Anyway, what have you been preoccupied with besides evangelizing? Have you been busy?

Wait, I think you're misunderstanding me. I let him borrow the third copy I'd ever bought. I have at least 9 or 10 more at home. Some of them are in mint condition; they're collectors items. /could talk for hours about icha icha collection/ 

Not especially. Considering Naruto is getting used to his new role as Hokage, things have been slow going. I've been able to take more walks, train more, and spend time with friends. What about you?

He laughed a bit, not really sure how to keep the conversation going. It had been a while since he had spoken to Kakashi like this… Actually, he couldn’t recall any time since they were Genin. 

"Hey, about that drink I "owe" you, did you wanna get it now? If you’re not busy, of course."

"Ah." Was his only way of saying your welcome. 

His expression seemed to grow somewhat devious when Raidou mentioned getting a drink. "Ah sure! I'm not busy. I'm always up for a drink." He answered. "Where to?" Kakashi had probably frequented at least every bar in Konoha at one point or another.

My immediate thought is that you’re just trying to get me off your back. But I guess if that’s what you want then it’s fine by me. If you’re sure that’s what you want. I’m not your mother after all, even though you might still need one.

Ah well then Kushina-san let me tell you; I do no think marriage or procreation is in my future. I'm not really interested in any of the women around the village. I appreciate you looking out for me but you really aren't that much older than me...certainly not old enough to be my mother...

Ah, yes always in good health. I try to eat a balanced meal.

And that’s also why I don’t have any! I’m not exactly the father type, and the idea of having children is pretty weird. But I guess kudos to anyone who does, it just won’t be our handsome genes being passed down to the next generation.

See, that’s why I had the smart idea of staying as a specialized jounin. I mean it’s not like I’ll probably be guarding another Hokage again, but at least I can take A-rank and be around most of our friends. Besides, your teams all seem close to each other—you still hang around with Gai and Kurenai, right? That hasn’t changed from when we were younger. 

[Frowning into his drink slightly, Genma shrugged at Kakashi’s last comment.] Yeah but, was ANBU really all that great for you?

I know, the poor village will have less handsome children because we've decided not to procreate. I guess the Hatake name dies with me. /takes a large gulp of his beer at the morose thought/

Ah, see I'd get bored with that. Guarding Hokages and what not...and I didn't really become a jounin-sensei because I thought I liked kids, but they kinda grew on me. And it was fun and easy; the kids are funny when they argue with each other. Yes I still visit with Gai, Kurenai, and Asuma which is nice but we don't get as much adult time as we'd like. We always have the kids around us. It'd just be nice to be away from that sometimes.

/thinks for a moment/ It was nice to be around others my age but...I guess not, when I really think about it. There was really no where for me to go; it was a glass ceiling for me.

Raidou was a little taken aback by Kakashi’s change of tone, but he didn’t mean any harm by the comment. “I’m not trying to say it is — I just don’t want to be branded as similar to Ebisu is all. I wasn’t saying anything about you.”

Kakashi chuckled. "I know you weren't saying anything about me. I guess I'm just defensive about the subject. I've had a teammate in the past tell me I should read a book on modesty." He shoved his hands in his pockets. "I also don't think anyone would label you like Ebisu. You're a nice guy." Truthfully Kakashi didn't know too much about Raidou

"I would like nothing more than to never be told I am anything like Ebisu. It’s not that I don’t like the guy but… he’s pretty tightly wound. And he’s a pervert."

Kakashi seemed to take the subject of perversion seriously. "There is nothing wrong with being a pervert, as long as you aren't overt about it. Sure I might read Icha Icha in public but I'm never ogling women on a daily basis."

Well thank goodness for that, I wouldn’t want to deal with any more of you running around the village. There’s already enough brats as it is! And your brats would definitely be the worst kind of brats. Not that mine would be any better though.

I can’t tell if you honestly can’t remember or find it that easy to shrug off Gai. [Holding up his hands in mock-exasperation, Genma sighed at the prospect of such an ability.] 

But yeah, we weren’t going to claim world’s best genin team but I’ll agree on the individual basis. I guess the ability to all work together now feels pretty good. Probably the best part of the job if I wanted to be sappy about it—which I don’t: I am an impenetrable fortress ;)

I don't know what you're talking about, my kids would be perfect angels. Your kids, on the other hand, would be the most irresponsible children this village has ever seen. /chuckles/ Don't procreate just to prove me wrong though. I'm not going to do it either.

Gai is like the annoying little brother I never had. Except he's older than me. /shrugs/

Pffft. Impenetrable fortress.../does his best to refrain from making dirty jokes/...whatever you say Genma. I wish I could go on more missions with people my age but since I've become a jounin-sensei my life has been revolved around the next generation. Shouldn't have left the ANBU; can't really complain.

It looks pretty worn. How long have you had it? Or rather… How often do you replace them?

I didn't force it on him, I just gently suggested he read it by handing him a copy.

/stares at copy/ I think this is the third one I bought. I still have the first one I bought. I just buy new copies once they're worn out. I do re-read them a lot, you know.

Kakashi, there was an Icha Icha novel in the jounin break room and I considered it may be yours. I also considered that it would be unlike you to leave an Icha Icha book behind, but if it is yours, perhaps I could put an end to any book-related sorrow of yours.

I let Raidou borrow one...maybe he forgot it? Nonetheless, thank you. If he's not going to read it, then I'll re-read it. I've been bored the past few days while walking around the village. Arigatou Hayate.

But didn’t Jiraiya-san take over from your work? Don’t be so modest Kakashi, for the rest of the world won’t be! Yeah well, at least it won’t be lost forever—maybe he’ll find someone else to pass it on down to. Or maybe it’s best that it is, I have no idea. S’not like senbon technique is the kind of thing people are desperate for you to teach them for the ages. 

Ahh! I can even agree that my team was terrible but at least I was present when I was supposed to be. Ebisu was always ogling some other genin and Gai was pretty much married to beating you. At least I was always there and trying, even if half the time I was arguing with Ebisu or convincing Gai that he could go another fifteen minutes without challenging you to something. I think we passed the chuunin exams through sheer luck. [He chuckled lightly at that, fond of such memories.]

I'll be as modest as I want, thank you very much. I will take minimal credit to Naruto's success and nothing more. And don't kid yourself, the chidori will die with me and with Sasuke. I don't plan on having children any time soon, or ever really. /takes a gulp of his beer/

/chuckles/ I remember Gai challenging me almost as if it were yesterday...but wait...maybe he did challenge me yesterday. He challenges me quite often. I've lost count of the score. Gai knows it by heart and could probably recall almost every challenge. And you might have been a subpar team, but you were wonderful individuals. Besides, we were young and stupid then; I'm not sure there really was a stand out team, just stand out individuals. Now we're old and somewhat less stupid. At least we make better team members.

"That’s… very true. I guess both of us could teach each other something then." He rubs his hand on his neck, smiling back. "Actually, I should just act more like a lot of jonin I grew up with. They’re all so much less serious. Except for Ebisu."

Kakashi suddenly deadpanned, his expression almost morose as he said, "Please, act like anyone else but Ebisu. We only need one Ebisu in the world." He cleared his throat, his tone lightening up as he continued, "I mean, unless being a closet pervert is your thing."

You and Gai are so similar….do you still challenge Naruto?

Of course! Just because Naruto-kun may outrank me as Hokage doesn’t mean he is not my friend. We started off as equals and teammates, so it would be disrespectful to think anything different of him as an adult. He has only proven to be more difficult competition than I expected, which I believe is a good thing!

I see I see...reminds me of when me and Gai were your age. He was challenging me at every moment.

"I’m not going to lie, I’ve heard of it, but you’ve definitely caught me off guard with that. But, don’t worry about it, okay? I should have realized; I’m a bit too serious at times."

"Nothing wrong with being serious. I could use a dose of it sometimes. I just can't bring myself to care too much. Life is too short to not joke a little." He smile lightly, the expression showing in his eyes.

"Oh, good." He held a hand to his chest and let a breath out. "You know, you should really work on the sarcasm a bit, Kakashi. Thank you, though! I’ll be sure to get to it when I can." He gave Kakashi a soft smile, still recovering slightly from Kakashi’s sarcasm.

Kakashi chuckled again. "I didn't realize how little we actually spoke. I thought everyone was used to my sick sense of humor." He replied.
