Kamera...ok?
If you are reading this, we are friends. And if you know me, you probably know that I've been a part of the Osaka bonvivant community for twenty years. In that time, I've played in a rock band, done stand-up, and presented at Pecha Kucha Nishinomiya on the joys of living. But in all this time, I've sought to do what my father set out to do befor me: bring community together in an active fashion. He did it with Stars of the Future. I'm doing it with Kameraoke
The Ricky Bobby types who don't know what to do with their hands may ask, what's in it for me?
For those who like walking, there is that. For the photographers, your ¥300 submission for each photo you send will be entered in the voting exhibition on 3/29, and you get to take home your print at the event. (Not after, unless you DM me). Photographers MAY also win a prize on the night, chosen by the public.

I believe that collaboration, be it music jams, comedy improv, or photowalks, have always been an experience of joyful discovery. Showing up has taught me that success is all about being comfortable with your shortcomings. Done is better than perfect.
We set out for one thing, but we uncover more by simply being out, and recognising others for the mission we share.

We believe art should be shared, that themes are open to interpretation, and that everyone who comes to a gallery event should feel like they have some purpose to being there. For that reason, we started Kameraoke as a community art event. Now we are bringing it back, and including photowalks. Our first photowalk is this Sunday, March 15, 2026. It begins at 14:00 at Abeno Hoop in Tennoji. The check point will be at Shinsekai Kushikatsu Ittoku (いっとく) Annex. The end point will be Absinthe Underground. Submissions should be sent to https://www.donmag.org/deadlines-events/kameroke Prints made from submissions can only be picked up at Absinthe Underground on March 29.
People wonder what the end result of a Kameraoke hunt for themes looks like. This was the last exhibit from 2015. Thanks to photographer Dave Dawang for capturing the whirlwind frenzy of photo fans at Pinebrooklyn, Osaka. The next event will be held March 29, 2026(!) at Absinthe Underground. Photowalks are March 15 and March 20. Deadline for submissions is March 21st.
Don Magazine Presents...
The resurrection of the community art event, Kameraoke. For ten years, and ending in 2016, this photo event was created to help a community of photographers assemble under one banner: an event that brought every one together for a night when photos could bridge a communication gap. In this event at the intersection of presenting and viewing, everyone in attendance was engaged with a concept that asks you to be part of a conversation about how themes are interpreted.
This time around, Don Magazine has helped us reach a new community, and facilitate the returning of prints to the photographers at the end of the event. They have set up the submission link so that you can choose how many photos to submit and how to label them. Kameraoke News 2026:
Kameraoke is now a photo walk. Been a quick 10 years since we've done the last one. This March, it will be time once again to see if the community is up for another photo event. And photo walk, and photos prints. Don't worry, we still got prizes to give away. Kameraoke 3/15, 3/20, 3/21, 3/29 are the dates to watch out for. Something more visual explaining everything is coming.

Hey all,
Edward and Danyk here to tell you that Kamereaoke 2016 was another amazing success made possible by those that served and supported the community of photo hunters that shared all that is human-, machine-, nature- and home-made. Special thanks to Kansai Scene for promoting this event and Mojoprint for the flyers and postcards. Very special thanks as well to our caterers, Kalakas, and Gekka, the clothing company that made our t-shirts and raised money and awareness for Ashinaga, a children’s charity. The warmest of hugs and snug tshirts go to all our volunteers who helped throughout the day with the set-up and take-down of the photos. And now to congratulate the winners! Human Made was won by Megumi Ito for her flowers on the train tracks to Auchwitz. Machine Made was won by Merica Noel for her shot of the gate made of speakers.
Nature Made was won by Kyounosuke Natori for the picture of the stork in the green. Home Made was won by Mark McClure for his photo of a plant growing out of a coke can. From start to finish, the tenth Kameraoke was considerably less stress than previous years because of the fantastic support from everyone involved that help to make this community photo event one-of-a-kind and fun for all. Thanks for helping us break even. Now for some much needed rest and relaxation!
