” as a starting point as it is more neutral in terms of connotation as compared to ‘American Indian’ or ‘Indigenous’. 

I am currently designing a custom theme, alongside two other users, which will be used across the KAE blogs, which should be installed by late April / mid-May depending on my time constraints. This theme will be entered into the ThemeGarden after it has been revised and made more functional, and is aimed to be as straight-forward and customizable as possible.

So long as you are willing to provide information to people from creditable or relevant sources, you can apply to be a moderator. Those with professional qualifications are welcome, but these are not requirements.

Do I have to be a “social justice warrior” or an “anti-social justice warrior” to become a moderator?

No! These blogs are meant to provide information which will be presented objectively to spread education and awareness among the Tumblr blogosphere. While you will be welcome to give your commentary on different subjects, these posts will not be the main focus of the blog and they will have a specific tag to differentiate them from main posts. 

People of all ideologies are welcome, provided that these ideologies do not inherently affect your ability to present information—if you solely provide an SJW/anti-SJW, feminist/anti-feminist, MRA/anti-MRA, or other view and are unable to focus on the objective presentation of facts related to a topic, you will not make a good moderator.

What if I’m interested in less social justice issues and am more interested in things like Cooking or Writing?

You should apply! These blogs are going to cover any topics which moderators are interested in sharing about, and that includes ‘non-serious’ topics like cooking and writing. If you want to share it, apply! You can invite people you know who are interested in these efforts to do the same to ensure that there are enough moderators to start a blog on a particular topic—you must have at least three qualified candidates in order for a blog to be created. 

How long will the application be?

I have written this application myself, and all together it should take about an hour to complete. However, there is a mini-survey on the last page in which you can tell me how long it took you to complete, how difficult it was, and so on; based on this feedback I will alter the application to be more manageable.

Introducing Know About Everything reference blogs, an Informative Tumblr project. 

Know About Everything, to be abbreviated as KAE, encompasses a group of blogs that I am in the process of creating which will focus on different topics and subjects. The purpose of the blogs will be to provide fully-cited educational references and resources for Tumblr users on an array of subjects and topics, including social justice issues, education, science, and life skills, to promote intelligent discussion and the spread of information.

How will KAE work? 

Every KAE blog will have a URL which is in “KAE-(keyword)” format, where (keyword) will signify the topic of that specific blog. Each blog will only reblog and post information related to the designated topic of the blog. No “fluff” materials or posts will be tolerated, so if you’re following KAE-socialjustice, for example, all you will see is posts related to social justice issues.

Each blog will have a tagging system which will make it as easy as possible to find specific types of information, including infographics, quotes, reference material (such as books or websites), and so on and so forth. While the tagging systems may differ by blog, each will be clearly explained on a “Tagging System” page on each blog.

The root blog, KnowAboutEverything, will focus on user submissions, asks, and posts regarding events or hiatus’ within the KAE network of blogs. While these submissions types are still being determined and will be influenced by audience participation, they will primarily deal with venting or asking for advice, sharing fun facts, and learning more about the KAE project and helping it develop.

Who will run the blogs? 

Each blog will have at least 3 moderators, excluding the main owner (terarroni), who will be taken on a volunteer basis, chosen by applications (included below) to determine their qualifications. Each moderator will be assigned to a blog where they have more experience to ensure that everyone is in a place where they can succeed. 

Moderators will be required to include citations, references, and other information in every post they make to ensure followers are met with the best quality content. While this may mean that posts may not be as rapid-fire as with certain other blog types, it does mean that the KAE blogs will feature only the most educated, informational, and helpful content possible for each subject. In the event that a post is found to be outdated, incorrect, or otherwise in need of alteration, each blog will have a system of “reporting” these links to the moderators to bring it to their attention. 

Each blog will also have a Lead Moderator / Administrator who will be responsible for overlooking blog progress, ensuring that the moderation team is working together in a functional way, and will be primarily in charge of relaying critical information between moderators, the owner, and the followers. 

Will the KAE Network accept pre-existing blogs with similar goals? 

Yes! While this may come later in the development stages, there will be a process put in place for blogs that are not KAE-related to join the KAE Network on a regular evaluation condition. Blogs will have to be full of information, regardless of topic, and will need to have consistent quality content in order to be accepted into the KAE Network. Official rules and requirements will be determined at a later time.

How can I help?

If you want to apply to be a moderator, please access and complete this application, hosted through Google Forms. This will be a large project and will most likely not be “on air” until the late summer (around early August) but I will need time to screen and select moderators, as well as organize the blogs, so the sooner you apply the better. 

If you are experienced with HTML/CSS and are interested in helping design the blogs, please contact me through an ask message. Please be aware that I have no means of compensating you for your assistance at this time, though you will receive credit for your work as well as a link-through from each blog. If the blogs become profitable in the future (through ad revenue or donations), you will most definitely be receiving a portion of that money, but for the time being all I can really offer is personal favors and exposure.
