Y’know, losing my faith in the common person.
If you have a legitimate health concern related to wearing masks, don’t wear a mask and try to limit your contact with others.
“I don’t like how they feel” is not a legitimate health concern.
“I don’t have asthma or any other breathing problems, but I feel like I can’t breathe” is not a legitimate health concern, it’s an inconvenience.
“It’s not a risk” — I don’t care what you think. It reduces my chance of getting it from you way more than it reduces your chance of getting it from me. I’m wearing one for your benefit. Please wear one for mine, whether you believe it or not. Please. This is an issue of compassion, respect, and decency.
Those who legitimately can’t safely wear masks for some reason know who they are, and those who are simply choosing to endanger everyone else also know who they are. Like — Like I don’t like death. In fact, I detest it. But for the first time in my life, I’m really struggling to feel bad. If you’re not wearing a mask, you are making the most irresponsible choice imaginable at a time like this. You may as well be driving drunk, high, and responding to a text.
All because you needed to eat in a restaurant right now. You couldn’t wait a few months. You couldn’t sit outside. You couldn’t get takeout. And you wouldn’t even put a piece of fucking cloth over your face when you spat your order all over the waiter who is only working there to pay rent while you get to work from home.
There are the people who won’t wear masks because they’re crazy Trumpies, and I mean, what can you do about them? Nothing really.
But it is infinitely baffling to me that anybody who seems generally sensible, generally average would just ignore the advice of the entire medical community when all that advice mandates of them is to put some fabric on their faces, wash their hands often, and not get too close to people who they aren’t sure (Read: certain) haven’t been exposed (or anyone if they can’t vouch with certainty for their own status).
This isn’t meant to be inflammatory, and I doubt anyone will even read this, but come on, you guys. It’s not that hard.
Please. For everyone’s sake. Because whether we like it or not, we’re all in this together, and we all have to deal with the consequences of each other’s irresponsible behaviors.
