My beloved has been justifiably nervous about their looming breast reduction. They’ve never had a surgery before, so it’s kinda scary and unknown. Luckily almost everyone they’ve talked to has told them what an incredible life improving surgery it was for them.

Except.

They were getting a haircut and told the hair stylist about their upcoming untittening and the woman said, “Oh, I had one. I really liked it, but I did lose a nipple.”

My beloved was, justifiably, horrified.

“Yeah, you have to leave the bandages on for a week and when mine came off my nipple went with it. Apparently it just died.”

My beloved came home to tell me this and I was also horrified. “Did she sue them? That’s. That’s not normal!”

“Her dad kept telling her to, but no. But she did say she still didn’t regret it.”

The unsettling lost nipple haunted both of us until my beloved had another consult with their surgeon. When they relayed the story the surgeon looked both simultaneously horrified and furious and just said, “I have never lost a nipple! That’s. That’s not normal.”

This is going to be hard for a lot of people to hear but if you want to make your spaces safer for disabled people, then you need to stop assuming malice from every poorly worded post.

A lot of neurodivergencies and disabilities cause people to ramble, lose their train of thought very easily, go on tangents, have disordered thinking, etc. We can get words and names mixed up very easily, lose words entirely, struggle to put our thoughts into actual words that make sense to people, and lose track of conversations. Whether it's from ADHD, psychosis, brain fog, brain damage, or any other condition, thinking and verbalizing ourselves can be really fucking hard.

This isn't malicious. We aren't doing it on purpose to hurt or upset people, and we aren't ignorant about the topic just because we get mixed up. We deserve to have voices, even if we don't always make sense to other people.

gonna be real asf and morbid here: currently in the USA from my perspective as a black American, in the south they are creating worse voting protection for black voters in Louisiana iirc (jim crow shit essentially) black girls (in the UK too) keep going missing, there is a black femicide. black teens and folks are being murdered and essentially lynched. and their deaths in vain and lost to time because our skin and features don't match the white American. things are scary here.

I found out today that there was a (thankfully very ill-fated) attempt to have the entire Wikipedia article on discrimination against transgender men deleted. At first I thought the perpetrator was yet another bargain bin transphobe/TERF act of disruption but apparently not so, she is a trans woman. The user in question had been disputing the use of transandrophobia in the article as being inappropriate, but as other editors pointed out, the way in which it was used was as to be expected (basically saying “hey this term is being used commonly right now in places to describe this phenomena”). When attempts to get the article edited to remove any mention of the term failed, this user instead decided to just nominate the whole article for deletion instead. She even went as far as to say “you will never be a man” to the editors disputing this, though it was quickly deleted. It’s the actions of only a single person, but I find this indicative of how the chronic devaluing and othering of transmasculine people and voices in faux-transfeminist spaces leads to action basically indistinguishable from cis transphobes. Resorting to attempted vandalism of an online resource and blatant transphobia is a symptom of this trend that deserves absolutely no patience at this point.
