Stop glorifying men, and listen to women
I had a 57 yearold man be my friend for 3 years. I was 23 at the time. I didnt think much of it. he seemed like the all rounder good uncle/dad like figure in our group of friends.
One day, he asked me to go with him to visit a ‘special cave’ that he only shows people who are special to him. I declined. It was 2 hours away from home to me and I dont drive. I was definitely not comfortable with spending my day with a 57 yearold man in unknown territory 2 hours away from home without a means to get home.
After that, he completely ghosted me.
None of my friends take this story seriously. It sounds like the plot of every serial killer storyline, or cliche horror film right?
Guy presents him as harmless, has great reputation in his community, invites young naive girl in a secluded trip away from her friends, family and safety support. Except in those films, she accepts and ends up dead, raped, tortured, and whatever else, dismembered?
Instead, I get to deal with the reality of family and friends not taking me seriously. Hell, a grown lady even had the audacity to say that maybe he ghosted me because he felt insulted that I rejected his kind offer.
Is this what society has come to? Enabling and facilitating events that would potentially lead to a gruesome outcome, and then act all shocked and surprised, with a ready to go basket of condolences when shit hits the fan? We wait, we ignore the signs, let our girls, ladies, and women become hurt and THEN we feel sad about it.
Not one person said to me:
you did the right thing.Even if you think you know people, dont go anywhere alone with them. No matter how long or close you think you know them.
Dont do anything youre uncomfortable with
that man has no right to withdraw his friendship just because you didnt do what he wanted you to. he wasnt a friend, hes a wolf in sheeps clothing
stay safe and happy. I support you
For those of you, who are parents, or know of female friends and family, please, do not take their safety loosely. NEVER shame them for doing things to protect themself. Do not wait until the worst happens and be devastated about it.
Do not leave older men around young women. Unless he’s her father. Even in some cases, that can be questionable. Sexual predators take advantage of that. Encourage women and young girls to be safe.
Don’t shame us for being safe
