Stepping over a rock, you let out a small laugh to yourself, eyes on the floor. Your best friend, clad in her super hero suit turned to you, laughing as well “what?” She giggled and you lifted your head, “nothing” you muttered, biting your lip. She knew it wasn’t nothing, she could tell by the way your face was contorting that you were thinking very hard on something. Something that was silly enough to make you laugh.
You and the justice league where on a “super secret” mission - as you liked to call it -, luckily for you, you got paired with your best friend to search for information in a very abandoned and very destroyed building. Dust accumulated on every surface, lingering in the air through the sun shine from broken windows. You coughed a bit, trying to hold back a laugh before, “me when I have to fuck Superman, Batman and Red Hood to save Gotham-“ spat out from your mouth.
You could barely get it out, before you were laughing so hard, your bestfriend immediately slumping over and grabbing a nearby wall. “STOPPPPP!” She yelled, trying to muffle her laughter, but it only spurred on the more she heard you die of laughter. “Me when I have to suck all three dicks for Gotham- ‘oh no!!!’” She joked, causing you to die even harder.
You barely calmed down, before you heard a crackle in your ear pieces, “…uhh…ladies, your ear pieces are on” batman spoke, freezing you both in your tracks, the smile’s melting off of your faces. “Oh shit!” Your best friend laughed out, covering her mouth. You’d never recover from this.

Lori, Andrea, Maggie, Beth and carol were sitting around a campfire roasting corn and veggies with you. The group of women went silent, and when you looked up? All of them were just staring at you wide eyed. “Are you fucking insane?” Andrea whispered, her face cocked towards you and her mouth agape, “he’s like…super dirty…super red neck and super angry.” She shook her head in disgust and you only rolled your eyes. “I mean…it’s not a bad option….” Carol softly whispered, still sad over the loss of her daughter, but everyone was trying to help her feel better.
You rolled your eyes once again, placing your plate down on the ground “he’s loyal…” you started “extremely loyal, anytime somebody needs something, he’s always the first to volunteer to get it, he hunts for us, he’s not afraid of walkers or even humans, he- he got so angry at Dr Jenner on behalf of us, when all you guys could do is cry…” you swallowed your spit, “he’s gentle….his brother just makes him….mean, he doesn’t cry or complain or bitch…he just survives…” you finished, picking back up your fork, before dropping it again. “And, he has saved all of our lives- for god sake he almost died looking for soph-…” you stopped, turning your head back to the fire, “is that not a man….who makes you feel so feminine from how masculine he is?…”
Maggie pursed her lips, “she’s got a point….i mean he ain’t my type or nothing….but he’s done a lot for us…for daddy and for this farm…” the fire crackles, embers floating towards the night sky and Andrea suddenly laughs, “never realized how useless most of the men around me my entire life have been….”

It was bright and early In the morning, the sun was especially hot and the birds were incredibly loud. Your very heavy and very large compound bow was slung around your shoulders, you were currently making your way towards the forest.
“Hey…” but a voice stopped you. You turned around, Daryl was standing right in front of you with his lips pursed like he was gonna say something. His crossbow was dangling from his left hand, his eyes squinted because of the sun, his face was just as dirty as yesterday. “Hey.” You spoke back, licking over your lips. “I found this” he tosses something at you and you grab it midair. “Marlboro reds?” You giggle, shaking the sealed pack of cigarettes. You stare at them, taking off the seal and opening it up. You didn’t smoke before the apocalypse…you don’t got much to lose nowadays. By the time you looked up, Daryl was standing closer and…the tips of his ears were red.
“I’d…I’d…have you…” he mumbled out slowly, and you just blinked, “I’m sorry?” You giggled, but Daryl didn’t respond, just stood there with this constipated look on his face. “I-I have to go, D, I wanna hunt a big deer or something….for Hershel…” you turned around after that, clumsily walking down hill to get past the fence and to the forest.
You didn’t get much luck with deer, but you snagged a few rabbits and a couple of squirrels. You secured them tight on a rope and tied it around your waist, trying to ignore their innocent faces now stripped of life. When you heard a twig snap behind you, you flinched and turned around. “D? Oh my lord, you’ve scared the devil out of me,” you chuckled, facing him, “how’d you find- never mind.” You shut up when you seen your very clear and obvious foot prints in the mud.
“I’ll have sex with you.” He finally speaks and you just….”do what?” You felt your heart get lodged in your throat, your palms went sweaty and you couldn’t seem to stare at his face anymore. Daryl? He was the same. You heard it crying before you even seen it. A deer. Its bleats turned into soft grunts laced with pain. Blood spilled from its chest, a bolt just slightly off from its heart. Taking a cautious step towards it, you crouched down, your knees cracked and the dear panicked as best as it could. It was suffering. “Shhh…” you whispered, gloved palm rubbing over its matted fur. “S’alright…” your other hand reached for your blade, a large one with ridges and placed your hand that was once petting its fur, over its eyes. The dear started to calm, its legs coming to a halt. “Have mercy…” you mumbled, before swiftly stabbing it into its heart, ending its suffering. When you pulled the blade out, you wiped the blood on your pants before placing it back in its sheath.
“Tha’s Ma dear.” And you froze. You didn’t even hear anyone approaching, how could you be so clumsy. Lifting your head up, a man stood in-front of you, a stryker crossbow, similar to yours, was being pointed dead center at your forehead. You slowly raised your hands up to your temple. “It was suffering…” you muttered and the man just scoffed, “you missed its heart-“ “ain’t none of yer business.” He cut through, stance steady.
The bolts on the crossbow had green fletching, just like the one in the dear. “I ain’t no threat…” you spoke, slowly reaching over to pull the bolt out of its ribs, “just didn’t want it to suffer, tha’s all…” with a muddy hand, you offered him the bolt. He waited a moment, before slowly putting down his crossbow and grabbing the bolt from your palm like a stray cat.
That’s funny. You two almost looked alike. You both had shaggy hair, caked with mud and a bit of blood. You both were similar in height, wore black clothing and even sported the same pair of black work boots. The only difference between your crossbows were that the fletching of yours was red.
On the side of his hips were 3 rabbits, on the side of yours? 6 squirrels. You both took a moment to check eachother out, head cocking and eventually even circling each other. “Daryl.” He spoke, stepping towards the deer to grab it and drag it towards his direction. You gave him a nod and your name and he gave you a nod back. “You alone?” He muttered, and you nodded once again.
“Hunting…all I can do now…” you muttered, and he nodded his head up at you, eyes squinting like the sun was hurting him. “Ya…you want a rabbit?” He gruffed, pulling away from the dear and reaching for his side, “give you two squirrels for it.” With a deal, you traded game, your hands briefly touching. “Cool..” he nodded, then like it was nothing, hoisted the deer up and over his shoulder like it weighed 2 pounds.
“See you ‘round, squirrel girl” and with that, he just walked right past you.

You're weird. You've always been. You credit your survival from your weirdness and right now, it was at its max.
"I never thanked you for saving my life." you smiled, teeth on display. Daryl didn't move much, didn't even make a sound, just stared at you with a face that was trying to read yours. He was surrounded by his friends, just like you were. Two groups who formed an alliance to always protect and feed each other.
You didn’t blink, just smiled that weird smile you always did that made Daryl uncomfortable on deep emotional levels. “Right…” Rick drawled, eyes squinting from the Georgia sun waiting for Daryl to say something. “Can yall just like shake hands or something?” He added, hands on his belt loops. “Thats a Great idea!” You gasped, extending a hand out almost cartoonish.
Daryl finally made a sound, it was grunt. It came from his throat and when it left, it was airy. Lifting his muddy hands up to his face, he slowly and deliberately sucked over each digit, making sure to keep eye contact with you. You didn’t blink, didn’t flinch, just kept smiling and watching staring. Finally, he smacked his hands into yours, making sure to rub his wet fingers into your palm. “Yer welcome.” He gruffed out, pulling his hand away.
Without a second thought, you brought your palm to your mouth and lolled your tongue out, licking a stripe from your wrist to the tip of your finger. “Yum!” You squealed, “a dream!” And simply turned around, “let’s go!” You called, grabbing your weapon and walking through the line your group had split for you.

As your group filtered after you, deafening out the mutters coming from ricks group, Daryl just stood there. His brain had short circuited.
