It’s been too long since I drew a puppy, so here’s a casual paint of a commander and his dog. Baby jackal is still small enough to fit in a backpack.

Minimum wage: $7.25
$7.25 x 40 hour full time work week: $290
$290 x 4 weeks per month: $1,160
In every Southern state (didn’t have time to look at the rest of the country) you can find some sort of studio apartment for around $500 per month, sometimes less than that. Why bother lying about something so easily disproven?
Because Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t going to fact check him, and they’ll ignore any contrary evidence that’s presented to them anyways.
Things like this really tick me off and It’s not political or anything but it’s the fact that you think all that money is there. Here’s what I mean;
That weekly check comes to, according to you, 290. Most places DO NOT pay for your half hour lunch that is required by law. So your beginning number was wrong. $7.25 x 7.5 hours a day x 5 days a week only gets you $271.88. Most people in America get paid bi-weekly, so let’s double it to get the budget. $543.75. That’s GROSS, not NET. Out of that comes anywhere between 10% and 15% taxes depending on state so we’ll low ball it at 10%. Automatically down to $489.38 a pay check. Now health insurance. Usually anywhere from 70-100 a pay check for the cheapest plans. Again, we’ll low ball and go $70. So now we have $419.39 a paycheck. x 2 = $839.
Eight hundred thirty nine dollars. A MONTH.
But again, you seem to think that’s fair. So let’s proceed. You say rent is $500? Okay. This person now has $339 left to buy groceries for the whole month, pay utilities, car payment, car insurance, and gas money to get to work.
Those are the bare needs. You have to eat. You have to pay for heat, water, garbage removal, gas and or electricity because apartments do not always include things and rarely all of the above. Most cities in America do not have public transportation. Mine doesn’t despite the fact that our population is over 15,000 people, not counting a taxi. If you have a car, you have to pay that. If you have a car, legally you have to have car insurance. You have to pay that. You have to have gas in that car to get to work to make that money.
Now if you can tell me you can get all of that out of $339 you’re lying.
You are so focused on rent that you aren’t thinking about everything else people have to pay for. Rent was an example. This is a breakdown of the budget you gave me and it’s not possible to live off that in 2017 America.
And BECAUSE this person makes over $800 a month, they probably won’t qualify for financial aid or food stamps. $800 is the line in my state where they won’t help you. No food stamps, financial aid, or government housing if you make more than $800 a month.
Why does it bother you that people deserve to live above the poverty line?
To be fair though, a car is a luxury. Personally, I’m not a fan of these posts since I’m quite literally scraping the barrel but there are things I do to save my nickels and dimes.
I was about to sell my vehicle being in the financial situation I was in since again, it’s a luxury, not a need. And this is coming from someone where public transit is basically non-existent where I live (it comes a couple times a day and no where near where I work).
So I look elsewhere to crunch numbers. Buying store-brand products instead of name-brand, limiting my take-out eating expenses to maybe once a week if that (and yes that includes even getting a coffee at the drive-thru in the mornings, or a snack here and there). I only sometimes treat myself to one thing on Friday’s. It’s saved me anywhere from $150-300/mo.
North Americans throw out roughly 40% of the food they buy and I know very well I was throwing close to that out as well. That’s a lot of money. I started to buy groceries in smaller amounts but having to go more frequently. Fortunately, I have a small grocer nearby so it works. I also opt to buy more frozen fruits and veggies as opposed to fresh (and studies show they’re equally as healthy).
I also try to purchase household items/non-perishables when they’re on sale. Even if you spend a little more that shopping trip, you won’t need to buy that items again in a week, two weeks, three, etc.
Throw items you don’t need on online “garage sale” apps/websites. Most towns and cities have some local buy/sell/trade Facebook groups, Craigslist, Varage Sale, etc.
Downgrade your mobile phone, Internet, cable, landline, whatever plans. Obviously, a bunch of these can be difficult to downgrade when you’re on a contract but it’s something to look at. I mean, I removed some dumb features I didn’t even realize I was paying for on my mobile phone that I never used. You could probably even cut data down some if you’re paying for data usage since lots of places nowadays have free WiFi.
In addition, cancel unnecessary subscriptions. So what if you have to listen to an advertisement on Spotify every 5 or 6 songs. It’s a minor inconvenience that can save you $10/mo. Maybe you have a Dollar Shave Club subscription. You can downgrade your account to get one pack of razors once every two months instead of one. Look at alternative gym memberships that are less costly.
TL;DR: There are so many ways to cut spending and save money to afford the highly important expenses like rent and food. Of course, if you’ve exhausted all these options and then some and still cannot afford the important expenses, well then I can certainly understand and sympathize to that.

I’m a bit late to the mordremvari party, but I just replayed HoT and had the terrible itch to draw a what-if scenario. Also I just love designing monsters!
Cesaria had a couple of really close calls in the deeper reaches of the jungle and without the help of his squadmates, one of them might’ve pushed him over the edge. Had that happened, he’d eventually turn up again a lot taller and looking like this after taking a bath in a blighting pod.

I recently learned that to understand the GW2 story to its fullest, you need to do the raids as there are some interesting side plots that may answer questions that were left unanswered by the Living Story itself. I’m really upset by their decision to do this since the raids are incredibly restrictive and overall a clusterfuck of wrong-doing. I also read there was some mention of a raid story, similar to the dungeon story. I don’t know if this was from an Anet employee or just a fan but I would totally be behind this assuming you could do it with more casual players that cannot commit the time it takes for raids or people that don’t want to conform to the meta because they enjoy being out of the restrictive corner that the meta forces people into.
TL:DR Raid stories? Yes! As long as it’s accessible and doable by all forms of players!
I’ve heard a lot of arguments recently about this, and almost all of them are misguided and made by people who have not actually raided.
As someone who’s seen all that raiding has to offer so far (and is also a big fan of the amount of storytelling in this game), there is only the barest amount of story/lore available to give raiders a setting and a reason for actually being there beyond “Kill Big Boss In Increasingly Inventive Ways, Obtain Loot”. Everything is just side-stuff to the main, current storyline(s) of the game. You do not need to know raiding stories to understand anything about the actual GW2 story. Saying that you need to raid to understand GW2 story to the fullest is like saying you need to do every single personal story branch with multiple characters, that you’d need to have been here from Living World Season 1, that you have scoured the world map and talked to every single minor NPC, done every event possible. It’s a ridiculous assumption and simply untrue. People will never know or be able to access absolutely everything, and that’s okay.
Anything seen in the previous raid (Forsaken Thicket) that pertained to Living World Season 3 (and there was barely anything) was recapped by an NPC for those who didn’t raid at all. Any text tidbits and the scenery itself can be viewed by those offering to open completed instances for people (which is actually how I met one of my raid leaders - she advertised for a completed instance and I went poking around in it).
The new raid closes the story of a character back from Guild Wars 1, who everyone thought was as good as dead anyway. Anything of value to non-raiders exists on YouTube, where people have already recorded the single cutscene that shows the most important piece from it. There are very few interactable objects, and they can be shown by someone opening a completed instance for anyone who wants to look around badly enough.
Rest assured, the day they put super important story in raids is the day I push for a story-mode for people who don’t have the capacity to do raids in their current setup. Until then, I don’t want already limited developer time to be taken away to create a toned-down version of the wing(s) that would only be done once and then never again, for the barest hint of story.
As an end-note, raids are meant to be the toughest form of PvE content available to us. People tend to take the easiest route through the challenging content and run meta-builds because they are calculated as the most optimal. But they are not the only viable options, and enrage timers are generally incredibly forgiving once people have the mechanics down. One must also understand that while one has the right to play how one wants practically anywhere, including in raids, others have the right to play how THEY want and ask for people that play similarly to them. There is nothing stopping people from getting a group of non-meta folks together and throwing themselves at the bosses.
While I certainly value your opinion on the matter, I think you may have derailed the initial topic with your views on the meta.
To go back on topic, I totally understand not wanting to have developers “waste” time on something like this but I don’t feel like it would take too much effort to do when they have most things already implemented. It would just be a scaling/loot rework which I feel would be a fast approach. I’m no programmer, developer or what have you but it doesn’t seem like it would take long when almost all other elements are done.
I am very story driven and again, while I respect your opinion on the side plots not being very important to the story, I have to disagree. I find that those side plots can be very interesting. It could be the amateur writer in me but to me it is important. Yes, I could go watch them on YouTube or whatever but I actually like to engage in the story with my own personal character. I am also an avid GW1 fan and really enjoyed its story far more than GW2′s so having some GW1 story back in GW2′s would be exciting for me. Thus making a story instance of a raid even more appealing to me now.
Without beating the dead horse, I still stand on my initial post in that raid wings with an optional story mode would be great for players with similar mind sets as me.
“ I’m really upset by their decision to do this since the raids are incredibly restrictive “
“ - assuming you could do it with more casual players that cannot commit the time it takes for raids or people that don’t want to conform to the meta because they enjoy being out of the restrictive corner that the meta forces people into. “
The response on the meta was from your comments on the initial topic. It is not derailing.
The fact is that the vast majority of raid wipes and failures will occur from lack of following through with mechanics, rather than forcing a meta. A toned down version for story-mode would, what, lessen or eliminate those mechanics? Get rid of the enrage timer? Meaning you’re left with something to hit until it’s dead, and only that. No degree of difficulty. It would be easier than some living world bosses.
That’s not what raiding in GW2 is meant to be. It should not ever be. Only if they want to make raiding a main storytelling mechanic (copying WoW, as opposed to open world/living story style) should there be a toned down story-mode. It is not one. There is barely any story, and certainly not enough to warrant a husk of a story-mode. That is the waste I am talking about.
“ Raids are 10-player, instanced, elite dungeon content that’s a challenge unlike anything we’ve previously released in Guild Wars 2. These raids are meant to put you and your teammates to the test and challenge you to grow your skills as Guild Wars 2 players. Raids are our answer to what skilled PvE players have to look forward to at endgame—the ultimate test to overcome and defeat. “
I know a guy who can only raid for a couple of hours, once or twice a week. He still makes it work. I know several guild groups that struggle with mechanics - but they continue to try because the challenge is the reason they’re there in the first place. Not whatever mythical, super-detailed storyline people seem to think is hidden behind the raid portals.
Everything you could ever want for story in current raids can be found by finding someone who already has the completed instance, or looking it up. Some people don’t want to learn how to raid for it, and they don’t have to. I have taken guildies who want to explore but don’t want to raid inside the instances, myself.
The reason raiding exists is as a place for players to challenge themselves, learning new encounters with 9 other people and formulating ways to beat everything that comes at them. A story mode in their current state defeats the entire purpose of creating raids instead of more dungeons.
I’m all for more dungeons, more casual-friendly content. Dungeons are great, including the story modes that you have to unlock to do the actual explorable modes.
I’m not for people who think that they can demand to have ANet disregard their intended purpose with raids. If people start demanding for story modes for minuscule amounts of lore, future important story may become locked away behind raids, which will have to be tuned to be less challenging. And then no one will be happy as the cycle repeats.
I’m really not interested in what you, your friends, or your friends of friends can or cannot do in the raiding environment and I certainly don’t mean to sound rude from saying that. At the end of the day, if you don’t like the idea or think it’s silly, or just want to persuade me otherwise, I would just comment on something else and let like-minded people enjoy an idea that may or may not transpire in the future. I know how much time I can dedicate to the game and it’s not much with my current real life chain of events. I’ve never really been that interested in complex boss fights that take days, weeks or months to perfect. I ultimately care about how the story progresses. Perhaps it’s why I often play on easier difficulties in other RPG games. The fact of the matter is, I simply wish that there would be a story for the raids, similar to how the story mode works on dungeons. I don’t believe it will drain the company’s time or resources since I feel like it is a small change. Heck, there shouldn’t even be an argument since I certainly wouldn’t expect loot from something that would be easy to get through. It really just makes the lives of everyone easier, in my opinion. You don’t have “dead weight” in your groups that don’t really want to raid or simply do not have as strong of a skill-set for them, and instead have more experienced players for those groups. Then you have more casual players that just want to go in for the story and general experience of the bosses and what not. I just don’t see how it really negatively effects anyone with the minor exception of time and resources being wasted on small side-plots that, to some, don’t have much meaning. Fair point but a small one from the numerous positives I see.
I recently learned that to understand the GW2 story to its fullest, you need to do the raids as there are some interesting side plots that may answer questions that were left unanswered by the Living Story itself.
