Drinks? Yes. It’s been too long since I had a drink. Since yesterday. Well….early morning of today.
Well, there's no better way to stave off a hangover than to have another drink.

Considering the week I’ve had, drinks sound fantastic right now.
Great! I mean— great that you could use a drink...not great that your week was shitty.
I'm one year closer to figuring out what I have to do with my life. But in the meantime— who wants to join me for drinks?

B A C K G R O U N D
From the moment that Kai Leroux drew his first breath, his parents knew his days were numbered. He was a sickly baby, with sallow skin and a weak cry. The first few weeks of his life were spent in the NICU, his parents watching him through a glass and praying every night that their only child would overcome whatever sickness that ailed him. This would set the tone for the next few years of Kai’s life.
He was born Kai Borde, the son of two botanists living in the heart of Winterthur, in a small community where everyone knew everyone and secrets were impossible to keep. So when word got out that Celia and Marceau Borde would undoubtedly be burying a child just a few months after its birth, they were met with pitying gazes and solemn stares everywhere they went. Kai’s first birthday party was a grand celebration, for nobody had expected him to live so long. He grew to be a very delicate boy, reaching developmental milestones slower than other children his age. His first wobbly steps were taken just before two years old, and his first word— “sorry” blubbered in panic after knocking over one of his father’s vials of antidote— came around the age of three.
Kai became known as the cursed child, the boy with the demon on his back— he was clumsy, prone to bouts of illness and disaster that followed wherever he went. Most of his days were spent in the back room of his parents’ apothecary, homeschooled by his mother. He was sick too frequently to attend the local school, and far behind the other students. The parents in the community had made it clear that they did not want their children around Kai, evident in the way that they called them home whenever he came to join in one of their games.
Three months after his seventh birthday, Kai fell ill again. The doctor’s medicine was no more effective than his parents’ herbal remedies, and it seemed that Marceau and Celia were mourning their son before he had even passed. They had exhausted all their efforts and had resolved to simply make Kai’s last days as comfortable for him as possible— that is, until they met Odette Leroux. She was an oddball in the community. The Leroux’s had moved into the large, dilapidated house at the edge of the forest in the year 1986, though nobody ever seemed to have more than a few words to say about them. It was always the same story, mostly speculation sprinkled with bits of fact— Odette Leroux and her daughter, Geneva, were the lone survivors of a house fire that killed her husband and a few members of her extended family. They kept to themselves, never attending church on Sundays and the girl being homeschooled by a private tutor. Odette was the type of person that people averted their eyes from and crowds parted to make way for, and the community ostracized her and her daughter every bit as much as they did to Kai.
Odette told Celia and Marceau what any desperate parents would want to hear— that she could cure their son. That not only would he be healed from this illness, but he’d never be sick again. Anything, they had promised. We’ll give you anything, as long as you heal him. And Odette’s conditions were simple— she would heal Kai, as long as she could keep Kai. Immediately, his parents had agreed that his health, his life, was more important than their happiness and thus, a deal was struck.
Two nights later, with the light of a full moon shining through his bedroom window, Kai was bitten. Later in life, he’d hear from other werewolves that the bite was excruciating, but he doesn’t remember the pain, for there was always so much of it back then. What he remembers is his mother tucking him in that night, promising that he’d be okay soon. His father’s tearful gaze as he shut off the lights. Odette’s gentle fingers as they brushed through his hair. There’s a lapse in his memories then, and days later Odette is explaining to him all the aspects of his new life. Kai Borde is dead, she had told him in a gentle tone, sliding a newspaper towards him. He didn’t understand what it meant to see his name in the obituary section. Your name is Kai Leroux now, and you are a werewolf. They moved to Scotland shortly after he came to, for Odette was good friends with the alpha in Edinburgh.
Kai flourished under her watchful eye, and the support of his new siblings. He came to call Odette ‘Maman’, and shed any trace of his past life. He likes to think that his mother and father found happiness without him, which makes him feel less guilty for doing the same.
P E R S O N A L I T Y
First and foremost, Kai is loyal. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his loved ones, especially his pack. He’s very trusting and open with people, and has a tendency to form strong emotional bonds that aren’t always reciprocated. This often leads to him being let down by those he would consider to be his friends, though he’s more than willing to give people second, third, and even fourth chances to make amends. Odette calls it naive, foolish, but Kai sees nothing wrong with being kind.
Though he is generally friendly, it would be a mistake to assume that Kai is a pushover. He is tolerant of those who are unkind to him simply because he doesn’t think they’re worth stressing over, but he is fiercely protective of others around him, even if they aren’t his friends. It takes a lot for Kai to become truly angry, but once he reaches his tipping point, his temper is explosive. It takes him a while to come down from his bursts of ire, and oftentimes afterward he’ll be upset for days. This is especially true around the full moon, when Kai finds himself irritated by the simplest things. When he feels his mood worsening, he’ll try to escape back to his dormitory or into the forest— anywhere quiet where he can be alone.
Kai is very much a “live in the moment” type of person. He’s aware that he’s been given a second chance at life, and he doesn’t want to waste it dwelling over the past or what the future might hold for him. In this aspect he’s adopted a rather carefree attitude, one that sometimes does more harm than good. He often follows his gut feeling and operates on impulse, seldom pausing to think of what consequences may follow his actions, or how it may affect others. He sometimes hears the word ‘reckless’ thrown around in regards to him, and he’s apt to agree.
