Quick “About”: My name is Red; I’m cool with any pronouns but particularly enjoy he/him, they/them, ne/nem and fuck/fucker; I’m white and Jewish; I live in America; and I speak English and can read and (passably but not very well) converse a bit en Español. I’m nonbinary & transmasc, aro but emphatically not ace, and bi. I like Transformers. This is a personal blog and I’ll post whatever I want here - and a lot of that will be a mix of fandom shit and politics because I can’t be fucked separating the two. I like attention and I’m not shy about it. 

I’m an adult with adult interests. Minors and those who don’t want to see that shit, please blacklist the #lemon tag.

I mostly post about my OCs and general stuff now. But I used to be a mainly Transformers blog. Still, this is my “reblog everything 10000 times per day” blog more than it’s anything else. Catchall.

Don’t softblock me, just block me. I do not take it personally and I don’t know when I’ve been softblocked. I like to block people for “basically nothing” and it means very little to me. You can also unfollow me at any time. I don’t pay attention to my following list.

I hit the post limit probably once a week at minimum. I will flood your dash if you let me.

I have notifications for likes and reblogs without tags/comments turned off. I do not pay attention to who is or is not following me. If you say anything to me or on my posts I might come say something back. Otherwise I won’t likely see it at all.  

I do not care for gossip. Don’t talk shit to me about other people. I don’t as a rule publish drama about other people sent to me. That said: I love drama and I love arguments. Trolls get baited, backsassed and given exactly as good as they give me. I will not be part of your pointless wank but I will mine it for entertainment if you include me in it.I don’t air bullshit with racial epithets not aimed at me and I don’t air bullshit aimed at other people but I looooveeee bullshit about me. Thanks for the entertainment in advance. Also this is a challenge.

Under the cut, my General Fandom Interaction and Use guidelines! 

TLDR: i am just some guy. I want to see Transformers fanstuff and I make Transformers fanart and fanfics and podfics, but I’m still just some loser. Don’t treat me like I’m special, I don’t really like it. You can use any of my headcanons, meta, etc, for whatever you want, you can remix my fics or use them for whatever you like, you can do whatever you want with any of my fanart or other fanworks. I don’t care. I do want to see it so I want you to tell me but it’s all free for everyone, have fun and go make something cool. 

All meta is up for grabs. This is an all you can eat buffet and my headcanons are the food. Take home what you like, leave what you don’t, tag me in your own creations, and generally just Have Fun.

The fandom I want to be part of is a community, not a popularity contest. As much as I like feeling important, I don’t want to be a “big name fan” and I don’t have any interest in being something any more special than one voice of many here. I’m not a “content creator”, i’m some dipshit sitting on the floor typing about bullshit. Don’t put me on a pedestal, please. I’ll do the same for you. Life is more fun when you’re equals with the people doing stuff you like, anyway.

Reblogging and adding to my fandom posts with more fandom stuff is heartily encouraged. I like to see that stuff.

This doubles as a personal blog. Reblogging politics or personal stuff with fandom additions bothers me, because I like to treat real-life stuff with more sensitivity than fandom stuff. Sometimes I’ll block you if you do this too often, but only if it becomes a pattern and also you’re acting in ways I find actively disrespectful. Or I might not. Roulette rules, it really depends on what mood I’m in when I see it. 

Comments in general are always welcome. Constructive criticism specifically is not necessarily always welcome and not always useful. If you want to offer concrit, please ask first.

If you want to do something transformative with my fanworks (podfic one of my fics, remix one of my fics, photobash one of my drawings, translate something I’ve written, etc)  go for it. But please do tell me you’re doing it. I wanna see it, i wanna see that so bad please please this is a bucket list item

My ships have no bearing on your ships. I might ship your ships and I might not. That means nothing about either of us. It doesn’t invalidate your ships. It doesn’t make them “boring” in an objective way (just not appealing to me, personally). It doesn’t make them “bad” by any means. I will admit to occasional bouts of haterism but they’re pretty much just about me not finding anything I personally find interesting in a given dynamic, and nothing more substantial than that. I will not pass judgement on you over your ships. I ask the same courtesy. If you cannot abide by this, I'll block you.

So we all talk about being in fandoms for things that are charmingly bad, and being able to acknowledge that they’re charmingly bad. But of course some people are in fandoms for things that are Actually Amazing. There are people out there who write fanfiction for The Best Science Fiction Novel Of The Twentieth Century. Or who draw fanart exclusively of The Best Movie of All Time. And there are even more people who are in fandoms for things that are Actually Pretty Good, which is not quite amazing but is closer to it than to Charmingly Bad.

And sometimes, you have a string of fandoms that are Actually Pretty Good. And the danger of this—the very great danger—is that when you have a string of Actually Pretty Good and even Actually Amazing obsessions, you start to believe that maybe you have taste. Perhaps you are now immune to the indignities of losing it over something mostly bad.

And then it is shattering to discover that no, bad things can still stick a fork in your brain. 😔

So I understand why the “transformative fandom gathers around things that are not good because there being a problem makes people desire to fix it” model is popular. I even agree that it’s accurate in many if not most cases. However it is not what this post is about. Plenty of people do transformative and creative fandom activities for things that are very, very good. Simplified models do not encompass everything.

And frankly, it’s starting to really get on my nerves when people read “I think this thing is good. I wouldn’t change a thing about it and frankly I don’t even think there should be more canon added to it, but I am still going to write thousands of words of fic, make a cosplay, and draw fanart” and then completely misunderstand and respond with “yes I agree—I like things that are good too. But I never feel the transformative/creative fandom instinct for them because they are too good.”

Some people do not feel it. Other people do. Stop misreading me to avoid having to adjust your mental model of how fandom works.

one of the ways a Canon work can be fandom bait is by missing something that fans want to fix, i.e. "it's bad", but i think this is only one way out of multiple that something can be fandom bait.

compelling worldbuilding (invites interaction with the setting)

interesting gimmick (see: daemons, drift compatibility. subcategory of compelling worldbuilding)

shipping bait (duh)

original character bait (in-universe categories/factions and design elements that make it fun for people to create their own characters)

compelling narrative (invites interaction and tweaks to the storyline: AUs and fixits and so on)

basically anything that invites interaction and recombination. but fandom also has a sort of multiplying effect: the larger the interactive audience of fandom is, the more likely it is to generate ideas and works that draw in more participants. so:

network effect (the larger the established fandom, the more likely it has subfandoms and infrastructure that appeals to niche audiences)
